I hope the league is getting a full grasp of this because the salary cap needs to keep going up.
I realize they have been nudging it for a few years now but Holy Fuckballs Batman! |
Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
I stole this from CPND.
Look at this list in terms of year signed: 1. Carr $25,000,000 -'17 2. Luck $24,594,000 -'16 3. Palmer $24,350,000 -'16 4. Brees $24,250,000 -'16 5. KC $23,w943,600 NA 6. Flacco $22,133,333 -'16 7. Rodgers $22,000,000 -'13 8. Wilson $21,900,000 -'15 9. Roethlisberger $21,850,000 -'15 10. Eli $21,000,000 -'15 11. Rivers $20,812,500 -'15 12. Newton $20,760,000 -'15 13. Ryan $20,750,000 -'13 14. Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
If you believe Bruce, or Doug Williams, or whoever you choose, the offer has been made to Cousins earlier this offseason, and from all we are being told it is the same deal that we knew about, 20 million a year guaranteed, with incentives that could pay him around 22 million a year if all incentives are reached. That is why i still don't believe he will sign for that, unless the Redskins submit a new offer in wake of the Carr / Stafford contract.
I agree with the other posters who stated that if no deal gets done by July 17, then Bruce should go. And what about Cousins allegedly stating earlier in the offseason that he would never sign a LTD here as long as Allen was still around? Have they mended fences? |

In all seriousness, if they truly want him around long term, they will make sure he gets the contract he wants. I just hope it happens soon, I'm tired of this soap opera. |
Carr has also already had a major injury in his young career. I think you went three fars too far in comparing the two. Also, at the money we're talking about here, these two QB's had better not be prospects. They need to be stars.
if you think that the top 12th to 15th ranked QB is all Cousins will ever be, NO WAY you give him the contract he wants . . . if you give him a huge contract you are banking on what you think he'll become still . . .that is still about what his prospects are |
Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
That is the key number. I don't expect Kirk to accept any less than that.
Yeah he(Kirk) played the entire season, but is he worth it? If Carr doesn't get hurt the Raiders were playoff bound. Kirk kept us out of the playoffs. I want Kirk signed, but I do understand the apprehension in the FO. |
Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
I think this should give the Redskins comfort in giving Cousins the money he deserves. Before this Carr deal they had to feel like they were stepping out on a bit of a limb, giving Cousins so much would have made them feel like they were above the market for him.
But this shows that the market is going to keep increasing for quality QBs, as long as there are so few quality QBs in the NFL. If I'm the Redskins brass today I'm feeling more comfortable. Yeah Kirk will be expensive, but other QBs are going to get paid too. They're not going to find themselves at a cap disadvantage compared to other teams - other QBs are going to get theirs too.
You gotta be kidding me!!!? Unless the NFL increases the cap considerably before the season starts, the FO is sweating bullets if they indeed do want to keep him. A Qb that hasn't won a playoff game wants to be the highest paid QB in the league? If he matches what Carr wants that will be fine, but what if he goes nuts and goes way beyond the Carr deal? If the cap doesn't go up the Skins have to jettison some decent players in the not too distant future and we will really never turn the corner. Is Kirk worth that? I am not so sure. I do like him and want him signed, but damn he wants to be paid more than Brady or Brees? The only saving grace is that the '18 QB crop is stacked if he does indeed go too high, which would tell me he wants to leave.. |
Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
40 mil guaranteed... He is guaranteed 24 and 32 for a total of 56 mil the next two years under the franchise tag. That money spread across three years, just in guaranteed cash is not bad at all. Even if we went to 70 mil fully guaranteed (not injury), its the cost to keep a QB these days. do the damn deal and get the talking heads to move onto the next

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
Saw a Charley Casserly video where he explained how an agent would probably negotiate a long-term deal for a player in Kirk's situation. First of all, the agent would tell Skins Management to forget about the $24M for 2017 because Kirk is already guaranteed that money. Then he would probably offer the Skins an additional 5 years at $23M per year with half of that amount guaranteed. The additional 5 years would therefore add up to $115M with $57.5M guaranteed. If all 6 years are wrapped into the same contract, then the total would be $139M with $81.5M guaranteed. These numbers are staggering, if not ridiculous.

And inevitably signs with another team, thus making it 25+ years since we have had a franchise qb for the forseeable future. If they don't resign Kirk I want a gd firesale. Burn the bitch down. |

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
Why are you going to have a stroke over an entertainment franchise? Drama is the norm for this franchise. It is a real life soap opera for men and boys. The quicker you realize this you will see that it isn't all that important.

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
I just think KC wants to wait a year and see how things are going to play out in LA and SF. One thing to remember is 2018 will be a stronger Qb class. He may not have anybody willing to take on his contract demands.

Yes, a Pro Bowl, stand-in-the-pocket modern prototype qb that has had two consecutive baller seasons might not find a worthy suitor that doesn't have to give up anything besides a big money deal that will easily fit under the cavernous salary cap thanks to astronomical tv deals that have made the NFL billions (with a B). Seems plausible. |

Ditto for everyone Skins, just don't have a stroke over something you don't have control over. If Kirk did end up ditching us after this season then we wil have do deal with it, but in the end life goes on. You always see the small minority of fans go off like a bomb when stuff like this occurs. Not worth it, plus there are many other distractions available. I wouldn't take too much out of those articles/tweets. Modern news is about creating news, not just reporting it. We have 20 days to go til the deadline, still plenty of time to get a deal done. Just hope Kirk gives the Skins a break in restructuring any deal so they can resign guys next year. |

And for all this, there's things called figures of speech. Not quite meant to be taken literally, but when the crushing boredom of the offseason is upon us I guess there's nothing better to do. |

Modern news outlets create news just as much as they report it. Nothing to base having a stroke over. And what in my post was not the truth? Football is not just football, but entertainment, in fact it is mostly entertainment anymore with all the hype. You can still be a fan and have an understanding of reality. As a preteen I loved pro wrestling and certain wrestlers, even though I knew it was fake, but it made for great entertainment. Same goes for the NFL. The NFL isn't fake, but it is just a game, nothing more nothing less. You watch it to be entertained or distracted. Skins winning or losing won't affect your bottom line or your life, outside of what $ you paid for the tickets, concessions, etc, unless you are a big time gambler. That is my point. Just wait and see what happens with Kirk and the FO and let it ride. You have no say in the matter and it personally doesn't affect you in any way. |

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
It feels like people have trouble telling the difference between when a reporter is reporting news vs when they are offering conjecture. Dianna's tweets are conjecture. Meanwhile, JLC offered conjecture a week ago saying he thinks there's an 80% chance that Cousins ends up signing by the deadline.
There has been no *news* reported on Cousins in the last couple of months, aside from Schefter saying the sides have been talking and the tone is improved. We as educated fans must have the ability to filter through the noise. And it comes down to this: deadlines spur action. Talks can take on whatever tone they want from March - July 14, it doesn't matter. All that matters is the actual $ figures offered just as the deadline approaches, and both sides put their cards on the table. Don't lose your mind. As hard as it is to wait, that's all you can do. July 17 is when we'll find out how badly these sides want each other. |
Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
By the way, and I'm not saying anything we don't already know, but Dianna is nice to look at. I've definitely got a thing. She needs some attention in boob thread.
