So what's the secret to making good fries on the grill?

I've got burgers, steaks, pork, etc. down pretty good. But when I try to accompany it with fries, the fries just don't come out right.
Just cut up some potato's (with skin on) put them in the oven on a cookie sheet or 2 and cook em' until brown. Makes damn good......Healthy fries. Try sprinkling some spice of one kind or another to enhance.
Safety Tip: Pam the cookie sheet or....something or the cleanup is...heinous
I found that seasoning them and wrapping them in tin foil is actually pretty good. The fries are not very crunchy though but still good
Well that's what I do, basically. I cut up the potatoes, season them a bit, sprinkle some olive oil, wrap them in tin foil, and put them on the grill at high heat. Rotating occasionally.

But they either come out really mushy or burnt.

I cut my potatoes up and put them in a grill basket, no foil, at about 350 degrees. Sometimes I use olive oil, sometimes butter. I season them afterwards. That's worked for me.

......Works great for fresh veggies as well!

I grill a lot...and many different things and I wouldn't try fries. In foil they'll steam more than anything and straight on they burn before they cook through. A basket might keep them from burning but why not just do them the old fashion way?

Sweet potato fries, however, come out great for me on the grill

Cooking over a fire is about as old-fashioned as you can get. Lol! I get what you're saying. I don't cook the potatoes on the grill unless I'm also cooking meat. Call me cheap, but if I don't have to use multiple heat sources then I'd prefer using just one. Seems to work okay.

I mean they're not really fries if they aren't fried.
