The Redskins are limited in spending money. We really don't need a whole lot. I'd rather see them move DeAngelo Hall to FS and draft a young CB.

1. Davis could be franchised correct ? he was in beast mode pre injury & learned a lot from Cooley
2. Byrd would be great, if that little thing inv 18 mil gets resolved
3. A.Smith WTF .. not nearly enough respect to our o line

it will be interesting this off season

The Redskins gave Garcon a ton. Byrd won't be any different. Whatever it takes to make the defense better than it is. Of course had Tanard Jackson not been suspended the entire year, Byrd's name would not have come up.
I actually really like that list aside from idonije
He's a solid player. I like the whole list with Keller IF Fred leaves. I honestly don't think we need a superstar TE with RGIII now throwing the ball. He's made Paulsen look just as effective as Davis. Cooley and Davis were great to have when our WR corps were in the dumper and we had one of he worst QB situations in the league, but RGIII can spread the ball around and make everyone effective, at least when they can catch the ball, Leonard.

I like the move of NOT keeping Fred and his overpriced salary. Between injuries and suspensions, he hasn't been worse the price we've been paying. When on the field, he's been a star, but that hasn't been enough. I like Paulsen and another serviceable TE like Keller holding down the fort at TE.

Niles Paul can go too. Experiment over, although he's a special teams beast.

can andre smith waltz around in our blocking scheme?

i have to admit, i haven't watched any tape on him, but i remember his rookie year on hard knocks, he had a massive rack. i wouldn't expect him to fit our scheme.

Andre Smith is more of a power-blocking scheme o-lineman and he's built for that (335 lbs.)

bleacher report is terrible.

vollmer is a better RT, we don't need 2 safeties, and our #1 TE should be davis (though keller is one of two fallback options).

If we're tight on cash skip RT and look at hall or london to restructure or get cut (only if the money is needed and we have a viable replacement).

I doubt he hits the market, but if byrd is there, you gotta try to get him in.

As long as the RT is serviceable, that's all that matters. I'm willing to bet Mike Shanahan may draft a RT in the 3rd or 4th round to stabilize the RT position. A free agent will probably do, but a solid RT can be found in the draft.

Our franchise QB is coming off of a second major knee surgery and you don't think we should strengthen the o-line?

I thought that Polumbus played well late in the season and the Skins are high on Tom Compton, as well. Compton could compete for the starting job at RT in training camp. Based on the expected development of those two players, RT could be a stronger position next season.

Our franchise QB needs to learn how to slide, that has nothing to do with the o-line IMO.

Thats how he got injured this time, but he could get hurt in the pocket too. I agree with Mbender - we need to sure up the right side of the line. Coming off his second major knee injury, his protection should be priority one. Even if the oline can only help him when he isnt out in front of them so be it. When he is out in front of them -hell yeah he has to learn how to slide! Lol.

In defense of the link, it mentions that Vollmer is a better RT, just that he has a feeling that Smith will end up here, and that he also has really good and quick feet for a big guy. He also mentions that Delmas is a fall back option if we can't get Byrd. Keller is also mentioned as an option if we can't re-sign Fred.

Re: 2013 Free Agents

Im still lobbying for Brandon Albert over all lineman that will be out there. Vollmer would be solid too. Not interested in Andre Smith personally hes being let go because of his play not a salay cut his contract wasn't big I guarantee it.

Also... Tell me Dwayne Bowe wouldn't be an awesome fit. He's really matured and developed into consistent borderline at times elite receiver. He'd do well here. Goodbye Morgan.

It seems to me that a lot of us either don't value Polumbus, or we underestimate him. He truly had a wonderful season. Re-signing him for another $700,000 contract would be more cap friendly than signing that guy from New England anyways.

GWinSkins83 01-15-2013 07:46 AM

Re: 2013 Free Agents

If you notice the Seahawks and 49ers they give their QBs 5 good seconds in a great pocket. And if Wilson or Colin reads man they have the a whole field of green infront of them. They can basically pickup 10 yards each scramble with no one around them. Its their Oline that makes that possible. Sorry but Polumbus needs to be a backup not a starter. I seen dude just get lifted off the turf to many times for my liking.

Smith is big but very athletic for his size. He can excell in this system. Its not how big you are its can you block in space, quick to the second level, and can you block on the move. Andre Smith can do those things.

I didn't say that, but I think it can be done without spending big on a free agent. It hasn't been Shanahan's style to spend big on the line outside of left tackle.

Also, it's worth pointing out he got injured outside of the pocket, both with his knee and with the concussion.

That would be a ton of cap space dedicated to your top WRs. Garcon is already the top dog here.

He wouldn't be an awesome fit Vinny. He is still not consistent and comes with all the wrong attitude.
"While Bowe tries, and often tries too hard, he comes across as unreliable, difficult to read and consumed by ego," Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star wrote Monday. "Bowe is good, but he's not elite. Too many drops. Flawed route-running. Having no idea how his words sometimes make him sound. He should've hoped for, but not expected, a monster payday, and now he'll have to wait several months for another swing."
Thank you. The only thing Bowe is "consistent" at, is being inconsistent. No way would I drop big money on this guy. (even if I'm the Chiefs)

Re: 2013 Free Agents

Redskins just signed Garcon to a bid deal, why would they sign another big name receiver who obviously would demand a lot of money.

As far as tackles go, a lot of these upcoming free agents will be franchised or resigned by their teams. They are all pretty much under 30 years old, which means if they are let go they will demand a 10+ million dollar per year contract. You can sign 3 or 4 essential role players for that much money. Plus this is one of the best years to draft a tackle if you need one. But it is the redskins and even during Shanahan's tenure you know they will make one big off season splash.

JoeRedskin 01-15-2013 09:21 AM

Re: 2013 Free Agents

If they do make "one big splash", I hope it is for Byrd.
