Re: 2009 Free Agents
MAck has pulled out of the combine with an injured ankle, but an interesting thing I heard from mayock which I think you all should realize is that he falls on his back a lot, which can be a problem... What is your thoughts on maybe getting a max unger who can play any position on the oline, or eric wood who is not that different from mack... Also after watching the combine I think AQ Shipley is a decent looking center and he's a four year starter whose started since he was a freshman I believe
And to SFREDSKIN, I hope/ think your wrong about john Jansen he's got to go |

I know Jansen is the type of player who will not quit and we'll come back to prove everyone wrong, I have a gut feeling that he will. I'm putting on my flame suit as we speak. |

Sfred you and I see Jansen the same way... he's a tough guy who plays w/ pride and it shows in his vicious run blocking. That said I really, really want him to move to the inside cuz that would mean we have a stud addition at RT. Basically i thought we could/should cut Kendell because he can't even practice w/ the offense during a season, so either JJ or Rinehart would have to step up at LG. (My money would be on Jansen) ... on a side note Kendell, while the best of our interior lineman last year anyway, is also the smallest by just a few pounds. It will be nice to have either Jansen or Rinehart in there to add some mass. Rinehart is huge i so hope he can rise to the challenge soon. |

:laughing2 Jansen is just one tough SOB which is why it's so hard for a coach to replace him. |
Re: 2009 Free Agents
I am thinking Jason Brown from Baltimore may be a very smart target in FA for us. He's a big C at 320lb, can play G and was the anchor of a very good Baltimore line, he's only 26. He's a huge improvement over Rabach at C, definitely fills an immediate need, and could solidify the position for 4-5 years. Baltimore has already franchised Suggs so there is a good chance Brown will hit the market. This also would allow us to concentrate of OT, DT/DE, and LB in the draft.
Jason Brown is a restricted free agent, and I'm sure Baltimore is going to offer him a tender. He would be a good free agent, but it would cost us picks that we don't have unfortunately. |

I'm pretty sure he's Unrestricted this year. He was RFA last year. He is looking for Alan Faneca money, although I wouldn't pay that. |

Well this website has him listed a a RFA.... 2009 NFL Free Agents: OL Although if he isn't, then I say let's go after this guy. At least talk to him or something Couldn't we not sign Pete Kendall and sign this guy instead? Here's his report from Scouts, Inc.:
2008 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc. Grade: 78 | Key Alert: None Comment: Brown is a big, strong and wide-bodied interior offensive lineman who has a very thick lower body that makes him difficult to move backwards. Brown played both guard and center in college. While he has only played guard in the NFL, he is capable of handling the pivot and should do an excellent job against massive nose tackle types from the center position. He is a very powerful man who can push a pile or anchor against bigger pass rushers. He is a mauler who puts smaller men on their back and he shows a willingness to finish his blocks. Brown has heavy hands and can stun opposing linemen with his punch and long arms. He is a smart player who acclimated to the NFL quickly and has good recognition of stunts and blitzes. While he continues to improve in this area, Brown is still much better coming forward than retreating in pass protection. He isn't a very good space player and once beaten, can struggle to recover against quicker, more athletic interior pass rushers. He is a two-year starter who should continue to improve. He works hard and is well respected. The Ravens need to be careful with his tender because if they tender him too low, many teams around the league could pounce on Brown. He is a legitimate starter on a power-running team and his stock should continue to rise.
|
Re: 2009 Free Agents
Jason Brown is an unrestricted FA. If we can afford him great, but as Sammy said, for the right price. I would love to have him but if we can trade down and get Mack, I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Re: 2009 Free Agents
Completely unrelated to the Redskins, I just found it surprising that the Colts would like Jeff Saturday test the market. He's been the anchor of the Colts' offensive line, and Manning's struggles this year (along with his injuries) were also due to Saturday being out of the line up.

Re: 2009 Free Agents
Hey it looks like Ray Willis (Seahawks) is the best RT left in FA. Anybody know his history and how much it will likely cost to sign him? I notice he's very young at 27 too so this could be a longterm guy for us.

If we sign anyone from the Seahawks it should be Maurice Morris. A vastly underrated running back, this guy knows Z's offense and is a complete player. Averaged 5+yards per clip after Shaun Alexander left. Would be a great compliment to Portis and might come on the cheap. |
Re: 2009 Free Agents

I got this from Redskins.com I think OT is our most important need to fill. I also feel strongly about obtaining OT through the Draft. I would love to be lucky enough to get Eugene Monroe.
Three Offensive Tackles Available In NFL Draft As of Feb. 20, 2009; names listed are in no particular order -- Andre Smith, Alabama: Smith stands at 6-4 in height and his weight alternates between 330-340 pounds. His forte is run blocking, so he may need some work on pass protection skills. -- Eugene Monroe, Virginia: At 6-6 and 315 pounds, Monroe was a three-year starter for the Cavaliers. He backed up D’Brickashaw Ferguson as a freshman and played alongside Brandon Albert as a sophomore and junior. -- Michael Oher, Mississippi: The 6-5, 315-pound prospect was a four-year starter at Ole Miss. He was the subject of a 2006 book called “The Ballad of Big Mike,” about his life growing up in Memphis Sorry, just realized I posted this in the wrong thread. Re: 2009 Free Agents
Actually khalif barnes is a free agent so ray willis isn't the only UFA Tackle available... Also donald Penn the LT of the Bucs is a RFA, and was the only LT last year who didn't allow a demarcus ware sack... And jason brown would be a great huge pick up for us, for many reasons, simply because he can play guard or center, and if he is a center then we can cut rabach trade down in the draft, get Eben britton in the late first and get maybe a guard or DE in the second... If brown plays guard, the you let Kendall go cut Jansen and draft mack later in the first or stay where we are and draft an Oher
Crowell is pretty good. He plays strong side but he missed last year with an injury and had knee surgery. He's only 27 and could be a good value for someone willing to take a chance.
The Redskins love players that are recovering from injuries. We are in need of a cheap strongside linebacker. I think this sounds like a guy we will go after. |

He's basically a younger version of Frerotte. He would fit in well for them I think. The sooner they realize T.Jackson is probably not an NFL starter, the better off they will be. If they develop a consistent passing threat, they are a contender. They've got everything else. |

He's gigantic at 6-7 320, and a smart dude from what I understand. Plus he's only 26. He's worth a look for sure. |

worth a look, but he's not really going to blow anyone away with talent.

young yes, proven no |
Re: 2009 Free Agents
John Clayton was talking about Jeff Garcia going to the Vikings, which despite his age would make more sense to me. Rosenfels is kinda hit or miss. Garcia could step right in, run the WCO and make the Vikes legitimate contenders. (not that we would want this)

I think Kwame Harris led the league in false starts last year and has breakdowns quite a bit in pass pro from what I've read. |

But his upside?!?!?!? :D I actually would like to at least bring him in, especially if Buges thinks he can coach him. Actually I think a better acquisition would be Robert Gallery if he was available as we already proved we can make one Raider play top notch then maybe we can make another. Kalif Barnes should also get a look. If we're looking for value in the form of what we got in Grif then those two guys (Harris and Barnes) would be a good place to start. Still I'm looking at Andre Smith. |
Re: 2009 Free Agents
in my opinion we should sign hall to a reasonable deal.. if not let's look at bly or bodden

Re: 2009 Free Agents
oh and chris canty too if we can't find a solid 3-deep DE core
|
Re: 2009 Free Agents
in my opinion we should sign hall to a reasonable deal.. if not let's look at bly or bodden
It all depends on the dline. If we sign somebody like Haynesworth then i'd say we could go without elite corner play. If we don't upgrade the line then we need elite corner play to cover their ass off because we can't get any pressure on the quarterback. |
Re: 2009 Free Agents
canty could be good value, though i figured the roids would figure out a way to keep him... for CBs, i'd look at foxworth if it's workable, since i don't think he's going to break the bank and he can play.

Re: 2009 Free Agents
porter isn't very good, and i doubt many other teams want him. nobody plays for raiders unless a) they have to (draft picks, low talent) or b) they don't mind being paid a lot to lose.

Got a good laugh when I read that Dan Orlovsky wants to test the free agent market to be a starter.
Any predictions on where Marvin Harrison will wind up? I say Chicago or Seattle. |

Scary scenario, but it could easily happen. While the Eagles receiving core are not a bunch of household names, I think they have a lot of young, solid guys. DeSean Jackson, Jason Avant, Reggie Brown and I'm not sure if Hank Baskett is still there. Add Harrison to the mix, and that would worry me a little. |

Well this scenario is already out there... From ESPN Rumors (insider access)
Harrison and McNabb to reunite? Marvin Harrison | Colts | Interested: Eagles? Updating a situation first reported this past Thursday, Adam Schefter of NFL.com has been told by a league source that Marvin Harrison has asked the Indianapolis Colts for his release. Furthermore, speculation has begun as to where Harrison will continue his career and Schefter thinks that the Philadelphia Eagles might be a good fit. Harrison, who was born in Philadelphia and lives there currently, owns several businesses in the Philadelphia area. In addition, he was college teammates at Syracuse University with Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, where the two formed a quite dynamic tandem before Harrison would form one of the greatest tandems in NFL history with Peyton Manning as a member of the Colts. If the Colts release Harrison, they will save $7 million against the 2009 salary cap, and will look to Anthony Gonzalez to continue developing as the complement to Reggie Wayne.
|
Re: 2009 Free Agents
Damn, I also heard that the Eagles could be looking to sign McNabb to an extension.
|
Re: 2009 Free Agents
Damn, I also heard that the Eagles could be looking to sign McNabb to an extension.
Well the word is that McNabb is waiting to see what the Iggles are going to do in free agency. So I can see Harrison going to Philly to make McNabb happy and get him to sign an extension. Maybe we'll get lucky and Harrison has the same luck that Jason Taylor had last season and doesn't contribute. (I know, I know, that's mean to say). |
Re: 2009 Free Agents
Yes, and lets also hope that Donovans' better years are behind him.:FIREdevil
|
Re: 2009 Free Agents
Outside of acquiring Boldin or Houshmandzadeh, Philly can't actually do anything to improve on the two guys they actually have, not to mention how deep they are (save Greg Lewis).
I think McNabb really needs to shut up. I think if he keeps a low profile, people might actually not realize what is keeping the Philly Offense back. For those of you keeping count, McNabb has now thrown: 1) his top tier defense, and 2) his above average receiving corps under the bus in order to try to explain away why they "can't win the big one" so to speak. The truth is that Donovan McNabb is a good quarterback with a fantastic supporting cast. The Eagles are a perennially great team. It's unfortunate for those guys that they haven't won the super bowl yet, because they've certainly been good enough so many different times. But Donovan really needs to look in the mirror, because his play has declined so much over the last three years, and he's trying to blame it on everyone but himself. |
Re: 2009 Free Agents
Harrison would be a pretty ideal fit here for one year, no? Especially if Moss is traded.
