It's so dumb how RG's mistakes are magnified and his visible progession as a pocket passer is minimized, while Cousins' mistakes are minimized and his big plays are magnified. It's like people want to hate our starter, which makes no sense.
So on that note, can we quit the "RG is a bust because he looked bad in a preseason game" crap? Until we see the Houston game, we won't have a good enough look at the guy to make fair judgements.
backup qb has always been the favorite player in this town. it's just the way it is. you have to go out of your way to find quality analysis on him at this point. chris cooley's pretty good, but it's admittedly hard to tell when he's being a homer and when he's giving quality analysis. |
Re: Ravens v. Redskins Gameday Thread
Love how Kap does his RG3 impression on third down and gets no criticizing on his behalf. Not to mention he fumbled.

Re: Ravens v. Redskins Gameday Thread
I think he's mentally out of synch. Confidence is everything (look at Shaub), and those split seconds of indecision are everything. His stutter step hesitation to Morris caused the interception.
I'd say we have the pieces now to compete, we may have a good enough defense to take us into the playoffs if our offense showed up.. Come on, if RG3 could just get the ball to ANYONE (morris, jackson, garcon, roberts, reed) -- we'd be fine. But he's running it out of bounds for losses (!!) and telegraphing passes. Personally I think he runs it out of bounds instead of throwing it away so his completion percentage doesn't suffer, which is sad. I'm just hoping (1) O-line gets better as they play together enough (including M.Moses playing well enough to come in mid-season to solidify the right, (2) RG3 starts to be confident again & not lose games for us. But.. it's only preseason. Let's see what happens.
I agree with everything here except there is no way Griff is padding his stats by making stupid decisions. |

Yea hes just gotta use his instincts and let it rip like he used to. He has been hesitating. But last game he didnt hesitate and he threw the pick to Haden he rifled that one quick. So here we see hesitation, there we see an itchy trigger. Man i hope he shows up week one. Hes had a few good throws he takes heavyyyyy critisim its ridiculous.

Re: Ravens v. Redskins Gameday Thread
It will anger me if the NFL fines and suspends Meriweather for the head-to head hit. I don't think he did anything wrong on the play. He was plenty low but the RB lowered his head at the last instant which is what caused the h-to-h hit.
I think the NFL is doing a terrible job of officiating this rule. The offensive player bears some responsibility for protecting himself, as well. This penalty should be reviewable and if the offensive player contributed to the h-to-h hit then the penalty should be waived. Also, there have been many of these calls that I consider to be incidental. These have mostly involved hits on QB's where the QB's helmet is just grazed or tapped lightly as part of a clean play. Often, the player who is penalized is blocked into the QB. These plays should not be penalized. The worst part of this poorly thought out and officiated rule is that the player who was penalized is invariably fined and suspended. This rule is simply unfair to the defense as it is currently enforced. |

True. My wife claims that the worse they play in preseason, the better they play in the regular season. Years ago, during Gibbs I, the Skins had a horrible preseason. Before the first game, my wife urged me to get Super Bowl tickets, explaining to me what she had observed about the team. I laughed at what she said and I didn't buy the tickets. Sure enough, the Skins went to the Super Bowl that season - in beautiful San Diego, no less. |

Had all day to throw as well. Embarassingly bad. And I don't know how jumping in the air to throw the ball and running out of bounds 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage have anything to do with learning a new system. |

we are who we thought we were.
our pass rush looked great. balt radio talking heads are worried how rak bested monroe and how kerrigan constantly abused their RT with the same move. saying flacco as under pressure the entire half. their O line got no push as evidenced by the 4-1s. our secondary has not been tested yet with vanilla offenses, come regular season i think this is going to be a huge problem leading to many losses. its preseason. |

Re: Ravens v. Redskins Gameday Thread
our secondary = 5 win season.
come regular season, if the pass rush doesnt get there on every play, the secondary will be exposed. its a calculated gamble and defense approach we are taking this season. probably forcing the scheme choice bc of the personnel we have bc we neglected a huge area of need this offseason. play to our strengths (pass rush) and try to minimize the exposure of our weak spot (secondary) isnt the worst approach but it is limited and one dimensional. if we cant consistently create pressure bringing 4-5 guys, we will have a huge problem bc you cant bring 6 or more every down. our achilles heal will be targeted by offensive coordinators come reg season. im not sold on our secondary being serviceable in the reg season bc they werent tested in the preseason. |

Re: Ravens v. Redskins Gameday Thread
I don't see the secondary has a huge issue either. Certainly not when compared to last year.

Re: Ravens v. Redskins Gameday Thread
i ahve to respectfully disagree with you huys re the secondary. i hope i eat crow but ..
paper thin secondary at every single position with the "starters" being below average for starters at every position. hall and amerson = no. 2s, merriweather and clark are probably the weakest starting safety combo in the league. talent wins. time will tell. a few preseason games where the safeties werent tested is false hope imo. ps - did anyone else notice RG3 being the only one not knowing the 1st quarter was running down after he hit roberts for that long 49 yard pass play at the end of the 1st quarter against the browns? im starting to question whether i actually saw it now. |
Re: Ravens v. Redskins Gameday Thread
We really need to remain healthy at safety for the secondary to funtion properly. So far BM and RC have been solid. Now this talk of that bullsh*t helmet to helmet hit could hurt us. Safety depth is still an issue. Rambo has been good, but Phillip Thomas is doing nothing.

video of ngata kicking lauvau .. it was a nudge of a kick but still a kick none the less. ngata admitted to the kick saying he was frustrated etc .. tough spot for goddell. while it was a small kick, how can he not suspend ngata for a game or so to be consistent. you have to make a strict bright line for players doing things post whistle, especially considering lauvau was on the ground in a vulnerable and helpless position and this isnt one of those mutual affray situations where both players are grabbing face mask. |

Lol. We do not have a whole ton of depth in the secondary, but you may want to look around the league. Our starters are certainly not the worst. |
Re: Ravens v. Redskins Gameday Thread
hall is a no 2 at best imo. im not a fan of gauging a players worth by looking at the interest of other GMs but no one wanted to sign him and he came back to us. im not trying to bash hall, he loves the skins, he is the best that we have, plays with heart but his track record is what it is (high completion %, gambler). would hall be a no. 1 on any other team?
amerson - im not designating him below average but he is a no. 2 corner entering this season. he is in his 2nd year, has a ton of time to grow and flourish and has all the tools to be a legit no. 1 at seasons end but ... as of right now, he is a no. 2 at best. would he be any teams no 1 going into this season? imo our starting secondary going into this season is the worst in the league on paper. |
Re: Ravens v. Redskins Gameday Thread
Hall would be a starter on several other teams. Panthers, jags, steelers, raiders, probably a few others imo.

Ironically I think everyone was waiting for this exact situation to emerge. A player receiving a suspension equal to or greater than Ray Rice. Kind of glad to see it happen sooner rather then later, sad though that it was one of our players falling on the sword so to speak. Side note: SMH means 'Send More Ham.' |

Since we know the NFL is pretty much going hard on BM every time he lays the wood, at what point do we decide to upgrade or seek a reliable backup? If Thomas can't go week 1, who starts at safety for us?

Also, Ngata admitted to kicking Shawn Lauvao "in the heat of the moment" during the same game. This is an admission of a deliberate assault. So, why hasn't he been suspended? Oh, never mind.

I cant understand how the league looks at the hit and others and cant see the improvement BM has made trying to avoid the tackle. How can he be responsible when the receiver happens to dip his head lower? just crap. But to your question I would guess Trenton Robinson. Thomas is probably gonna get an injury settlement/waive. I hope we look at cuts at SS and hope BM can appeal with a chance to reduce. I wouldnt surprised if we might give Rambo a shot first at SS. I would be in total shock if we reach out to Doughty. |

Sadly Meriweather is a marked man and will continue to get penalized for nothing, even after this crap.

Re: Ravens v. Redskins Gameday Thread
Well, it is his 7th time? Not surprising the league is gone to suspensions again. The hit on Pierce was definitely the worse of the two in my book. The other one wasn't as bad to me. He led with the shoulder and did what a S should do. Maybe Flacco shouldn't get his WRs killed by throwing shitty passes to guys covered.
edit: Looking at it again, he did go high even though he led with the shoulder. https://d3j5vwomefv46c.cloudfront.net/photos/large/864450652.gif?1408855282 |
