I meant in terms of being a conduit for lil Danny. In terms of overall GM skills, they are nothing alike. Nobody could match Vinny's stupidity. |

I don't think you'll ever see a team where their President or GM openly defies the owner. Except maybe whatever the Cowpukes front office did to prevent Jerry Jones from drafting Manziel. |

They must have put quaaludes in his coffee on draft day. |

This team is and will always be a mess. I just look at it as an endearing quality now so I don't go insane.

So is that the agreed reason why Scott is out, because he fell off the wagon?

Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
I'm just baffled as to why Allen has so much power at Redskin Park. I mean what has he done in his time here to be given so much power? Does he just go around and kiss Snyder's little ass all day long? I just don't get it.

Well technically under his watch, the team has been to the playoffs twice, and they just finish back-to-back winning seasons. I know the success has not been all because of him, but he is the president and over the past two years has had both the GM and coach have reported to him. I don't get where the confusion comes from in your statement. Would you rather to have Snyder make all the calls? |

Trouble in Redskins Park?
Allen has been team President since 2014. Last time I checked that puts him above a GM in any typical organizational structure. I'm confused as to why this is news to anyone.

They should have set it up like the Falcons where the GM (Dimitroff) and the President (McKay) each report to Arthur Blank. One is the football lead and the other is the business lead |

Keim had a report earlier that said they will be meeting soon.

I agree with this. And when I heard that he was in the player interviews at the combine, that's what kept me level headed about McCloughan being phased out. I do think Jay knows how to assess football character and I think he has a strong vision for what he wants his team to look like. I would go so far as to say I would trust him to have final say over our draft board on a go forward basis. I hope Allen and Doug Williams listen to him on draft day. The only remaining reservation I have about Jay is whether he keeps himself open minded enough about coaching staff hires. Does he rely too much on those he knows, thus limiting himself to a narrow field of candidates. We'll see. Overall in Jay I trust. |

My concern is if he is experienced enough to expand his roll and still manage the team properly. Very few coaches are successful at balancing the budget, buying the groceries, and cooking the meal. Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
This is crazy. Allen has to go.
"Allen also disapproved of McCloughan’s hands-on approach with players. At one point late in the year, a frustrated defensive back left practice with the session in progress and retreated to the locker room. McCloughan went to retrieve him, telling the player to come to his office so they could talk. Allen, according to two people, later reprimanded McClouhghan, cursing at him and telling him never to go in the locker room again." https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/football-insider/wp/2017/03/08/redskins-gm-scot-mccloughan-has-no-role-in-current-free-agency-decision-making/?utm_term=.7baf253ec870 |
Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
Should we do a poll: McCloughan v. Allen -- you decide? Probably irrelevant, as the news reports today make it seem a foregone conclusion.
I have to admit, I was not convinced that this wasn't more negative hype which seems to come so easily for this team, but this all looks pretty bad. I hate that Garcon appears to be signing elsewhere (although for $16M, I cannot say that would have made sense for us, even if the next few years are heavily discounted). But I love the guy as a player and 1000 yard receivers are not a dime a dozen. Losing two in one offseason is pretty rough; I wonder if this means we try to keep Mighty Mouse. |

The circle jerk lives on. At this point our most competent football man is Jay Gruden, who while solid in his own right, is not McCloughan and has questionable spots on his resume, aka sticking with Jim Haslett, hiring Joe Barry, and then hiring another defensive coordinator with a highly questionable resume in Greg Manusky. Add in the fact there's still this shitshow with KC and if worst comes to worst, next offseason Jay might be fired, most likely due to poor additions on defense, along with having gotten rid of our franchise qb (and not finding an adequate replacement), and our SB winning talent evaluator. All we would have left at that point would be a handful of decent players and Snyder/Allen at the top. TL;DR: I will leave a flaming bag of poo on Snyder's doorstep because words can't express my disappointment at ruining the best thing we've had going for us in 25 years. |

Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
Why are we tortured every year with this sh$$t? Rotating HC every 2 years (even Zorn), Vinnie Cerrato for years, high priced FA like Haynesworth, RG3, scandals with Shanahan, McNabb, and now Scott McC and Cousins drama. Seems like every single year it's another drama-filled story like an amateurish organization.
Despite it all, if we somehow sign Cousins, we're still in a good place to do well and pick up from last year. Even if we lose Cousins, I think we'll take a step back but I wonder if Colt will surprise - we still have good O-line, top TE talent, Crowder, ?Doctson, and lots of cap for fixing defense.. Just stop the freaking media side show. If we're going to part with Scott - fire him now and avoid 2 months of media frenzy. Quash the rumors and move forward. Hate seeing our name in the ESPN headlines for stupid crap. |
Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?
I'm guessing his influence has diminished over time. I'm not trying to credit or discredit anyone, just saying we've gotten some good results lately and maybe it's not all due to McC.
Fair enough. I'm definitely not trying to say we only have McC to thank for where we're at, clearly Gruden has played a hand in the success of this team. But right now Gruden is our only saving grace. Way too much negative bs about the McC/Allen beef and the Kirk not wanting us bs for me to think Gruden can steer us out of this ship alone. I didn't have a problem with Allen handling the business side of things, but I have a major problem with Allen being involved in player evaluations. He's got 1 good draft in 2014 (that might be partially based on McC's scouting service) and then he's got fuck-all in years of drafting. He ruined the Bucs, and somehow managed to outlast Shanahan (I guess because he was the bit player and Mike S. had "total control.") But as long as Allen/Snyder are in charge, I will be convinced we are not any better off then we were. Especially if Kirk leaves and we get a ham sandwich or worse in return. |

Bruce is making this franchise better how? by "winning off of the field"? He's doing an excellent job this off season. |
