Re: Coaching Staff update
Understandable, but what about surrounding yourself with good people? Gibbs had Bugel and Williams in his second stint, both of whom had HC experience. I don't exactly see anyone banging down his door right now to co-ordinate their defense. Taking a reduced role might be a good thing for him rather than taking a year or so off. Then again, he might just land that head coaching job in the college ranks that he has been looking for. Tennessee maybe? I know that he really wants to coach the Huskies though.
Well, Gibbs didn't exactly have huge success with Williams or Bugel either. Surrounding yourself with good people is obviously smart. But remember when we had Bugel, Williams, Gibbs, and Saunders? You essentially had 4 head-coach caliber guys. We were terrible that year. Too many cooks so to speak. Hiring an all-star staff name-wise isn't necessarily the best thing for the team. If Sarkisian had left Washington to go back to USC, I'm pretty sure Mora would be the coach of the Huskies. |

Marcus Mason has retired as a player. He will use his expertise in blocking to coach the offensive line. |

Oh man, and I was sure that Trung Candidate was going to get the job. |

It's all good. That article wasn't too convincing though, it seemed more like a wild guess or a plea rather than thought from a person that had inside info. Only time will tell I guess, but thanks for the heads up. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
You know who I really feel sorry for? Raider fans. Maybe they look at us the same way but we have a young owner not one who's senile and on a power trip. At what point do the other share holders finally step up and tell him to back off? or if he's the only share holder when does he finally realize he's the problem and put people in place to run the team and back off? Pretty soon if not now no one will be taking the HCing job to have to work with him. Unless you want an instant pay day. Get a 3 yr 12 mill deal and only work for 1 yr. LOL. Sit on the couch and collect the rest.

Then again he may be old a senile but that means that he is closer to being on his way out. Snyder is still young a kicking. We may actually have the short end of the stick. I do give credit to Snyder for what he has done this offseason. One can only hope that he keeps it up. |
Can anyone tell me the latest on our new OL coach??? Who are we going to interview/have we interviewed for the job
I believe MS and BA hired all the people they could off the bat, then went in, talked with Buges, and watched tape of the OL we currently have. If they ever are able to stop weeping and gnashing their teeth, we will start hearing OL coach names. Since it has been pointed out that the remaining playoff teams have solid OL's does anyone know if one of their OL coachs might jump ship to the Redskins? Russ Grimm maybe (although I don't know how we make that happen with a new title since he is already assistant head coach/OL) |
Re: Coaching Staff update
Grimm didn't want the the Bills Head Coaching job so I don't see why he would leave Arizona to come here... or why Arizona would let him go.
|
Re: Coaching Staff update
Apparently this guy will not be retained as ARE's punt return coach.

I only mentioned Grimm because of his ties here, my broader question is whether or not any of the playoff teams have an OL coach or young OL assistant that would work in Shanahan's scheme. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
Anyone have any idea what the Seahawks offered Gray, since it was a "it's a one-of-a-kind offer?"

Well to be fair that job was turned down by quite a few coaches. |

True, but he seems content in Arizona. Sure, he played for the skins, but he's spent a good deal of his professional career working with wisenhut. they have a pretty good thing going on over there. i dont see any reasons that shanahan would want grimm or why grimm would want to leave arizona for a lateral move. |

HC/OL coach. His only promotion will be to HC. #4- Can we all stop mentioning Grimm and this team in the same sentence? Unless DS gets a brain fart and completely fires everyone Grimm will not be here. Sorry, I couldn't think of a soft way to let you all down. On a side note I thought I heard last night at the end of "Redskins Insider" or whatever was on Comcast that Shanahan would be finalizing his coaching roster today, Tues. Jan 19th. I hope it's complete and we pick up a decent OL, and WR coach. |

The Bills have a HC.

Re: Coaching Staff update
Miami is interested in Nolan. Nolan improved Denvers defense in almost every statistical category. McDaniels is looking pretty stupid right now.

I agree with points 2 and 3 completely, I think #1 and 4 are inter-related, in that Grimm might have liked to be back with the Skins, and Allen might have liked the historical reference. I haven't heard many names for OL, so I was trying to think where they might be getting one from, and the 4 remaining playoff teams all looked like solid resources who we might not have had a chance to conduct interviews with yet. If they are naming the rest by today like you thought you heard, than that would probably not be the answer. |

Re: Coaching Staff update
According to Twitter:
RT @RickMaese: Jackson, DSmith an Olivadotti retained by #Redskins. Not kept: SSmith, Mitchell, Meidt, Wachenheim, Gray, Palermo, Hixon I thought Meidt was being kept?? |
Re: Coaching Staff update
Meidt was in the running but obviously wasn't a lock.
|
Re: Coaching Staff update
i don't know what's more surprising: keeping jackson or letting grey and meidt go.

Re: Coaching Staff update
I am sadden to see Jackson still on this staff. I feel he stunted the growth of both Sean Taylor and Laron Landry. Please correct me if I am wrong about this.

yes, but he also turned doughty, moore, and horton into pretty good players. when the same coach turns nobodys into good/serviceable players and the development of top 10 draft picks seems stunted, i'm inclined to think the coach is good and its just the top 10 draft picks that were stubborn and/or immature. that said, the skins evidently chose jackson over gray - a real headscratcher unless gray really wanted to get out of DC and the skins let him go since he agreed to the sham interview. |

What are you basing this on?? ST was breaking out and having his best season before he died. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
^ but before that season he had his worst statistical season. During that time I remember an artice questioning the setup of a secondary coach and a seperate safeties coach.

The two top picks got picked up so my next question is who else in the Pro ranks teaches zone/cut blocking? If there are none then who at the college level teaches zone/cut blocking? Again if cut blocking is not being taught then we might have to either learn to work around that or we are screwed. I just wish someone could provide a list of zone/cut blocking OL coaches. |

Nooooooo!! How has this guy kept his job for so long? |
Re: Coaching Staff update
Jacob Burney, Denver DL coach, is taking the same position here. looking at denver's past defenses, this guy has got to be one of the worst DL coaches in the league. really dont understand thie one.
|
Re: Coaching Staff update
our special teams returns have been god awful the past few years except for a handful of moss returns.
with that being said, our special teams coverage unit was solid all year. i dont remember a team returning a kickoff or punt against us this year. |

I feel like our secondary was the least productive unit on the entire team when you compare physical talent to on the field production. I was hoping all coaches that had anything to do with DBs would be gone. |

Ok this is what I've got so far from doing a little searching...
Paul Johnson with Georgia Tech teach's Zone/Cut blocking http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Johnson_(American_football_coach) Rick Trickett with Florida State University teach's Zone/Cut blocking Florida State University Official Athletic Site |

i am not a fan of cut blocking. just seemed kinda weak and cheap, diving at a guys legs the second the ball is snapped.
