^ wow JL at 10, may happen
I will :vomit:if we reach for Locker at 10. Allen could trade down 10-15 spots, adding another 2nd rounder, and still get Locker later in the first round if Shanny's that in love with the guy.

If they want Locker the issues becomes wether or not he'll be available if/when they trade down.

I've been saying for a while that if Shanny likes Locker enough to want to even consider moving down for him, draft him. This isn't like other drafts where players and future picks will be thrown around, not to mention that teams can't pick up a handful of undrafted FA's afterwards. If you feel he's not good enough for 10th overall, then just pass.. Because remember, this guy was ranked #1 going into the season, so he has the pedigree. *I can tell you right now that after going back and looking at a lot of games from both Gabbert and Locker, Locker is undeniably the more impressive player. Now with all of that being said, please draft Julio Jones :headbange. |

Weather that be Dalton or Ponder. Ideally I would like to take Quinn at 10 and Dalton or Ponder (Dalton today) at 41, but I don't think that Dalton will last that long. Ponder on the other hand I feel will be available. If they like Locker as much as last year then I would support Locker at 10 and Jurrell Casey (NT USC) at 41. Guy would have to add 10 or 20 pounds but he's capable of manning the nose and keeping blockers off our linebackers. In fact if it came down to it I would much rather have Casey then Taylor. |

I also change my mind. Here's how I would draft for the Skins today. My goals for the draft are as follows. First identify a potential franchise QB that will bring stability to the games most important position. I also wanted to add a front 7 player (DE, OLB, or NT) to help with the switch to the 3-4. In the later rounds I had a couple more objectives. First add at least one lineman to help feed the teams current pipeline that includes Cook, Kory L, and Capers. I was also interested in adding a receiver that if worst comes to worst could possibly contribute on special teams. Finally I wanted hedge my bets at RB and add two late round picks that could compete to be the next hidden gem under Shanahan. Also was interested in adding a LB (Outside or Inside) to at least provide depth for a unit that will field 4 players on most down. In all the picks I was interested in adding high character hard working guys that would buy in to the Skins Team First concept. 10 (R1) Jake Locker - QB - Washington - I believe the Redskins O-Line will be significantly improved this year so long as they're able to resign Brown and get Davin Joesph as a Free Agent. That would give Locker something he never had in 4 years at Washington, a solid Offensive Line that can give him time in the pocket. With his physical skillset, work ethic, and tutelage under Shanahan the skies the limit. His ability to throw outside the pocket may be second to none (70% passer outside the tackles). 41 (R2) Jurrell Casey - NT - USC - Short squaty nose tackle that may be under weight on draft day for a Nose Tackle (currently 300 pounds). Still plays the run very well, plays hard, and is a solid character guy. Also capable of getting a little bit of a push on the pass rush. 144 (R5) Darvin Adams - WR - Auburn - Auburn wide receivers coach Troop Taylor has said that Adams practices at game speed and needs to be slowed down when the team practices in shells. Hard worker that gained five pounds during the 2010 off-season. Has said that he wants to execute every play and help teammates get open when he doesn't get the ball. 155 (R5) Stefen Wisniewski - C - Penn State - Hard working technician that can hopefully entice the team to replace Rabach. 177 (R6) Evan Royster - RB - Penn State - Tough back with good to great vision (reports vary). Has a good reputation as a pass blocker. Rushed for a 1,000 yards each of the last 3 years. 213 (R7) Jonas Mouton- OLB - Michigan High motor player. Former Captain. Decent coverage ability for an OLB. Lack of top end speed might keep him from turning the corner at the next level. 224 (R7) Ryan Whalen - WR - Stanford - Good size and former walk on that went on to be one of the teams better receivers. Does a good job of fighting for jump balls. Not a deep threat. Likes to run block. 253 (R7) Damien Berry - RB - Miami - Hard worker capable of playing special teams. Don't know to much about him as a runner, but I do know the skins have met with him in some capacity so maybe they see something. |

144 (R5) Mark Herzlich - LB - Boston College - Hard worker. Cancer survivor. Can possibly play ILB or OLB in 3-4. Works hard on 3rd down when rushing the passer. Not sure if he'll be available at this point in the draft but apparently there are concerns about his durability beyond his cancer scare. 155 (R5) Stefen Wisniewski - C - Penn State - Hard working technician that can hopefully entice the team to replace Rabach. I think talent wise Brown is the better pick but Harris has an advantage when it comes to age. Both now know the system. In my defense though I only missed one 7th round (213) pick unless ESPN.com is wrong. I'll edit the post in a moment. Probably will have to abandon one of my objectives of adding a LB. |

I fixed it. Decided to hedge my bets on adding a decent sized receiver to, unlike a certain EVPOFO though I didn't do it at the top of the draft. Still was able to find a decent linebacker/Special team prospect. All players in my mock have a reputation as hard working/high motor players. Also hopefully avoided selecting a player 2 or 3 rounds after they're projected to be selected (*cough* Casey Matthews 5th Round *cough*). |

Re: 2011 NFL Mock Draft thread.
Steve Wisniewski isn't lasting that long..
I'd venture that he could lasts longer. For starters none of us thought last year that Bruce Campbell would last until the fourth round. Last year also saw tackles Kyle Calloway and Selvish Capers fall to the 7th round. Calloway I believe graded out as a 3rd or 4th round guy while some of us wouldn't have even batted an eye if Capers had gone in the 2nd. In 2009, AQ Shipley, ironically a Center out of Penn State graded out as a mid round prospect. He ended up going in the 7th round. Also in 2008 we had center Steve Justice out of Wake Forest who I believe graded out as early as the second round. He ended up being a 6th round comp pick. Personally from what I've read both Shipley and Justice were more highly regarded coming out then Wisniewski. So in conclusion I believe it's entirely possible that a guy like Wisniewski could easily last until the 7th round. If I remember correctly I took him at the bottom of the fifth. |

Lack of top end speed might keep him from turning the corner at the next level. 224(R7) Mike Smith - OT - Nebraska Versatile and athletic tackle. Missed 2010 due to a broken leg. Don't know to much about him as a runner, but I do know the skins have met with him in some capacity so maybe they see something. Notes: Would love for the team to either trade up into the fourth round or trade back and pick up a 3rd or 4th round pick. Doing so would allow them to draft Bilal Powell (RB, Louisville) who is said to have top notch vision. Was tempted to put Jerrell Powe in the 5th round as he's graded as a 6th round pick by ESPN but most other draft sites have him as a 3rd or 4th round pick. Personally I'm going to stay on the safe side and say he goes in the 3rd or 4th. Also considered drafting Andrew Jackson (G, Fresno State) in the 6th round. He's a tall, tough, and athletic technician that had offseason back surgery in 09 and an ankle injury that held him to just 4 games in 2010. Liked Karl Klugg (DE, Iowa) in the 5th round as well. He has great speed for a player his size but his struggles stopping the run made me shy away from him. Jacquizz Rodgers (RB, Oregon State) was an interesting consideration for the 5th round as well. He has very good vision, quickness, and runs hard. He also contributed in the passing game. Might be drafted a little earlier then our 5th round pick but also might fall due to height 5'5 (7/8). If Marvin Austin is there in the Second Round when we pick I would also consider him but I have my doubts about him being there at 41. |

Also, with no CBA in place there are also no UDFAs
I understand that there won't be any UDFA signings right after the draft but eventually there will be. Plus I already had that little explanation for Damien Berry and I didn't want it to go to waste. My Mock, in all it's genius, is more of a hybrid of what I think will happen and what I would do. More of what I would do in the later rounds and a little more of what I think might happen in the early rounds. Though I will admit this latest mock from top to bottom is mostly what I would do. Not sure if anything I said makes sense to anyone but me. Nah it probably makes perfect sense. The inspiration I've conjured up from the Mallet thread has me thinking more clearly then ever thanks to a white powdery substance. |

It's not his mediocre play. It's his rare physical skill set. His ability to push the ball down field and extend plays. His experience running plays off play action. His accuracy outside the pocket (over 70% completion percentage outside the tackles). His mobility that will allow him to buy extra time. Also I think you're reaching on the poor leadership skills. The average production and the accuracy problems are valid concerns but character wise the guy is about as good as it gets. Per ESPN:
Outstanding competitor. Shows no fear. Will hang in the pocket and take the hit in order to deliver the ball on time. Teammates have tremendous respect for him as a leader. Proved numerous times in 2010 that he will play through injury.

Drafted twice by MLB teams and signed a six-year rights agreement in 2009 with Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, who are paying his scholarship costs. Hard worker. Teammates and coaches have nothing but praise for him as a person and player. Determined to succeed.
Most importantly above all, the guy who knows QB's (Shanahan) is reported to love him as a potential QB for this offense. Personally I think Lockers a bad fit for 90% of the league. However he has the intangibles and physical skill set to succeed and his combination of mobility and arm strength alone make him a great fit for a team that wants to run passes off of bootlegs and play action. |

he successfully managed a game against a significantly better nebraska team that had walked through them earlier in the season. he also has something that cannot be coached, toughness. he wants to win as much as anyone, and is definitely motivated to succeed. My rankings for these quarterbacks are: 1. Newton 2. Gabbert 3. Locker 4. Mallett 5. Dalton 6. Ponder 7. Kaperneck 8. Stanzi and there is really so little seperating most of these players, nobody can really tell who will end up the best. |
Per ESPN: Most importantly above all, the guy who knows QB's (Shanahan) is reported to love him as a potential QB for this offense. Personally I think Lockers a bad fit for 90% of the league. However he has the intangibles and physical skill set to succeed and his combination of mobility and arm strength alone make him a great fit for a team that wants to run passes off of bootlegs and play action.
If being able to run and passing the ball down field was all that was required of a qb Mike Vick would be the best qb in league and Jake Locker isn't have as talented as Vick. Jake Locker is poor leader because he doesn't make the players around him better. Jake Locker had a 55% completion percentage last year and that is not good at all. Jake Locker went up against mostly second and third tier teams and still didn't produce any big numbers or wins. There is nothing rare about his skill set. Cam Newton and Colin Kaepernick both possess the same skill set that on differences those guys are true leaders and better players. MS can love this kid all he wants. Remember this was the same guy that traded a second rounder and our fourth rounder this year for DMAC who he know longer wants on the team. Plus that was last year when people kinda of like Locker. What has he came out and said about Locker lately? |

Ryan Mallett is definitely a quality passer. In my opinion he's the best qb in this draft. |
Re: 2011 NFL Mock Draft thread.
but he's also a statue, something that the league as a whole seems to be moving away from when it comes to QB's.

When ghosts appear in your house and ask you for loans, they are poor presences. |
Re: 2011 NFL Mock Draft thread.
You can't be serious? What is it about Jake Lockers mediocre play through his career that would merit him going 10th overall? Was in inaccurate passing, poor presences, poor leadership skills, poor completion percentage, or mediocre winning percentage?
Why so serious? What is about Jake Locke'rs great play in lifting an 0-12 team to a bowl game win that you don't see? Was is his ability to make bigtime throws in key situations and outstanding accuracy outside the pocket and on the move, 'great presences', elite arm strength and playmaking ability, quick release, great leadership skills, tunring around an entire football program?
