Could this statement be used to characterize that the injuries did not happen to Robert on "design run plays", but rather improvisation on Robert's part?

For all the read option drama, it's interesting to note we only ran it on average 8 times per game. It's not the basis of this offense.

So what you are saying is that you want Jared Allen, JPP, and DeMarcus Ware to be able to just rush without worrying about anything else and having RG3 take off running on a scramble all the time?

I thought you were concerned with his health?

RG3 would not have been injured once the entire year if he had just ran out of bounds twice (Atlanta and Baltimore). Its on RG3 to get down or out of bounds. If he doesnt do that, it does not matter what scheme we run, he will get injured. But then again, thats true for any QB.

Of course the option works b/c the QB is a running threat. Please show me any post that asserted that the [i]threat[/i] of the QB running was unimportant to or not an essential element of the RO.

Running the RO 10 times threatens a QB run each and every time even if he only keeps it once.

I would suggest, at this point, in any given game it is unnecessary for RGIII to keep it even once for the him to be a threat on each play given how dangerous he has shown himself to be as a runner.

With his "new" interpretation of the rules on hitting the "qb" the read option should be on the way out this year. So the Shannys will have to find a way to block a pass rusher.

Griffin cannot be exposed in the RO option as he was last year due to the new "rules" he can now be demolished on each and every handoff when he is an "option". Get it! There is a difference between this year and last, last year he could simply show that he was not the runner after the handoff, now he can be hit as defensive insurance that he doesn't have the ball or so that he won't have the ball. Big deterrent to the RO. Defenses are now on an even plane, they don't have to fall for the fake the qb stays a 'live player" through-out the play inside the tackles.

They didn't write "new"rules. Basically they clarified that a qb in a RO play can be tackled like a runner(hits on lower legs) as opposed to being protected by qb rules. If Griffin declares himself out of the play he isn't getting hit without a penalty. The concern about the hits that harbaugh raised was looking for protection to the legs and head that a pocket qb has on a play action pass.

Griffin demonstrated for most of last season that he understands how to protect himself on the RO. The concern, until Griffin proves otherwise, will be scrambling situations late in games that we are behind in and he feels internal pressure to make plays.

Once he gives himself up by putting his hands up he's safe.

If you did as much research as you do defending the RO, you would note the quarterback once he is established as a runner or a running option on a play to a "defensive player he is to be treated as a runner until a run fake is carried outside of the tackle box"

Also, I stated new "rule" I was incorrect, they are re-interpreting the rule. The fact that it allows the defender to hit the qb as a runner(at or below the waist), it spells DOOM for the RO.

Sorry but I think old Jim here is little bit of a whiner , he's worried about his QB who out of all the RO/QBs there are out there I think he will have the hardest time , just a hunch .

Um no, see above. If he clearly doesn't have the ball and is no longer carrying out a fake, the defense can't hit the QB.
