We've already covered this but here are just a few off the top of my head
Gruden - fired Billick - fired Ditka - fired Seifert - fired Landry - fired
I will take the time to review the percentages in comparison to all SB played. You do however remind me of a couple that escaped my memory. Thanks for refreshing. |
Re: Mcnabb appears to be done and he is the reason for this loss
Did anyone see the play in the second to the last redskins drive of the game, the skins come out of the huddle the camera pans to the sidelines and Kyle drops his arms and shruggs his shoulders. I'm not a lip reader but to me it looked like he said "what in the hell is he doing"! I think this is more telling than anything. Is Mcnabb out there doing his own thing. If there a problem between the staff and Mcnabb, I wonder if its with Kyle and not totally the old man. Any thoughts?

As much as a lot of people would probably like to see Donovan back next year, that decision will not be 100% his to make.

There is a clear and present disconnect between McNabb and Shanahan. What happened at the end of Sunday's game was of such magnitude, it's not going to go away in a couple of days. Listening to Donovan relate to the media is like pouring water over a duck's back. He's a savvy enough communicator that he'll always know how to deliver. He could despise Shanahan and you'd never know, that's one of the characteristics I admire in him. |

So tired of King, Tim Hassleback, Mort and everyone else that is starting to pile on McNabb. Who are their sources? I swear some of these guys make 80% up of the crap they say just to out do one another.

Re: Mcnabb appears to be done and he is the reason for this loss
How can we expect McNabb to succeed under the circumstances?
In Philly he read from short to long, here from long to short. WITH THIS OFFENSIVE LINE? Even when he has time to throw it, he never has space to step into the throw (even if Rabach isn't stepping on his foot!) The fact that they don't call many intermediate routes I consider an epic fail under the circumstances, especially on 2nd and long. I'm tired of seeing either the attempt to win the lottery (bomb) or the screen pass where the ball arrives at the same time as the unblocked defender. They've also asked him to change his throwing mechanics. My old violin teacher always told me that if you don't like the mechanics of the way someone plays, but they get good results out of it, you DON'T change it. Hopefully the Shanahans will let McNabb throw the ball his way. I wouldn't be surprised if the attempt to change his motion is part of the reason he is generating poorer results. |
Re: Mcnabb appears to be done and he is the reason for this loss
Being an avid fan for 50 yrs, the Skins have too many issues besides the play of McNabb. Year in and year out, new coaches come in, new offensive coordinators come in, offensive linemen are still at a premium, and same wide receivers that either dont run good patterns or seldom get open. No matter who comes in, it all starts at the O-line--period. If there is no protection, not even P Manning can be effective. Any time a whole new system is put in place, historically it takes at least half a season just to become familiar with it and how many coaches and systems have the Skins gone thru the last 10 yrs? Until mgmt can find good OFF linemen, be creative with an offensive system, find receivers that can get open, they will continue to be a bad team. In simple terms, why was it that former GM Bobby Beathard always found good talent and nobody since can do that? That is another biggy because the Skins must bring in knowledgeable football people that can find talent instead of spending Danny's millions and think they can make a team from high priced, underachievers. The entire organization since Snyder took over has been a disgrace.

Welcome. You'll find that there are a lot of people here that will agree with your sentiments. I think we're on the right track, because I see Shanahan as a good offensive line talent evaluator, and Bruce Allen has connections to make things happen. I think the Trent Williams pick was indicative of this. |
Re: Mcnabb appears to be done and he is the reason for this loss
Who knows, look at McNabb through his career- when has he ever said the wrong thing?? He is overly PC and wont say what it is. Just like when they benched him in Philly for Kolb against Balto. and he watched and smiled as Kolb threw a pick 6 i think it was and stuck up the place. I also noticed when he wears his hat backwards all is well but forwards something is the bother. What a mess. Shanahan also wont be able to speak honest about his intentions.
Ohh, I wanted to add this link which if anyone saw during the game Kyle and McNabb not on the same page. D.C. Sports Bog - What was Kyle Shanahan saying on the sidelines? |

I noticed that during the game, wonder if he ran the wrong play, wrong formation, or what exactly.

Re: Mcnabb appears to be done and he is the reason for this loss
Looks like he is saying "whose that inside". As most the commenters said, he doesn't look particularly upset.

Yeah probably nothing, in hindsight everyone is jumping over every little thing that went down that day.

Re: Mcnabb appears to be done and he is the reason for this loss
You know what I hope is going on is this:
*this might be somewhat far fetched* Maybe McNabb isn't exactly doing what he should. When Kyle Shanahan was getting uber-upset on the sidelines, i thought he was saying what play is that. It's been suggested by some "insiders" that McNabb isn't really doing what they want and making some bad decisions. While McNabb is an ultra-professional, maybe he is just doing his own thing a little bit and playing too loose. Shanahan, instead of coming out and saying McNabb isn't running the plays we are calling and is making terrible decisions, comes up with a complete bull reason as to why he wasn't in there - the two-minute drill. This is so McNabb doesn't get discredited by the media, Shanahan takes all the heat for the decision, and it gives McNabb a golden opportunity to sharpen up with a BYE week without any media scrutiny. This in turn makes it look like the exact opposite of what's going on: Shanahan is actually really protecting his QB and not throwing him under the bus and telling him get it right or you are out. Otherwise, this is a cluster-****! |
Re: Mcnabb appears to be done and he is the reason for this loss
I think Mike Shanahan was pissed about the INT and pulled McNabb but didn't want to admit to making a such a rash decision
|
Re: Mcnabb appears to be done and he is the reason for this loss
Well McNabb is trying to get used to being on the Redskins. So give him time. Time is all he needs.

I agree with the Bears fan. I'm still trying to get used to it too! :D The system is a total 180 from Reid's offense. He WILL settle in and still has the talent to succeed. |
Re: Mcnabb appears to be done and he is the reason for this loss
I just saw where former Philly receiver Freddie "FredEx" Mitchell weighed in on the McNabb situation, saying that he agreed with Shanahan's decision.
Mitchell, another former eagles player who criticized McNabb's work ethic and practice habits while in Philadelphia, said that The eagles could have won the superbowl if McNabb wasn't so slow and lethargic directing the 2 minute offense in that game. Here is a quote from the article: “I respect both Coach Reid and Coach Shanahan - they have two total different coaching theories. I can only wonder what would have happened in the Super Bowl if Reid stepped up and said, ‘You know what? You're playing like [expletive], you're benched.' I don't know many coaches that have the balls to do that,” Mitchell said. “He was playing like [expletive] and he should have been benched. … And don't say he doesn't have a record of this; he did the same thing in every single championship game.” Mitchell Rips Ex-teammate McNabb |

I thought this was a interesting parallel:
Ex-NFL QB Jake Plummer is playing a new sport these days - Shutdown Corner - NFL - Yahoo! Sports The grind of playing for an uber-perfectionist like Shanahan wore on Plummer during his time in the Rockies. "I had a coach that, regardless of how well I thought I was playing or how well the majority of fans across the country thought I was playing, it was never good enough for him," Plummer said, not bitter but very matter-of-fact. "And that kind of gets frustrating. "It just seemed like every game I could have completed these four more passes or these five more shots here and it would have been perfect. And that just wasn't my personality... But Shanahan wanted perfection and he wore a lot of us down there." Plummer didn't sound surprised by the current circus unfolding in Washington, D.C., between Shanahan and Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb(notes). "I think Shanahan is still searching for John Elway," Plummer said. "Somehow, someway, he thinks there's going to be another guy like John Elway. "He coached a team to almost perfection [with Elway] so he wanted that again, he wanted that every time we went out there. It's just not realistic." |
