Re: Steelers @ Redskins (Pre season game 2)

Tyler Polumbus is painful to watch play RT. The reason he still has a job, much less a starting one at a key position for a division winning team, is completely beyond me.

I feel we need a lot of help and great play from or RT and secondary to even compete.

Re: Steelers @ Redskins (Pre season game 2)

I know they're considered completely different positions, but I think Compton looks better as a LT than Polumbus does at RT. Maybe we can move Compton to RT and see how he fares.

Re: Steelers @ Redskins (Pre season game 2)

I think the way our line is built all the players are interchangeable to a certain degree but we will get Rob hurt in a half of football if Polumbus and Co. at RT don't get it together.

Re: Steelers @ Redskins (Pre season game 2)

For people bitching about Polumbus, what are they expecting when he's left alone to block Lamar Woodley? He is what he is...I would fault Kyle for leaving him out there by himself. Pittsburgh is always going to have strong pass rushers on the edge. That's what they're known for. The rookie on the other side looked pretty good too.

Agreed on both points but ffs Polumbus is just terribad.

They seem pretty set on developing Compton at LT. Can't recall seeing much of Pashos yesterday. Thought he might give Polumbus a bit of a push. The wild card in all of this is Mo Hurt. He's got the versatility and experience to be a valuable back up, but not if he's, well, hurt

Tyler struggled vs the titans in 1 on 1 pass pro. My confidence in him is slipping but I'm sure with the motion blocks of TE's that Kyle uses we can mask his problems till he can get to average mid season form ( just average talent).

Re: Steelers @ Redskins (Pre season game 2)

My frustration with TP is he seems to give up on plays too quickly/easily. Last year and still today, when I watch replays he's not maintaining his blocks on running plays and getting to the second level and on pass protection he flat doesn't move part of the time. He's either got extremely limited abilities or is lazy. Given his lack of effort on rush blocking especially I think it looks like laziness.
Super unlike a shanahan lineman tho. Heard mike s talking about shannys demand for excellence among his players.

WOW, completely thought you were talking about Grossman all the way up to the last sentence. Limited? How? PW looked like RG3 running the scheme minus Mach 2 speed at running. I saw little difference The types of plays Rg3 ran last year and what PW was running in both games.

Grossman on the other hand looked to be running a basic offense, basic drop and throw with a lot less "option". Plus he's as slow as molasses.

Funny that we are only talking about the 3rd QB spot and funnier that everyone seems to have forgotten the attrociousness we call Grossman.

Personally I'll take anyone over Grossman just to make sure he is not in any form an option if they need QB #3. I'm really shocked and suprised we are having this discussion. I knew there were the few Grossman lovers but the amount of beloved support baffles me.

I am not in support of Grossman over Cousins or RGIII. Grossman over PW for the third QB spot? In a heartbeat.

"PW looked like RG3 running the scheme minus Mach 2 speed at running." ... and minus any of the qualities that make an NFL passer. Did you even read the breakdown? The guy can't complete a pass that has to travel more than 20 yards in the air.

PW sucks. Sucks much worse than Grossman. He's barely the equal of Beck or Brennan.

In other words: I hate Grossman so I'm just going to naturally say that anyone is better than him. And I'll make ignorant observations like 'I see Pat White running so that must be the same offense that RG3 was in, because he ran too'. I'll ignore the actual passing element to the offense RG3 was in last year. And I'll overlook that Pat White almost never went through his progressions, while Rex often did. And the fact that Grossman had a much better game against Pittsburgh than White did? Doesn't matter.

To the bolded... Sounds like Tom Brady or Peyton Manning.

I think its safe to say that if we are relying on Grossman or White as a starter that we are in trouble. Its the third string QB. Neither are going to win consistently against starting defenses.

WHat planet are you watching games from? Haha. PW is NOT running the same offense Bob runs. He runs the option aspect of it, albeit not as well but pretty good, but does not run the pass-offense at all. That's somewhat important since the two together make it all work.

They run the system that fits the QB and thats called good coaching. If you listened to Gruden the other night he was pretty impressed on how the coaching staff called the plays to match his abilities. He also stated how Grossman was a 2nd string QB that been there and done that sitting in the 3rd spot. Look what other teams have for back up QB's and I think you will see we are better off then most.

Rabach brings back bad memories. He was definitely a head scratcher how he stuck around for as long as he did. He was forever getting pushed back into the QB.

there's generally only one reason bad players stay on rosters/in lineups:

teams don't have better options to replace them with.

if we had money maybe we could have signed vollmer, but we didn't, so pashos and trueblood came in from the vet min scrap heap and haven't shown to be an upgrade at this point, so... we are what we are.

Absolutely, with the cap penalty we took the past 2 offseasons it really hampered our ability to sign big name guys at certain positions of need. That is why we had to either deal with what we have, or try to get improvements through the draft. That is the biggest reason I think Leribeus was a huge mistake in the 3rd round last year. We should have grabbed a right tackle. Anyway, as long as polumbus doesnt get Robert injured this season it will be a success regardless. Then I am sure we will address that position next offseason. Imagine the roster we have now then going into next offseason with some spare cash to sign a couple of probowl caliber players to add!!

If he doesn't stop blowing up in the offseason he won't be around long. That seems to be his problem since highschool, he hits the offseason and does not prepare himself for the next year of football. You can't do that in the NFL it may have been ok in college but that won't fly in the pros.

Yeah if LeRibeus fails us, it will sting worse if Gettis also can't make an impact. I optimistic we will find a starting RT and G in the draft, keep Tyler as a backup, and have competition with Chester. Then have FA to find a LDE, MLB, and S. I am worried enough with Tyler playing, can't really expect any OL injuries to not be a huge blow.

Done with what? talking about the formation our team uses or who should be the 3rd string QB?

So with all the negative comments I got for my praise of PW and negativity towards Grossman I thought I'd go look at the stats.

I guess if I was a fan who only looked at the rating % then most of you would be 100% right. Why?

Grossman: 82.3%
White: 35.7%

However I'm one to believe you have to look at the overall stats for the preseason. Not just the rating %.

Grossman: 54.1% passer rating.
White: 57.1% passer rating.

Ok I'll give RG1 a little credit he got 252 yrds passing while PW got only 53 yrds passing. RG1 got a passing TD while it says PW had zero. But I could have sworn he had a passing TD in the first preseason game and a rushing TD. Perhaps the passing TD was called back for something.

Both had a sack RG1's was 6 yrds, PW's was 5 yrds loss.

Both had an INT.

RG1's longest pass 23 yrds. PW's longest pass was 13 yrds.

So I can see how the RG1 camp is getting that he's better or so they think.

Lets now look at Rushing Yards. What... didn't think I would go there? Don't think the QB should be running or scrambling?

Grossman: 1 ATT. for -7 yrds.
White: 9 ATT. for 53 yrds.

Now 53 yrds does not sound like much but PW had 6.3 yrds per attempt rushing. His longest run was 18 yrds. and he rushed for 1 TD.

So to me in the grand scheme of things PW is not much different then RG1 but has mobility. Which this team needs at QB to accomplish its goal. Which is why I prefer PW over RG1 as the 3rd string QB.

Yep, I'm proven wrong yet again.... thats why PW has a better passer rating. 57% to 53%.

Hello folks the option rely's on a QB who CAN run so the defense does not key on just the RB and WR. RG1 can not run. Proven by his -7 rushing yrds.

P.S. I'll take my chicken dinner.
