I dont see him as being a clown, what do you disagree with? I think he's spot on about RG3,what do you disagree with?
Where he could be wrong is about Morris,by middle of the year teams knew not to under estimate Morris,so I think he's wrong there. But I think he will be right about Morris's production. He will probably still get a 1000 yards but I dont think he approaches last yrs 1600.Without the threat of Rg3 running and the misdirection of the read option he's not going to see the lanes he saw last yr

One of the things I disagree with is this.

"Defenses underestimated him but won't this season. Don't be surprised if he gains fewer than 1,000 yards this season. How talented can he be if so many pro scouts didn't view him as a top running back and the Skins didn't draft him until the sixth round?"

Keep in mind, Morris was one of the league leaders in yards after contact. You dont get that by being a terrible back. People stopped underestimating Alfred pretty early on last year. He was not underestimated the entire last half of the season when they won 7 straight.

I also cant stand the rational that if you are selected in the 6th round, then you are terrible football player. Tom Brady was a 6th rounder. Terrelle Davis was a 6th rounder. Joe Jacoby was undrafted back when there were a lot more than 7 rounds. The list goes on.

Because he first discredits RG3 as a passer but not acknowledging thats his strength, and basically says system QB. He says Morris wont be as good because he was picked in the 6th round.

What the hell does underestimating mean? I'm pretty sure if "underestimating" was even a think, teams stopped doing that last year around week 4.. Yet Morris went on to break a Redskins rushing record, and gashed the Cowboys for 200 yards in week 17 when RG3 could still barley walk.

I do agree that Morris may not have as good of a season as last year, but the way he presented that was pretty stupid. If you make an NFL roster, I'm pretty sure you're not "underestimated".

I mean it's not exactly an edgy opinion to suggest that the Redskins may be in trouble this year. The NFL did its best to give RG3 a homecoming opponent for his return, and they really beat our ass. They got exposed.

I think it's more productive to focus on how a team with more talent than it has had in the last five years can rally and improve over the next few weeks. Maybe they can. Maybe they'll struggle. But if you were going to predict doom for this team, you kind of missed the window where that's a prediction and not an observation.

People were down-ish on this team in the preaseason, but no one I read picked them to finish below Philadelphia.

Hanging on him by the horsecollar. It was a filthy hit.

DHall drives me nuts but I'll give him this - he always knows the right opposing players to target with his shenanigans.

He had a 'great' hit on Vick later in the game. Wasn't dirty but he made sure to finish the tackle, with a little extra rollover at the end. Vick didn't look the same after that hit.

GTripp0012 09-12-2013 07:02 PM

Re: Skins v Eagles post game thread

DHall certainly engages in a lot of gamesmanship, though with regard to the Jackson play, that was not gamesmanship so much as it was making a dirty play to try an injure a guy. At least that's the only logical defense for his play.

We brought Hall back, so we just have to live with the negatives that we signed up for. 1 bad 15 yard penalty down, 6 to go.

Loved that play. Hall likes to punish the opponent, he just doesn't have the speed/agility to cover better receivers and was a gambler from the beginning anyway. That's why I thought FS would be a pretty logical transition.

Getting beat by a team we should have dominated is doom if you do it more than a few times, because we're gonna face X number of teams that are actually better than us (right now). It's what we did in 2010, 2011 and about half of last season. I think the concern is pretty valid.

Like Joeredskin said, offensively you can keep the eagles in check with solid tackling, if you have a QB on defense (we do) and a solid FS (we don't). And we should have been able to put tons of points on that defense.

So you hope it was a combination of RG being rusty early on, Morris' worst game of the season, olines worst game of the season, and worst FS play of the season.

So I guess after one game, it's doom for you then. Do you guys know what doom actually means. That there's NO hope. You guys may be exaggerating a little bit. Do you guys as fans have any heart or are you guys just front runners and with the first experience of adversity you guys think the world is over?

That's what I said earlier about the Redskins- you need to have a warriors mentality and learn either you give up or keep fighting no matter what. Sounds like that saying its doom for Redskins now is giving up way to early. Do I think that was a big loss? Yeah but I'm not giving up like some Doomsday Preppers and I think the redskins aren't either. Real bottomline- the Redskins only lost by 6 points in a game that everyone perceives was a blowout.

... And to those that think that the eagles just softened up at the end and just let the Redskins get close- take a close look at the Eagles defense in the second half. They were blitzing up the middle like there was no tomorrow. I wouldn't describe that as soft.

Sometimes I think you actually believe what you post, and sometimes I think you just post to troll some of the people on these forums that support and enjoy watching D Hall. This time, I can't really tell.

It's obvious when you watch the play that D Hall got out run, and his only chance of making the play was to grab anything he could hold on to.

If you've ever actually played football.. It's not as easy as you think to make a split second choice on when to let go, or when to hold on..

If you actually think D Hall tackled him in that matter to hurt him, then you seriously have observation issues.

We lost one game fella's, and I know it burns a bit but all of you couch coaches talking about how our coaching staff is bad, and we need to replace (insert player who had a bad game here) or RG3 isn't what he use to be..

Well, you guys need to breathe and step off the cliff.. There is 16 games left, and even though it seems like the handful of you want this regime to fail just so you can act like you knew you were not talking out your ass. We are the DEFENDING NFC EAST Champions..

Just saying...

I feel like we need to make a new thread section for all of these guys who have all this roster, coaching, gameplanning, and inside information.

Just call it "The Couch Coach Central"

Make Gtripp and Goat the mods of the thread section so they can negatively speak about how bad the Shanahan's are every week, how D Hall eats little children, and how our O-Line couldn't block a FCS schools defensive front.

I wouldn't need to post in there.. I would just want to continue reading it to get a good laugh every week.

I think your opinion of the Redskins is a little too high. When do we ever "dominate" anyone? Most of our games are close ones. The fans/media are a little too high off last year. We had a nice run but it's a new year. I guess you forgot about how bad Fletcher looked, or how poorly the d-line played... even Kai missed a kick. But time to move on from last week and last year. A win on the road Sunday will cure all....at least for one week!

For starters, this ridiculous statement:
So Griffin will be a passer much more of the time when he doesn't hand it off, making the Skins a more pedestrian offense. They will score fewer points because Griffin won't be scoring them running. Fewer points will translate to more losses.
He has obviously not watched Griffin play. He's just as dangerous of a passer as a runner. Also, look how effective Mike Shanahan's traditional roll-out offense was with Kirk Cousins running it, without the take-off and run ability that Griffin still has. Even if we abandon the option plays completely, which we won't, RGIII rolling out will be a dangerous offense to try to stop. He'll have open receivers and the defenses will still have to respect his legs. Also, instead of trying to run around the end of the line, he'll already be heading down the sidelines and the safety of the out-of-bounds lines after he gets the first down. He'll run that offense to perfection.

Seriously, "fewer points will translate to more losses" sounds like when John Madden said “Usually the team that scores the most points wins the game.”

Look at the Patriots so far this year, fewer points and still unbeaten. Good teams with elite QBs can find a way to win. That's exactly what we are now.

A lot of others have already commented, but since you asked me what I disagree with I will answer. In simplest terms, I disagree with: the whole premise, the headline, the starting sentence, and the closing lines. In between all that is where I see him showing himself as a clown.
Brace yourselves, Washingtonians, for a psychological crash.
Often the title is written by someone other than the writer, so I don't know if he can be faulted for this, but every football fan goes through ups and downs, hi's and low's, even crashes followed by immense emotional joys. It's what draws us to sports and football especially.
The Redskins will disappoint you this season.
Again, I am sure they will in one sense, but not in the larger sense he is trying to propose, it's dumb to think a team that just put 27pts on another team is going to be a disappointment because of 2 offensive players
They got your hopes up last year by capturing the NFC East title. It was the most exciting run the team has had since the glorious Joe Gibbs Super Bowl era that seems like so long ago. Expect lesser accomplishments this campaign. The reasons center on quarterback Robert Griffin III ("RG3") and running back Alfred Morris.
Further, in the last 10 regular/post season games, only twice have the Skins scored 14 or less, while 7 times they scored 27+. And this week they scored 27 when the two stars he is singling out, had admittedly bad games. So, by pointing out why the 2 stars will do worse, maybe we should even take heart that other players, like JReed, Hankerson, and Moss stepped up in the 2nd half. If we presume to acknowledge that Griffin/Morris will by default step back, the potential shown by the "lesser players" in this game should make it even more exciting.
The Redskins and RG3 have been heavily hyped this offseason. But do not expect any Redskins Super Bowl parties -- not even a playoff berth.
Actually, most preseason mags had us ranked 3rd or even 4th in the division, and while as the season drew near, and Griffin started looking to start, alot of media still raised similar questions to what he said here. I would love a Redskins SB Party, but show me any 2 NFL announcers(not named Larry Michaels/Joe Theismann) that put the Redskins in the SB. That said, I disagree, and think it's a clown statement to think that the Skins don't have a reasonable expectation of a playoff berth.

Finally, without nitpicking anymore, I think he's a clown if he bases his whole premise on basically 5-6 bad drives from two players in a game that had 13 drives, and even more so really 2-3 bad exchanges within those drives.

I don't understand all the hate DeAngelo Hall gets. He's not a top-tier corner in the NFL; far from it, actually. But, as of right now, he's our best option at corner and our best defensive back. Would you really rather have Biggers, Wilson, or Amerson covering the other team's top receiver? Hall can be stupid and/or boneheaded, but he also has his good times: shutting Dez Bryant down, picking off 3 passes last season, returning a fumble for a TD in the opener... And he's only making 2.25 million, so he's not preventing us from signing a better corner. He may well be gone after this season, but he's our best corner right now; instead of complaining about him, maybe you should be thankful Wilson or Biggers isn't starting.
