Isn't Brodney Pool a better player than Meriweather? They're the same age.

I would consider them on the same level. As long as they aren't trying to chase down Javid Best.
Right now the biggest need is S, I would look towards the draft with the 3rd rounder and hope to either resign Atogwe or Landry, possibly convert Barnes to S.
Kevin Barnes has played both free safety and strong safety. Whether he or Byron Westbrook plays safety, it would benefit the defense. Plus Gomes, while taking the time to develop, has had his experience playing both of those positions also.

It would benefit the defense, if Kevin Barnes wasn't a twig with legs that can hardly tackle. Why not draft a safety to play safety?

Perhaps they will draft a safety or get one in free agency. But Barnes played the position well in 2010 when the Redskins had injuries, he did a good job. He actually picked off a pass playing deep in the defensive backfield.

Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker

The absolute last thing we want to do is go into the season with Gomes and Reed/Barnes as our safeties. We had bottom 5 safety play in the league last year period. Improvement is key. We need to look to the draft and FA to improve at both safety spots. Reed and Barnes should not be on the roster come August, both are horrible.

No, dreams are awesome, it is reality that sucks in this situation!

Didn't Meriweather do terrible in New England & Chicago the last 2years, was benched & then cut?

... or is my mind just making that up?

I remembered reading that some people were surprised he was cut from NE. I don't think he was great, but I think it was a bit of a head scratcher.

I wish they would take a look at Reggie Nelson too.

So... no corner help?

I guess there's the draft where we can grab one in the 3rd/4th then cross our fingers & hope they aren't terrible...

Anyone missing Justin Tryon now? lol

Tracy Porter? I wouldn't mind bringing in Trufant despite the age and injuries. When he's healthy, he's good.

Litto Sheppard? Maybe get him out of the disfunctional Raiders and he could help us out a little? Or Porter, Trufant though is getting older AND often injured, not a great combo.

For strong safety help what about Zbikowski from the Ravens? Hard hitter, good nose for the ball and does some nice things on special teams (however I am a total ND junkie so you should take anything I say about players from there with a grain of salt the size of a VW bug)

I really dont see this a too much of a bad thing. undersized Corner and with a secondary which was as horrific as the Lions letting him go? not a great endorsement. We could find a better CB in the 3rd round if we dont take a flippen WR with it. There is good depth in the draft at CB

Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker

Eric Wright has been an underachieving #2 corner for the Browns and Lions. With all due respect, why would anyone want him? Better options from older plays on shorter contracts, who happen to be better.

My 8 year old just asked me if the Amazon River freezes. No effing clue, but at least it wasn't a question about LaRon Landry.

He was benched/cut because he liked to freelance too much which is kinda like a certain safety we know of right?

Dead on NC. undiscipline and inconsistant player. Even though it would be better than anything than we already got, which is nothing...better, more affordable choices. Merrieweather is a Me player ie D Hall, Laron

imo we have to atleast pick up a safety or cb in FA, we can use our 3rd on the other come April

Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker

We don't need to address every position in this free agency market as of now. We can still draft a lot of good corners and guards and a safety. I am not sold on anyone that seems to be left. Unless you can get them for a reasonable price, which because they are corners probably won't work out. Draft the kid from montana as a safety/corner who might be there or the guard from Midwestern State. Also Webb from baltimore might be available if the Ravens can't get a contract and they have money issues right now. They probably will resign him though but crazy stuff does happen. We aren't going to be instant superbowl contenders so we can be patient enough now where we don't need to address every single issue this year. As long as Mike has a plan which he seems to I believe we will be better in the long run.

Ruhskins 03-14-2012 08:50 AM

People need to chill with the CBs, I am sure we will get one. But right now safety sould be a slightly higher priority. I don't want to go with Doughty and Gomes as our starting safeties.

I was really hoping for him.

It's no shock that TB is taking all of the big-contract players from us, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. We're making some very smart moves so far, getting solid guys whose skills fit he team perfectly (Garcon/Morgan).

We do need secondary help desperately though and I've always been a fan of Wright.

TB needs secondary help more than us though, they have Talib and Tanard Jackson, who can't stay out of criminal/disciplinary trouble.
