Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
BHA makes some excellent points. Only thing I'd add, as a devil's advocate sort of thing, is that historically, the NFL has been good at "figuring out" offenses when given time, especially "gimmick" offenses. Fortunately, I think the Pistol formation is so multi-dimensional, especially with the players we have that run it, that it will be MUCH more difficult to figure out than the... Wildcat, for instance. I wouldn't even call the Pistol a gimmick offense. But the point is that even if all the players stay the same, and they learn the playbook even better, there's still a chance that some cunning DC's around the league could use gametape from last year to stop - well, slow down - the offense.
1st, I echo that BHA's post encapsulated how I feel. 2nd, to your devils advocate point, I do think that the NFL defenses, particularly division rivals, will do better. If you look at our 2nd game against each, I think you saw we had to play a different style in order to gain the same points for example the first game against Dallas we lit them up through the air, but the 2nd time was more running. But, there are two parts to the equation - our offense also should run at a faster pace with everyone having a 2nd year in it, and Kyle and Mike get an offseason to add to it, tweak it, and adjust to what the defenses saw. I hope that our offense should be more error free, even more creative and thus even more productive! |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
I am also glad they aren't willing to push alot of money down the road, its a bad move. Especially for a team that still needs alot of pieces.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
The zone read option is here to stay. As long as a team has a strong running game- an offense can incorporate the zone read option because one makes the other stronger (running game and zro).
Props to FO for pulling this off, I was really nervous about Moss getting cut but now I'm relieved. Now we have to focus on Lorenzo and Davis.
Ditto. I didn't want to lose Moss...he was key in the RZ and on 3rd-4th down all year. I was re-watching the TB comeback win last night...the last drive...Moss and Davis were huge. Now, onto keeping Fred and Zo. If I had to pick one of them, I'll keep Alexander, but we can't afford to lose both. |

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
If we dont lock up a top corner FA ASAP we will be starting a rookie this Sept.
Talib seems to be the best one out there now....get 'er done! |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
how the f*(ck-y can we afford Talib? How is that possible?

Isn't that what people said with Garcon last year. |
Sounds good.
I'm happier about the Davis update. As long as Talib stays on the field and out of trouble...upgrade over Hall. He and Wilson will be a solid combo with Minnifield hopefully coming back earn to the nickel spot. Now we just need safeties. |

Well remember when the rumor was Vincent Jackson was our guy last year, then Garcon was signed? Who is the Cornerback we are not talking about? Our Cap situation wasnt as close as it is this year. |

Not saying those previous things WILL happen, just that it's in motion.

Load up the first year with really easy to attain bonuses. It can be done, just have to be creative, and need a willing player to go along with it. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Talib makes sense to happen here, but I still think this is a smokescreen to get Toler and Biggers.

We have not had good success with former KU first round draft picks as FA. |

You raise me a Dana stubblefield, I raise you a John Riggins. Talib could be that deciding factor |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
IMO- We have to make adjustments to the offense to insure that there isn't a significant drop off when RG3 is not there. That means upgrading the team with speed and playmakers. Losing LA is not a huge loss to me. Special teams players are supposed to be young and work their way into the starting lineup. An older ST player is a luxury we can not afford and as much as I like Lorenzo's personality he is too slow in space to be a starter.
If I was an armchair GM I would seek to sign a Vet who can teach the secondary that we draft. I would look into a player like Charles Woodson or a Talib. On offense I would sign Chris Rainey. I'm not sure about these CB coming severe knee injuries because of the work they do in open space. In the draft I am targeting: Terron Armstead David Amerson or Jordan Poyer Robert Alford Tyrann Mathieu Johnathon Cyprien Duke Williams Ray Ray Armstrong Shamarko Thomas Marquis Goodwin or Denard Robinson Matt Furstenburgh Players with playmaking ability. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
I like the Chris Rainey idea, speed is our friend.

Agreed. Fortunately for us there are TONS of them in this years draft at the DB position, and a few at WR (didn't see Tavon Austin in your list) |

because Austin isn't falling to us |

Only because it would be a pipedream to think he would fall that far to us. |

Last thing I want on this team is a bunch of head cases to screw up the locker room. If Rainey can't do what he's supposed to with a strong veteran Steelers team, I don't want him. |

Ah gotcha, good point. Well, speak of the devil, Seahawks are planning on releasing Leon Washington per Schefter.(https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/311555490524053504) I feel like Washington would be perfect for how we used Banks in the pistol last year? |

I second this notion. Speed may be our friend, but headaches should not be... |

Well you're negative about most things so we'll believe it and you can just pout in a corner. ;-) |
A lot of TE's are being snapped up so that should help the Skins with Davis

according to schefter on twitter we resigned sav rocca
sorry didn't catch the other post. wish we went younger through late draft pick or FA kicker with rocca coming off injury and a so-so season |
As mentioned above the Rocca deal is done!
