Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
well that's what we did with Sam ..
Yes but that’s what “they” did with Sam. The new boss is not the same as the old boss. Lol. |
Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
I did read the plan was to have him closer to the line and rushing the quarterback. Wish i could find the link again.
I have read this on multiple sites just now as well. Not that they said he would exclusively play at the 2nd level, just that he's much more impapctful in it. I guess he'll be spending time in both areas of the field or maybe not. With the additions Peter's & Co are bringing in and the creativity on D that now exists in the building? .... the possibilities are vast. Wagner played very well last year even at his age and I'm pumped they signed him. I dk t expect a huge fall off in production and beyond that, I read and found this key, he could have hung around and waited for an instant SB contender to make an offer... he chose Quinn and Washington without thinking twice. This is a great influence and immediate respect grab for Quinn and this staff. I'm feelin it. Not like we used to feel it by giving crazy stupid contracts to aging or shiny players that wouldn't make sense nor pan out here. No. It's smart, quick hitting deals for solid players that will certainly have a defined role on this team. So far I'm impressed and thankful the staff and peters have approached the market without any reserve or ego regarding the shape this roster was left in. This isn't the free agency winning of old, these are sincere attempts at building culture and changing this team with the future in mind. A lot of these players and the contract lengths will take part in molding draft picks in addition to contributing over the next few years. Like I said, hook the fire hose up to the hydrant full of kool-aid and aim it right here in camden County, NJ. I'm in. |
Absolutely counting ST’s especially LS. What a fucking disaster that was.
DE Dorance Armstrong LB Frankie Luvu C Tyler Biadasz RB Austin Ekeler G Nick Allegretti EDGE Clelin Ferrell - this is who you were either forgetting or not starting S Jeremy Chinn K Brandon McManus LS Tyler Ott Wasn’t counting Ertz. Wagner might not have been signed when i posted that. He is 10.
Yeah, I consider Clelin a depth signing (same with Fowler). Hope he isn't a starting DE but things happen. |

i get it maybe the New regime will do the right thing with the QB not sure how excited i am with MM even as backup . I would NOT take anything less than a 3rd rnd pick for Sam i just got a hunch that in the correct system and supporting cast he is going to be successful.. if a trade or pick actually helps us then by all means do it but in a total meltdown scenario last year at times he played well . Draft the Rook at #2 let Sam be backup and MM can be whatever (he can't start ) IF The Rook works out then great but i would wait and see before letting Sam walk for very little .. |

Thanks Ron. :banghead:
Ouch looking at that we still have to fill 6 starting positions or have positions filled by players that should be back-ups. Almost a third of the starting team. Still need both tackle positions, QB (Draft - BTW no way Mariota is ahead of Howell), a WR, a DE and a CB. Ron really screwed over this team. |

Thanks Ron. :banghead:
I expect them to draft well and many of the picks will make the team adding a lot more depth. I am concerned about the pass rush from the DL. The "pass rushers" they acquired really are not top rushers and it's hard to have a great defense without that. But this is just the first few months, I have a pretty good feeling that they will find those players over time. For now I agree they are trying to put a decent team around their young QB so he won't be in a Carolina situation. |
Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
Nope. As has been pointed out coverage is the one thing Chinn can't do. Pretty sure the coaching staff is aware of that and won't put him into the situation where the D primarily relies on Chinn's coverage ability.
I think the coverage concern is more about WRs than covering a TE. Different speed and technique involved for those. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I kinda like Tyler Boyd as a security blanket type for the new qb. Only if he's cheap though.
I really don't get the Crowder signing. |
It’s a one year deal and we had the worst LB’s in football. We can also draft one who can learn from the master now. It is a great move.
Tackle and Corner will be addressed in the draft. We absolutely knocked FA out of the park. We have 9 new starters. 10 - forgot about Ott. 2020 pro bowl long snapper. All upgrades. All under 3 year contracts. Still 6 picks in the top 100. This is going to be a completely different team.
So you think Peters knocked it out of the park? We've been down this road before, signing a bunch of free agents. Let's be honest, most of these guys are injury prone, past their primes or didn't live up to their potential. The good part is these are team friendly deals. Smart signings money wise. I get what Peters is doing. He has to come in here and start turning this roster over. I just think a few of these signings are terrible. But some are good, particularly the center. Gotta get an experienced center if you're playing a rookie. |
Punt returner?
Seems like you'd want him to contribute at wr because he isn't a very good punt returner. Idk. Not a huge deal either way of course. I'm sure he got very little guaranteed money. |

IMO these are smart signings, with good team friendly contracts, and needed bodies since the team has let most of the expiring contracts walk. We know this team is going to build through the draft and using free agency as a complement to the draft. And they are sticking to the plan, and that is better than any flashy free agency acquisition (how many of those have worked out in the past? None). |

Alegretti 27 no injury concerns; Biadiax 26 no injury concerns; D Armstrong 26 no injury concerns; Luvu 27 no injury concerns; That's four starters, the other 2 that are clearly starters, Wagner has no injury concerns and Chinn is 26 and both those guys have minimal 1 year contracts. |

The only injury concerns are Ertz and Ekeler, and as I said, those were the low risk/high reward, incentive-laden deals that the team made. |

Ertz I dont expect to be the full time starter, Ekeler i see splitting carries and being used the way the Eagles used Sproles as to minimize his injury chances |
Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
Saw a stat that had Eckler at 44 TDs since 2021... that leads the NFL.. Regardless of what we think, he's got a nose for the endzone.

Thanks because I wasn’t sure where to begin. These are far from the terrible contracts we used to hand out to over the hill stars. How anyone can have a problem with what Peters just did is bat shit crazy. But that will become painfully obvious when the season starts. |

Ekeler averaged a paltry 3.5 ypc last year and had 628 yards and got hurt. But if he is used just as a 3rd down back then that's probably good. Ertz .. always hurt, past his prime. Hoping we finally draft a true Y TE. Wagner.. past his prime, can't run anymore but is still a beast in the box. It's a passing league so I would expect him to get exposed in the passing game. I remember Gibson toasting him when we played Seattle. Should have done more of that but EB is an idiot. Fowler... never reached his potential but I like this one. Low risk, high reward. Mariota... terrible. He's a effing quitter and I would never sign a guy like that. Plus he sucks. Sam has way more upside. The rest are pretty good. I'm not gonna look at everything through my Commanders glasses. I don't hate all the signings. As I said I like some, some I don't. For the most part I like what Peters is going, gutting a bad roster. |

With RB's, especially when they get in their late 20's, you have to look at it year to year. You can judge him off what he did in 2021 or 2022. His production fell off a cliff last year. Plus he lost 4 fumbles. |

To get this many top quality starters and role players this early gives this coaching staff a ton of room to plan and build their vision. These moves aren't the end of the plan, they are clearly foundational moves for building a strong competitive franchise. Sent from my SM-G781U using Tapatalk |

According to the pick value chart this is roughly the equivalent of the 95th pick. Late 3rd. Good value. 78=200 152=30.6 230.6 total 102=92 179=19.8 111.8 total +118.8 Pick 95=120 |
