980 also said Fassel and Mariucci were done deal so take that for what it's worth.
Anyhow, my personal top notch Gruden source has now gone from Gruden's "not interested" to he "obviously would like to get back into coaching, just wants to make sure it's the right fit wherever he goes" Again, I'd like for Gruden to bring Bruce Allen with him.
I would be good with this deal IF we could get a decent GM in with him. I'm good with Bruce, AND when Dan askes me, I'll tell him so! Either way it will be an upgrade as JZ is just......over his head |

And we lost to Seattle in 2007/2008
We lost the play off game to Tampa in 1999. I know that has nothing to do with Chucky. My arguement was based off the regular season. |

Oh. I see what you did there... I said this in a previous thread, but if the Chiefs win on Sunday, Zorn and Sherman Smith will be out, Sherm Lewis will be O-Coord and someone in house (Gray or Danny Smith are the 2 names linked) will be interim coach. I don't see them bringing an outside guy in until after the season's done. |

Snyder is going to be like "Uh oh. I wasn't expecting this" |

The chances of that happening are slim to none. Short of winning the superbowl, i cant see him giving the job to Smith or Gray. I actually hope its Gray. He certainly deserves the shot to be HC and it would look great on his resume. Maybe he'll finally get a real HC job after having 9 games of HC experience instead of just being the #1 guy on the annual rooney rule rotation. |

I've always liked D. Smith & wondered if he had head coach potential. He might be just what the team needs (along w/young, talented O linemen, wr's, and LBs)! |

I agree it would be crazy. I just don't see it happening. Basically for that to happen Zorn would get fired and with Smiths planning the team would have to start winning games. I still think we are disfunctional. WR's can't seperate from a wet paper bag, Portis is not using his vision he has used in the past, the O-line is now broken and we are using second stringers on the O-line...you know the ones who only had to play against second rate players in preseason. I just don't see any major changes unless we bring in new healthier O-lineman or change the scheme, and changing the scheme might not work at all. I just threw that out there cause I get the feeling Zorn has Buges doing something different with the O-line. |
Re: Sources: Gruden the front runner
I have tickets for Sundays game and I don't even want to make the drive down from Jersey.

The irony of course is that both Gray and Smith are Gregg Williams' disciples. But no, I don't expect that either would make a huge difference. But what I've found interesting is that for weeks we've heard players saying it's not the coaches' fault, we need to execute, play smarter, etc. But in all my years of hearing players say that usually either the coach is already gone and they've said it, or they say it and then go out and do it. These players are saying it and not really doing anything about it. It's almost like "yeah well we should be...but we won't" Maybe one of these guys will change that mindset? |

I don't put too much weight into what players say under most any circumstance, unless they say something stupid or inappropriate. Otherwise, players are politicians for their teams when before a mic. It's not like they're going to say, man, Zorn is sorry. I think Smith would be a logical follow up to Zorn; the fiery coach replacing the nice coach. And sometimes a change in the workplace is enough simply to kick people in the ass & let them know they're being evaluated, no matter who takes over. |

The execution errors really boil down to procedure penalties on offense, and shoddy tackling on defense. The tackling is something we specifically approached lightly in the offseason and preseason, seemingly in exchange for having the players healthy later on. That seems more like a give-take tradeoff to me. The offensive procedure penalties are about 75% attributable to offensive line turnover and 25% attributable to sideline disorganization. The only thing the coaches can actually fix at this point is the sideline disorganization. But that won't fix a majority of the execution issues. That just has more to do with the natural fluctuations of the game of football and the subsequent deficits in talent caused. All assumptions made in this post are those of the authors' alone, and are not attributable to any palm reading that may or may not have occured this weekend. |

Name one interim head coach who had a winning record in the season that he took over. |

Ok, since the FA era, not named Mike Singletary, and actually made the playoffs. :) Wise ass. My point is that it hasn't been done, while it is not entirely impossible it is highly improbable. |
