Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
I would sign Fred Davis to a 2 year deal that would pay him $1 mill this year and if he's healthy it will pay him $4.5~$5.75 mill in year 2. But if he isn't healthy, the 2nd year is voidable and we can cut him.
Also theres so many TEs in this draft that are 5 madden points better/worse than Fred Davis. :) But seriously there really are a lot of TEs in this draft that can be better or just as effective as Fred was last year in this offense. |
I would say that at this point the fact that he hasn't signed is a sign he isn't fully on board with staying. Certainly he knows the market for his services, and what the Skins can put on paper. The only mitigating info is if he and the Skins have to wait for a Jun 1st cut to free up cap space.
I am pretty sure that the June 1st cut date is no longer significant. Under the current rules, you can cut a player pre- June 1st and designate them a June 1st cut. The rules were changed b/c, formerly, players cut June 1st typically had already lost out on the big money of early free agency. |

My understanding is that you can cut and designate a June 1st, but the salary cap space isn't freed up until the Jun 1st date. So that even if we cut someone early, we can't take advantage of any increase in cap space until Jun 1st. The designation is for the player's sake like you said, but the team still has to wait to use any freed space. |

I agree with your second point. FDavis could be a top 10 TE, but he hasn't displayed the consistency that would make him invaluable yet. |

Right now other people are saying 2.5 as opposed to 1 mill; I'm 1.5 mill off from what the crowd thinks, but Fred isn't healthy and there is no guarantee he'll be healthy by training camp or for the whole season. I think a million is a great amount. Fred would/should sign it because he knows that A) Washington is where he'll thrive B) he isn't that healthy C) no one really wants him D) he'll get $1 million guaranteed if he isn't healthy/sucks |
If we sign F. Davis great but if we don't I could care less. He & his agent is dragging this out way to long.
I prefer not to have people on our team with the attitude that he seems to possess. Grow up, stay out of the clubs & invest your time in your craft. Davis is the prime example of a player who will be broke shortly after being out of the NFL for a few years. |

Redskins free-agent TE Fred Davis is scheduled to visit Bills on Wednesday. Jets and Redskins also interested. good luck with those teams Freddy |

And considering he's coming off an injury I don't see why either of them would give him a big money deal anyways, so he'd essentially be saying F the Redskins. Either that or he's using them as leverage in negotiations with us. If I were the Redskins though, I'd be asking him if he'd rather be playing with an unknown qb with the Bills, or whatever cluster**** will be starting at qb for the Jets, vs. playing with RG3. There's no way he thinks that either of those options are better than RG3. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
I think Fred Davis has the potential to be a top 5 or even top 3 TE in this league. However, if he and his agent want to drag this out, possibly going to Buffalo nor the Jets...let him walk. Good luck with your career in those places. We are building something special here , if he is unwilling to stay...peace out. We basically won the division without him. This is more than just a team we are building, we are building a culture. Why would anyone choose to go to Buffalo or the sideshow Jets Oliver playing for a Super Bowl winning coach and with a stud QB AND leader in RG3? I'd rather ride with a dude like Paulsen.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
Fred knows that if he is going to shine it is going to be here bc the Bills and Jets are a mess and so is the QB pool for the draft.
|
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
i agree with you all, Fred knows RG3 is his best option at qb by far from those teams, I also agree that he has the talent to be top 10, that being said I want him back but would not be heartbroken if he left. I think Griffin is good enough to make an athletic tight end that we could pick up in the draft look very good.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
There is basically no market for Fred Davis. I mean zilch. He's stuck and he's knows it. Might as well sign a one year deal and hope for a bigger payday next year.

The Bills are a mess, but he could still put up numbers in their offense with F. Jackson, S.Johnson distracting defenses. He could go there, have a payday, put up some good stats, and then smoke his way out of the league.. Depends on what he wants to do. Then again, if he wants to win games and play in a big market with $$ endorsement potential, he could sign with us, take a paycut x 1 year and then get paid big-time next year.. |
