I think Manziel would have no problem running it in the NFL. He's not as fast as RG3 but he's still plenty enough of a running threat where the defense would have to respect him. Like Griffin, he's simply not built like Cam Newton and doesn't protect himself. I doubt he'd last very long.

I think Kyle is more the traditional passer mold preference. Manzeil doesnt fit that.

Neither did RG3 but he had arguably the best rookie season ever for a QB.

I think Kyle has shown the ability to work with different types of QBs.

punch it in 05-08-2014 11:31 AM

I think it has to do with a complete team as opposed to just a qb and an OC. Whether its Kyle with Jonny Football or RG-3 or whoever. You could have an OC coaching up his dream QB and still win 3 games.

Would you do the following deal with Cleveland?

When it's time for Cleveland to pick at 1/26, if there are still one or two players that the Skins grade very highly available (for example, a player such as C.J. Mosley, Hasean Clinton-Dix, or Zach Martin), would you offer them our 2/3 pick and Cousins in order to move up and take the player we want? That would set Cousins' value at approximately 3/25.

Edit: I erroneously typed that we'd trade our 3/2 pick in my original post. I meant to type that we would trade our 2/3 pick. My apologies to all.

So we trade out of the third round but get the #26 pick? Heck yeah I take that deal. 3/25 is a reasonable value for Cousins.

Lotus, I meant to type 2/3 instead of 3/2, so it would be our second round pick. I apologize for my error.

No to our second round pick plus cousins. No way. 4th plus cousins... To move up 8 spots, that's the most I'd give. F that.

Didn't know where to put this, but a nice graphic stat for those who like that kinda thing:

Re: Cousins Open to Trade.

from that, 28 of the 32 teams have invested at least 1 top 3 round pick in a qb in the last 10 years. Teams that haven't:

Dallas
New Orleans
Chicago
Houston

Miami has spent picks in 4 years searching for a qb, and Cleveland 3

Us - 2

The chart is a bit misleading (at least based on your interpretation) because the Texans traded a 2nd round pick on Schaub and Chicago traded 2 firsts for Jay Cutler. That would just leave Dallas and New Orleans.

Am I reading the chart right? Did Miami really spend a 2nd round pick on a QB 3 years in a row? LOL.

No wonder that was such a sweet deal. :)

Then I change my answer to, "depends who is still on the board." If some truly elite talent managed to fall to #26, then I might still make that deal.

One QB who might still be dealt this weekend is Skins backup Kirk Cousins. Browns were willing to deal midround pick for him.

Skins and Browns have not had contact since the original inquiry, but somethings things heat back up during the draft

2nd or 3rd rounder involved or no dice.

Manziel gets the fan base excited again, Cousins would not. I think Clev believes they have a similar player in Hoyer so there was no need to make a trade.

Re: Cousins Open to Trade.

Well, Arizona hasn't picked a QB yet, so maybe they might be willing to make a trade for Cousins?

Re: Cousins Open to Trade.

Houston needs a QB and they can't take Carr given the history with his brother, I can't think that Garrapalo and Mecklenberger are better than Cousins so they might be a trade partner I could also see Arizona wanting him.

Houston is a possibility with their third, Tennessee maybe an option also. I can't really see anyone else being a viable trade partner. I don't think he's got the arm for Arians' system in AZ.

Re: Cousins Open to Trade.

I forgot about Houston. They DO seem like a likely trade partner. Probably more so than Tennessee.

Re: Cousins Open to Trade.

At this point just keep him. I agree with the team's stance that it should not move him unless they get a 2nd rounder. He's a good backup QB and his cap hit is low. Unless we get value back, we shouldn't shoot ourselves in the foot. He has value to us even though he's a backup.

I would trade with Houston, KC and our 3rd rounder for their 2nd???

Re: Cousins Open to Trade.

Why would Houston make a play for Cousins? You guys are grasping. If Houston trades for a QB wouldn't O'Brien get someone he's familiar with? ...like Matt Cassel? Or maybe even Ryan Mallett? It looks like KC is staying put. As I've said all along, we need to have a solid back up behind RG3.

KC is not solid enough for me.

Here's why Houston could be in play..
1. They need a QB. They have Case Keenum, Ryan Fitzpatrick and TJ Yates on the roster right now. John Beck looks at them and giggles a bit.
2. Matt Cassell is the Vikings starting QB, they aren't going to trade him at this point. No way you can invest 7 first round picks over 3 years and go into the season with Christian Ponder and Teddy Bridgewater.
3. Mallett is off the block (reportedly) so the #1 available QB for trade is Cousins.
*EDIT* 4. No way in hell they draft David Carr's little brother. PR disaster whenever he makes a poor play/decision.

Stay or go, I don't care either way because McCoy is pretty much the same QB as Cousins, only older and with more experience. If Houston is willing to give up the 1st pick of the 3rd round for Cousins, see ya dude.

MTK 05-09-2014 03:01 PM

Re: Cousins Open to Trade.

Houston needs a QB, Cousins is available. Pretty simple if you ask me why they might have interest.

Fine. Cousins to Houston. It's be cool to have the first two picks of the second or third round. Make the deal Houston!
KC is not solid enough for me.
Technically RG3 isn't "solid enough". Until he plays a full season healthy, we better have somebody good to back him up. Any ideas?

MTK 05-09-2014 09:44 PM

Re: Cousins Open to Trade.

Didn't RG3 survive 13 starts while recovering from injury last year?

That said KC is certainly solid enough.
Didn't RG3 survive 13 starts while recovering from injury last year?

RG3's a warrior, I just cringe when I see him scrambling, like the talking heads on TV cringe when they see him running the read option. One hit by someone like Ngata even when he's down, and it may be over.

Can't believe RG3 doesn't have more protection aka Brady or Peyton. He gets hit, got straight up kicked in the jewels by Aldon Smith last season, for no penalty. Type cast as a "running QB" whether we read option or not, I fear it'll be open season on him again this season.

I think it's fair to say now (probably months ago) that the market for Cousins is not where the Skins wanted it. At least not to trade him at this point.

Unless we trade him today for Houston' first pick in Rd. 4. There are plenty of good picks here, and the top two picks would be awesome.
