Re: Who is Kirk Cousins?
The only "agenda" I have is for the 'Skins to win games. Right now they are 3-5, most likely on their way to another losing season with a QB that a lot of this fanbase is/was convinced was going to make a huge difference for the offense.

I am not judging Kirk's play against Robert's play. I am judging Kirk's play based on what I see Kirk do. I want him to succeed. If he is who the coaches and management feel is fit for the role, I want him to evolve into "the man" but it doesn't mean he just automatically gets some kind of benefit of the doubt. He is not a 23 year old rookie. He is someone who likely is going to have to show a lot in the 2nd half of the season because a quick decision is going to have to be made on what to do with him going forward as he becomes a free agent.
the huge difference not being Kirk would be a pro bowler but the world of difference being we could move away from the simpleton 1 read passing plays and call actual passing plays based off reading, timing, anticipation, progressions, pocket awareness etc.

you know, all the things every QB in this league can do besides RG3 and johnny manziel.

that with Kirk we could call real NFL passing plays with the Qb taking the right steps and being able to read and deliver the ball with actual progressions.

watching RG3 struggle with the simplest of concepts and having our play calling reduced to simple 1 read johnny manziel type stuff was the world we wanted to move on from.

kirk is the best option available .... and hes actual playing pretty well and its exciting to watch his progression.

the fan base going into this year was hoping to run the ball and stop the run. that is what every coach and scot said would be our brand of football.

unfortunately, we havent ran for more than 51 yards in 4 games now.

We ran for a team total of 37 yards last week.

no one ever said cousins would be a pro bowler. no one ever said cousins is the solution but he has been a bright spot regardless of what a handful of fans think to the contrary. the fact that there are so few of fans with your opinion is positive. it will never be 100%.

this thread is killing me.

Re: Who is Kirk Cousins?

So few fans with what opinion, that Kirk Cousins has been about an average QB in 2015 so far? Where do his statistics put him against his peers exactly? Who said he wasn't the best option on the roster? I certainly didn't.

All I said was that this is likely going to be another losing season and that IMO, Cousins hasn't done enough yet to show he deserves a long term commitment from the organization going forward. It doesn't mean he can/t/won't get better moving forward but it doesn't mean he will either, we will have to wait and see.

The only thing Cousins has done is wait his turn...he hasn't played like he's the answer at the QB position. Far from it...he should remain only for the reasons he was drafted.... and that was for depth purposes....

Re: Who is Kirk Cousins?

I think Kirk's ceiling is an above average QB which is something we haven't had in freaking forever. People saying he's not the answer, do you mean he's not elite? Those type of QBs are few and far between. I'd put him in the top 15 of the league. I can name a handful better (elite) and a bunch you'd have to give me a convincing argument that they are better than him. For example, is Ryan Fitzpatrick better than Cousins?

TheMalcolmConnection 11-10-2015 10:13 PM

Re: Who is Kirk Cousins?

If I sit down and think about mediocre QBs, I want to lump him in there, but then I also think of a few plays that I'm like, "Damn, that's impressive." Personally, I think if Russell Wilson wasn't mobile, he would compare favorably to Kirk Cousins at this point in his career.

Are you kidding me? Kirk Cousins had the lowest score of any player in the league after the week 5 loss to the NYJ....

I'll also clarify, this is not based on past performance, this is based on right now. If you you think about starting QBs in the NFL right now (judging ONLY on this season) how many are better if you throw out history?

He has 10 TDs, 9 INTs, 1,954 yards passing, a 66.% completion score....and a 82.9 QB RATING.....

These are average numbers at best... at the rate he's going he will end up having 20 TDs and possibly 19 or 20 INTs and 3500 yards....this is on par with the playing ability of a second string quarterback...Cousins is simply not starting material....a quarterback like this will undoubtedly and greatly contribute to a NFL team's 5-11, 6-10, or 7-9 record....

Who expected better this year? AND it is largely been served with half of his starting cast watching from the sidelines. Yet, he shows definite positive signs and signs of evolution. I just meant as far as using pff as a source. However I respectfully disagree with ur take on colt vs KC. Are you not the least bit hopeful after the last two weeks - especially a game in foxboro where if not for the drops he woulda had a real good game - that KC has turned a corner?

How easy do you think it is as a second year qb with one start under ur belt to come off the bench and look good on a shit team like the 2013 Redskins?
He has made some real strides this year and was missing his number one wr, and his go to guy Reed for a while. He has zero run game behind him.

I'd say somewhere between just a guy and the Matt Ryan range. Superstar? That might be pushing it a bit.

We just need to let it play out. Either let the legend grow, or back to the draft/ drawing board. Not sure about the rest of you, but I'm really rooting for this to work out. I seriously don't have the patience to start over with a rookie. Or bring in a journeymen while a rookie sits and watches... a la Cleveland.

Those numbers are pretty close to Joe Theismann's numbers his first year starting under Joe Gibbs.

I would say that I would take Cousins over Bradford, maybe Taylor and Romo, but the with Romo it is because I am unsure of the caliber he will be when he comes back. Taylor I will confess ignorance with, he certainly is better in the right statistics.

The short answer that sums up the entire situation is we can't plan on hitting the gas station scratcher and getting a HOF QB to win.

It really doesn't matter then who Kirk is.

Like the Pats and Seattle, whether you have a star or not, smart teams are always trying to find talented QBs.

The idea that once you have "the guy" the QB search stops is a myth.

From a draft, FA standpoint, we should always be looking for an upgrade at every position. In that context, it doesn't matter what Kirk is, we still need to be looking for an upgrade. It's just the nature of the league.

I do think Kirk is going to be a serviceable NFL QB.

At the beginning of the year everyone thought we were set at RB, including myself. We need to always be looking to upgrade.

Re: Who is Kirk Cousins?

I am not sure what there currently is to "get" about Cousins. Are some people way too harsh on him? Of course, but at the same time some of his supporters seem overly convinced he is destined for greatness based on what, I have no idea.

So far he has been middle of the road or perhaps a little less when grading against his peers. I don't think people pointing this out don't "get it" I don't think seeing him go in either direction from here would be a huge surprise either.

If Turdk Cousins was a scratch off ticket, what would he be? I'd say a $2 dollar win

Re: Who is Kirk Cousins?

I guess what I mean by folks don't get it is simply this..If you put any Current QB in the NFL on this team we might be only 1 or 2 wins better ..The QB is only a piece of the puzzle..Cousins did not lose the game sunday. The Redskins do not have playoff personnel from top to bottom they have holes to fill. Fact is At this moment The QB position of the Skins looks a lot better than the Rb position..which has been more productive??? what position right now is playing the best?? don't tell me WR,no to RB,TE ?,OL..maybe pass block but no to run blocking..the Def is not good..YET EVERYBODY is watching Cousins !! If I were Cousins I would actually want out of this dumpster fire called the Redskins..Players laughing on sideline during a blowout..Barry telling players after loss ..forget about it!..what the heck! Cousins may be the only thing that makes me even watch this sorry team ..because that is what they are …anybody beg to differ??

Re: Who is Kirk Cousins?

Play him the rest of the year to get a bigger sample size of he can do. I don't think he will be a superstar but I wouldn't play RG3 because he is to fragile.... The QB of the future is not on the roster.....

NoCalHail 11-11-2015 09:26 PM

Re: Who is Kirk Cousins?

I don't think anyone is pointing to his performance Sunday in particular. I think it is his overall body of work so far. He isn't bad, he isn't great, he is average....somewhere in the middle. He is about exactly at the spot where it is hard to make grand declarations about what he will be in the future either way.

My biggest reservation about Cousins before and going forward is his lack of play-making ability. He isn't very dynamic. (and I don't mean not athletic and/or not a runner). You send a WR out 4-7 yards and if they are open, he will hit them with the pass. It might not be in stride, it might be high/low but it will get there. He can do that really well. But it seems like when those options aren't there continually, his game suffers.

Now, this wasn't the case before. I'd take the 2013 Cousins vs the Eagles over what I see right now, because it seems like he has decided mistake free at all costs is the priority over taking chances and pressing the ball downfield, HOWEVER, he is still throwing interceptions. A couple of them this season haven't been his fault, others have been downright awful decisions.

For a QB that isn't throwing for 300 yards and 2-3 TD's a game, every interception or errant throw becomes magnified because their overall game is a lot more narrow. You don't see certain other QB's like Aaron Rodgers get bashed for how much they take sacks because it's what their capabilities are otherwise that are the factor.

When you have a QB who is middle of the pack, of course mistakes and turnovers will be over-examined because they don't have the "game" to go out and make up for it.

I agree here and have always said that regardless of how KC plays, we need to draft a QB in 2016. I just think if KC solidifies himself as the starter moving forward, then that draft pick needs to be in the later rounds. Those first four or five picks need to be players that can contribute immediately.

I don't intend any offense, but I disagree with the premise of the question.

With superior talent evaluators, which most here agree we have now, we should always take the best player available.

So the answer would be whatever round a QB is the best player available.
