The closest places to my house are Wawa at $2.79 and Exxon at $2.85. Yes, this summer is going to blow if this pace keeps up.

Alot of that $5.25 is actually taxes to pay for all their social programs so thats not really a fair comparison. |
Re: F... gas prices
Record cold leading to more heating oil being used? Only thing that I can think of...

Re: F... gas prices
My boat has a 160 gallon fule tank which to fill up would cost me around $430. I only fill up the boat when I'm going to keep it in the water and the cost of gas at a marina is about 50 cents more per gallon. Filling it up to just run around the river some does not make sense because each extra gallon weighs about 8 pounds of extra weight.
|
Re: F... gas prices
Gas went up 40 cents in the last week around here.

ok, but 8 pounds, i just hadn't thought about it in those terms. Maybe i'll go by a gallon of milk and weigh it :laughing- |

I am not sure but I think gas weighs a bit less then water, since water is the most dense thing on earth. |

I looked it up myself and found it weighs 6 1/2 pounds. Still if I only fill the tank up 1/2 way which is more then I'll use on a good weekend I'm cutting out 520 pounds of extra weight (6.5 x 80 = 520). Its the little things I do for the enviroment. |
Re: F... gas prices
I thought Bush & Chenney drove up the gas prices because they were big oil guys. So why is gas now at $3.00?
|
Re: F... gas prices
A couple weeks ago I was paying 3 bucks for a gallon of gas. Stopped at my local gas station yesterday as me and co. were leaving for the Skins game and noticed it was 3.30. WTF?
|
Re: F... gas prices
Yeah it's creeping up again. But it's not like it went down that far any way.

I don't know about that. I think a few Warpath posters (or former posters in the case of joetheismanfan) could qualify as the densest thing on earth. Certainly, we have a few in the top 10. |
Re: F... gas prices
Well no need to start a new thread so. F*ck Gas prices. Funny now that Bush and Chenney are gone the left is pretty quiet about the sharp rise in gas prices. I filled up yesterday and it cost $78.00. I'm sure this will cut down on how much I use my boat this year and not many free rides for friends. We will all have to chip in on gas.
|
Re: F... gas prices
bring back the good old days. my first gallon of gas was $0.30, my how times have changed.
Fortunately I don't have to do much driving anymore, sometimes thirty miles a week. When I burn the first quarter tank I fill up again. |
Re: F... gas prices
I think part of the problem is that we all got spoiled with historically cheap gas prices inthe 90's. Cars built in the 90s took advantage of that and now were paying for it. I filled up at lunch for 3.65 (Kroger Glen Allen), which is a ridiculous price. 2.50 -2.85 should be the norm now-a-dayz.

Re: F... gas prices
You get what you pay for...in this case the ability to independently drive to where you want to go and enjoy your freedom. If the price isn't to your liking perhaps it's time for you to lend strong support for better public transportation?
I know the word "public" is scary to some of you but the benefits to your pockets outweigh your disdain for "big" government. |

Now if I lived in DC and when I vist DC its great. I don't have a problem with public transportation were it makes sense but some areas try to fit a square peg in a round hole. |
Re: F... gas prices
public transit in dc is a joke, nothing ever works and it cost so much might as well be comfortable and drive yourself
here in woodbridge the wawa at miniieville and caton hill has gas at $3.77 which is about what gas is down here, it's $3.82 at the exxon at minnieville and old bridge. i was in springfield today and the gas at the exxon at rolling rd and braddock rd is $4.05 and thats f-ing retarded. i don't understand how gas could be $.28 different with about 10 miles of each other. f-ing oil companies, there needs to be some sort of gudieline as to where the gas prices should be. there is no reason at all that gas prices should have that big of a difference when they are that close to each other. and although i like the idea of a hybrid i think right now is the worst possible time to buy one. you are most likely going to pay $2-3k more than you should for the car. and even though you will be saving 20 to 30 at the pump it's gonna take a lot of fill ups to make it worth while. |
Re: F... gas prices

Big oil can blow me. |
Re: F... gas prices
I went over to West Palm (the other coast) last night for a concert. I was going to tank up before returning......@ $4.29...per
F.. THAT. I bought like a half tank. Enough to get me back....whoa shit! |

Lol every year on the news without fail: winter - "gas prices are expected to go up as demand is increasing for home heating as teperatures drop across the country" summer- "gas prices are expected to go up b/c of demand as travelers fill up for road trips vacation plans...." Its 4.16 for premium at my cheap gas spot in Baltimore. Its about 4.35 for premium in silver spring right now. Insane, im spending 16 bucks a day to go to work assuming a low-ball estimate of me getting 22.5 mpg on 90 miles round trip. |
Re: F... gas prices
High Oil Prices= Crappy Economy. Well theres more to it than that but it's a big part.

Re: F... gas prices
IT makes me laugh that it will go up in a heart beat but take for ever to go back down. The whole system is a ****ing joke.

Re: F... gas prices
Funny how people don't seem to care as much as they did 2-3 years ago. It's like we've gotten used to getting robbed at the pump. $5/gallon is probably right around the corner.

So then whats stopping it from going tp $7.00 by 2014? $10.00? $11.00? $12.00? Since the USA sucks down mammoth proportions of gas every year I'd say its time the govt started making some seruios rules or our lifestyles are going to be foxxored big time. |
Re: F... gas prices
Simple supply and demand. Some of the largest countries in the world are becoming industrialized. With the rise of demand from India and China there's no doubt prices will go up. I love how people love to preach free market and capitalism -- then bitch when oil companies charge more for gas. They should be doing what nets them the highest profit. Who here has stopped driving? I haven't. It will take a much high price to get me to quit as well.
It's time to start finding renewable energy sources. Not bitch about gas prices. |

This. My family were trying to figure out which grocery store is best for us, and have stuck with Giant Food strictly for the Shell Gas Points. From our shopping, I save $1.20/gallon at Shell today, paying $2.69/gallon. Was able to fill up both cars for around $70 (around 26 gallons). Luckily, my job is 3 miles from my house, so I fill up the minivan once every 10 days or so. My wife commutes to Rockville and back (70 miles round-trip) 3 days a week, so she's filling up once every 4 commuting days or so. I remember in college being able to fill my 12 gallon gas tank for less than $10. And my 88 Accord got 30+ miles to the gallon. Damn, I wish I still had that car. |

Damn, I wish I still had that car.
You might be saving in gas but you spent $1200 in groceries in 30 days! I too use the gas points at Giant and the program works like this 1 point for every $1 spent. You need 100 points or $100 spent to save a .10 on a gallon of gas. You can use for one fill (one car) a max of 35 gallons and/or 2200 points. Points only last 30 days no roll over. You can check the rules here under FAQ: Gasoline*-* Giant So your above scenario seems off how you got 1200 points and filled two cars doing that. Either your confused or did the math wrong. I just don't know how you got 1200 points in 30 days which would also mean you are filling up somewhere else because you be eating into your points and/or you literally had a one time $1200 shopping trip and in that case gas is not the drain on your budget it is your food bill. Plus how you got the discount on two cars is a head scratcher too me. Honestly I use the programing but in no way do I think it is some super savings. I have too spend $100 (I realize not hard to do when you have a family) to save a .10 on a gallon gas which equates to me filling my 20 gallon tank and I save a whooping $2. |
Re: F... gas prices
$3.97 here!
|
Re: F... gas prices
right at 3.99 here in Winchester, VA where i work. My jeep wrangler costs 63.00 to fill up, my wife's mitsubishi mirage costs 47.88 to fill up, and my work truck Ford Ranger costs $70.

That's because "their guy" is in office. It can't be denied. If McCain or any other Republican were in charge right now, we'd have the daily reports from gas pumps all over the nation and Libya would be called a "War for Oil" too. |
Re: F... gas prices
I've got the receipt in the car to show the $1.20 saved. I put 12 gallons into my wife's car and 14 gallons into mine. You can buy certain combination of items and get 100, 200 or 300 bonus points during a shop, and I know we've done that before.
It could be that their system is screwed up and the accrual is bonkers or my family (unbeknown to me but a likely scenario) is using my account as well. More often than not, i'm getting 10-20 cents off. I've gotten 50 cents off before (several times), and I've gotten over $1 one other time that I remember. In any scenario, I'm sticking with Giant for now. Whether it's 10 cents off or $1.00 off, any little bit counts. Plus I use (and pay off each month) a Shell gas card that gives me 5 cents back per gallon purchased (and since we hit the minimum each month, we'll get back an average of $3/month) If you're filling up once a week, that $2 becomes $100 over the course of a year. While it's not much, that $100 is a night on the town, or extra money for vacation, or what have you... |
