This reads like a plan I would certainly agree with...the best TE or best Pass rusher available at 15. Rosen for second. WR later. Tackle/RB late in the draft. I like all this |
Re: Redskins Mock Draft
We need a pass rusher more than anything else. Anderson just isn't going to cut it.
|
Re: Redskins Mock Draft
I would trade down, get a G (OL and DL would be set) then focus on a Pass rusher, WR, QB, ILB, CB, TE. The OL is one G away from being one of the best in the NFL, Morgan Moses needs to play better of course.

I wouldn't mind trading back either, but we know they will most likely move up knowing our luck |

It depends who is there when we pick. If a potentially great player is there at 15 then we simply can not trade back. We lack superstars. |

I seriously doubt we get that lucky 3 years in a row. The only "superstar" I see potentially dropping to 15 is Hockenson (TE), mainly due to his position. Although a need....not a critical one for the skins. I actually think this is the best scenario as the Skins would be forced to either take him, OR they would have actual substantial leverage at the 15th pick to trade down. We also need to pay attention to who we are ahead of, the Panthers. Who need Edge like us, which is irrelevant as we would definitely take an edge guy vs a trade down. However, they also need an OT, which MAY fall. Teams may trade if there is OT in our lap, as the Panthers will be drooling, so someone else may want to jump over them to get one, perhaps Houston or Vikings. So, best case for trade down is probably depends on whether Hockensen or OT falls to us. |

What we need is a QB .. I don’t care if it’s Rosen, Lock, Jones . Without that position in place I can’t get excited about the team . QB, Edge,WR,TE,Ol (left guard) .. would you give up next years #1 for Rosen then fill out all the needs in this years draft?

Great Question, I would if it meant he is the franchise QB. I agree with you though, it's time to stop the BS Free Agent QB stuff, we let our own walk last yr, lets go get a QB and mold him into a franchise guy. |

Nope. We've gotten unparalleled production from our 2nd round pick in the past 3 drafts. :Flush: A WHOPPING 3 combined starts... Trade the 2019 2nd + a 2020 mid for Rosen for fuck's sake. |

You're right. Our 2nd round picks have been just as successful as our 1st round picks. We have had no trouble drafting second tier players once the top tier guys are off the board. We should definitely trade 2020's 1st instead of 2019's 2nd for this reason. |

Re: Redskins Mock Draft
Any surprises for the draft coming up from the Skins? I wouldn't say trading for Rosen would be a surprise....but maybe a player, position, or trade out of the first round...?
I think my surprise would be the Skins picking a Tackle with one of the first 2 picks. I think we are really scouting there...we have had a ton of Tackles in private workouts...So my call is Tackle a lot higher than folks think. |

Per Walter Football who yearly compiles the visits of prospects to teams they learn of through social media and beat writers...Pri is Private meeting which would indicate a more serious visit. WOR is private workout...again seemingly a more serious visit. > pointed up is multiple contacts with prospect. So makes sense QB are plenty on this list....but look at the Tackle list. Lots of top, middle tier prospects. Of course this doesn't mean this is a board for them, just good discussion piece.

Redskins Mock Draft
Interesting, by my count, the number of visits per position breaks down as follows:
WR: 14 OT: 9.5 (one identified as OT/G) QB: 9 DT: 3.5 (one identified as DT/DE) OLB: 2.5 (one identified as OLB/DE) G: 2.5 (one identified as OT/G) ILB: 2 TE: 2 RB, C, FB, CB, and DE: all 1 (the DE "1" are two guys identified as DE/DT or DE/OLB) Maybe it's hard to take too much from this (because raw numbers won't reflect interest in individuals per se and some of this may be smokescreens), but given our G situation, they must think that some of these OTs would convert to G. But I have to say, I am surprised we're not seeing more at G, ILB, OLB, C, and CB. And no safeties at all? |

Re: Redskins Mock Draft
The nice thing about having a roster that could use help everywhere is that we don't need to overthink the draft. Just go BPA every round. I don't care what position it is, just take the best player. It's almost a relief for me as a fan cause I don't have a particular "wish list" of players I want. Give me anybody who can play their position well.
If we can shore up the QB spot with Rosen (big IF, I know) then that's worth a round 2 pick. Trade back in the first, recoup our 2nd rounder and load up on young, cheap talent. |

Re: Redskins Mock Draft
if an elite edge rusher or Hockenson isn't there at 15, I'd like to see us trade back. There are no QB or WR prospects worthy of the 15th pick, and our other most pressing needs have tons of depth in the mid-rounds.

I agree, except if there is a great tackle I might take him. Let him play guard for a few years and back-up Trent and Moses. J Williams Plus Trent has 2 years left on his contract and I doubt they want to give a big contract to a 33-year-old tackle. |

The problem with this strategy is that everyone else wants the same, (but may also want OT). Frankly the only taker of a trade down is if the last OT, Edge or Hockenson are available. It would be really hard to pass up on Hockenson to move down, but that's really the ammo we would need. The only reason I could see them to move down, is to secure another 2nd and still capture a Rookie QB at then end of the first or in the 2nd. I personally love Hockenson as he is both Oline and a receiver....really 2 players in one. He is the main one I would not trade down, but no way he falls to us. Oline? trade down, you can get a guard in round 3. Most edge? trade down, as anyone here is likely a situational 3rd down pass rusher anyways. At 15, Buy Hockenson, Buy Sweat, Sell the rest! |

Just curious, who is the 3rd? IMHO, I think we are more solid at C than at RT. Moses is hurt every single year and isn't serviceable when injured (unlike Trent who is merely good when injured). |

Re: Redskins Mock Draft
When I look at the Roster I see some big needs:
1. Pass Rusher 2. Free Safety 3. Quality starting boundary WR opposite Richardson 4. Left Guard 5. Blocking TE 6. Young QB Because of our poor free agency period, Bruce has put us in a bad position to have to plug holes in this draft. We must use the first 4 picks to get players who start or contribute right away. |
