Hey, now that's an idea! |
With Chase Daniel you clearly have much more mobility when the pocket breaks down. And believe me, the pocket was breaking down tonight.
True, the guy knows when to take off with the ball when the shit hits the fan. Too bad that we couldn't get a clear winner in the #3 QB sweepstakes. Now it might be as close as a coin flip. I just hope we can keep both of them. I am still troubled that our #1 offense went back to non scoring form. Not much of a running game tonight. It is going to be interesting opening day. Hopefully CP is 100%. |
I was thinking that he was going to overtake Thomas during the season but now I'm not as confident about that assumption. Still I think within a year he will at least be our #3 Reciever and who knows we might end up with Kelly and Mitchell at 1 and 2 with Santana getting a lot of looks in the slot. In fact I dont' see why we wouldn't try something like that this year with 2 of our big guys at the 1 and 2 with Tana taking the slot.
Sounds good. It wouldn't surprise me. |

If Colt is hurt hopefully its not serious. If one is released i hope he gets another shot somewhere. There are many teams looking for QB depth. |

IMO Colt's not going anywhere. |
Re: Redskins vs. Jags Gameday thread
Game over...here's my thoughts.
Dockery was great...could push for playing time. Starting oline was pretty good...Campbell was his consistant average to above average. The young wideouts have improved again...good steady improvement. The starting d was again less than expected. Henson had some boneheaded plays put has enough impact to earn a roster spot. They didn't play Dorsey enough to give him a chance at a roster spot...same with mason. Either Alridge make it or we go with 3 tailbacks. Chris Wilson is still a pass rush specialist to me...ok as LB. I really like our sup draft pick..forgot name due to beer. Mike Williams looked consistantly overmatched...even with the backups. No real kicking competition...swishy stays. I think Colt could be in trouble...his intangibles just aren't that great....and his gunslinger errors have hurt him this preseason....and his flashy ability to scramble which was a wow factor last year is no longer that great compaired to Daniel. Our backup corners aint ready yet...to say Westbrook has a chance...and he does now...is a scary thing. Bottom line. We were all concerned with Backup tackle and backup LBs.... I still have that concern. I would not be upset if the skins brought back marcus washington and grabed the best OT available that is cut. I have been a Mike Williams fan, and have given him all the chance in the world...but based on tonight...they cut the wrong dude....we need a better backup OT. |
Re: Redskins vs. Jags Gameday thread
Colt Brennan 10-14, 83 yards.
|
Re: Redskins vs. Jags Gameday thread
ive liked chase daniel since his heisman run a few years ago with mizzou, so im a little biased, but he can move this team down the field better than colt can imo. he reads the game very quickly and is very mobile. i hope he wins the job

Re: Redskins vs. Jags Gameday thread
Colt Brennan postgame comment(cheering with both hands over his head)....."Ooooo-hooo no interceptions today everybody!!!" Maybe the kid is learning......I love it.

I think he will do ok. This is a kid who played in a system where his HC couldnt even spell Field Goal. He has to learn when its not there let it go and live to fight another day. TAKE THE 3 |
Re: Redskins vs. Jags Gameday thread
Chase Daniel, 8-16, 85 yards, TD
86.7 passer rating vs. Jags. |
Re: Redskins vs. Jags Gameday thread
Question, ok if you were the FO or JZ even VC and you thought Colt & Chase were equal who would you pick & why?

Uh-oh. Blache is taking question from the Comcast crew.

Well if they were TRUELY equal, Chase because of his age. But I think the way they are, Colt will make a better pro QB. That's JMO. |

Westbrook has no chance. I mean zero chance of making the team. |
Re: Redskins vs. Jags Gameday thread
How 'bout Reed Doughty bringing it tonight. He was flying around the edge. I'd love to see him whack Eli a few times.

Very impressed w/ Doughty. I've also heard that the coaches say that he seems to have an instinct as to where the ball is going to be. We're in good shape with him backing up Horton. |
Re: Redskins vs. Jags Gameday thread
Reed, Wilson and Jarmon were the highlights of tonight. Glad to see Marko come back after a rough start. JC is throwing w/ authority and looks like he has commnad of the offense. If any of our starting O-linemen get hurt we're in serious trouble.
Sorry dude .... 24-17 Jags.
thanks man, so we made a little bit of a push in the second half. who led the offense in the 3rd and 4th quarter? |
thanks man, so we made a little bit of a push in the second half. who led the offense in the 3rd and 4th quarter?
Chase Daniel got the first shot immediately after Campbell's one and only series. He played until the first series of the 3rd quarter -- played against the Jags first string D and was under heavy pressure -- couldn't really do anything passing, but was able to get some nice yardage scrambling. Then Colt took over, but got hurt with about 4 min. to go in the 4th quarter. |
Re: Redskins vs. Jags Gameday thread
I think I've been most impressed with Marko and Kelly this pre-season. At the start of camp if I had to put money on who would be starting between Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly, I would have bet Devin Thomas 9 out of 10 times. But I think Kelly has the nod going into game 1.

im nervous as hell about our backup OT! everyone is just running around big mike

Agreed. Campbell on the first play, firing a bullet to Kelly on the sidelines was awesome. I feel much better about Thomas and Kelly. Robert Henson was blowing things up tonight too. I'm still at a loss about who the LBs are going to be though. |
Re: Redskins vs. Jags Gameday thread
I am worried about special teams coverage and blocking teams.
I am worried about O line depth I am worried about #3 LB and beyond...unless it is Blades. I would attack orapko as a LB intensely with the passing game. Great improvements with WR, even to #5...punter..I am comfortable with Swishy at K. QB is adequate...Portis is great...we all know that...depth is ok. Why weren't our #1-2 TE's in the game? I was a bit disappointed in the battle for #4 RB...not much fantastic...but ok |
Re: Redskins vs. Jags Gameday thread
I am uninspired by defense... a ton of offseason hype again...but nothing amazing, thats for sure...we shall see when the season starts...don't drink the kool aid until you see if it kills you first.

You must be a depressing drunk. LOL. I on the other hand see a pretty dominant defense. Our line has been held all season long by the opposition's o-line. Our backups did a decent job against Jax's first team offense. And Haynesworth does make a difference in that line. It is to early to say for a fact that they are going to be elite...but on the same token it is too early to say they are going to dissappoint. |

But I don't like the fact that he was loafing last week and looked out of shape. We'll see next week. I think Smoot and Orakpo have had real nice pre seasons. I think Wilson has earned playing time w/ the starters too. |

I've been hearing him being out of shape, don't know what to make of it. In regards to last week, this was the freaking Pats we were playing against...and even against them we manage to put a little pressure and punch Brady in the mouth. Honestly, last year's team would have gotten no pressure on the Pats, and the little pressure we got on them I thought was an improvement. I think if anyone expected 10 sacks of Brady or having him running for his life, is delusional. It wil be nice yes, but you have to be realistic. I expect this defense, and especially the d-line, to put a lot of pressure and create turnover against average and below average teams, and put up good fights against elite teams (i.e. the Pats). |
Re: Redskins vs. Jags Gameday thread
I think that we're on our way to becoming a good team, a playoff team. We're not there yet.
There are only a few concerns in my book and that's O-line depth and consistency. Can anyone tell my why Blache plays the CBs so far off the effing WRs? |
Re: Redskins vs. Jags Gameday thread
I really liked that we aired the ball out alot more these two preseason games. And fairly successfully, sure would have been nice for either Kelly's pass in the Pitt game or AREs tonight to have been successful. But I think Zorn was very smart to show enough of this hand that the Giants will have to expect it, and play the whole field and not just the run. I think our offense could surprise a lot of people, who just read stat lines, and don't see the difference from last year.
|
Re: Redskins vs. Jags Gameday thread
I'm really happy about two things:
1) preseason is over and we've had no major injuries (except maybe for Colt). Yoohoo! 2) now it all counts, it is all for real...finally. |
Re: Redskins vs. Jags Gameday thread
I think we'll get better at the long ball. We haven't had a lot of practice with it. :)

Can anyone tell my why Blache plays the CBs so far off the effing WRs?
Well when you don't generate pass rush, you expect the qb will take more time. Actually, I think his premise is always been the [aggravating] bend don't break. Give up a little in front of you if necessary, but make them drive the whole field, sooner or later they will make a mistake. Kinda funny since that's been our offense's exact problem. If the cb's are jamming or pressing, and the receiver gets behind them, it's a TD. Hopefully with AH and Orakpo, the qb will be throwing off his back foot more, and by playing back you can break on the ball better. That is best case scenario. Worst case, they dink/dunk and stay on the field forever:( |
Re: Redskins vs. Jags Gameday thread
another thing i liked about this preseason, is we played our 2nds against the opponents 1sts alot. I think this will pay big dividends when a player is called up to the first team. It's one thing to play the whole 2nd line, but different if you have the starters in and just one backup.
I also am amazed at how little we used Cooley. I can't begin to imagine that he and CP wont be highlighted against the giants. |
