Just raises stakes on Dan. The NFC East will be more competitive and he better compete or he’s gone.
Easily the best coach they’ve had since Coughlin
That's a really low bar, to be honest. Harbaugh is a good coach, but I don't think he's a great coach. His teams will compete, but the Ravens in recent years have had epic 4th quarter collapses -- ironically, that was what was the final straw for Daboll this year. My Ravens fan friends are largely pleased that Harbaugh has moved on. He's taking Monken with him, and they have a bit of a history of making use of Lamar's mobility in ways that exposed him to some big hits -- something that should be of concern given that Dart seems to have a death wish.

Don't get me wrong -- the Giants will definitely improve under Harbaugh (and getting Nabers back will help a lot), but they basically have only one direction to go. And I prefer the days when our division was filled with good teams anyway -- that level of competition forces you to bring it year over year, and that is what we're striving for.

Yeah it’s been a clown show since Couglin, Harbaugh will bring credibility and stability but as we well know a poor front office/ownership will undermine the best coaches.

Well, no deal yet; haggling over contract language.

Surprised at the reports that Schoen will stay; I wonder whether that is the holdup. Would be fairly amusing if it fell apart.

It would be hilarious. Reports say contract language is the holdup. He must be trying to get everything in writing before he takes over.

Bet you that includes Schoen being shown the door eventually; maybe after the draft and his choice of gm takes over.

The longer this isn’t signed; the more likely this blows up in Giants faces.

As expected the delay is over control basically. Harbaugh doesn't want to be under GM's Schoen.

And now Harbaugh is confirmed as the Giants coach. Schoen? Who knows? I have to believe Harbaugh is keeping him on to wash jock straps or something.

After Josh Allen being a turnover machine today; do Bills fire McDermott?

I think Buffalo consider it but I doubt it without a clear upgrade lined up. With their history (Marv Levy coached 4 SB losses) I reckon they'll think twice. But he's likely on thin ice if he can't leverage Allen's best years with a real run at the SB next year.

Different owners. This was the Bills best shot and they blew it. The afc will only get tougher. More teams to go through. Their window likely has closed.

Different owner same history. But agree their current window is closing, especially with the Pats resurgence.

I knew this would happen. Bills fire McDermott. So 10 changes in all. Think the Bills are slightly ahead of the Ravens; as the best remaining job openings.

Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel

Bills are the final expected opening for this cycle. 10 is pretty high.

Hot seat Jan. 2027:

1. Commanders - Dan Quinn
2. Eagles- Nick Sirianni
3. Bucs- Todd Bowles
4. Colts- Shane Steichen
5. Jets- Aaron Glenn
6. Bengals- Zac Taylor - well only if he has nothing left on his contract. Brown to cheap to him; if Bengals fail again.

This cycle took out a lot of long tenure coaches. Next year should be a low number of openings.

Happy to admit I was wrong. Now expecting McDermott to go to the Ravens or Steelers, though if not it would be good to get him as DC (and heir apparent to DQ?), however unlikely.

No. When DQ gets eventually fired; prefer an offensive head coach.

I wonder which one is easier:

Hiring an offensive head coach and then finding a good DC?

Hiring a defensive head coach and then finding a good OC?

My guess it’s easier to hire an offensive head coach because there are a lot of good DCs out there but there aren’t as many good OCs.

McDermott should have no problem getting a new hc job soon. Very surprised he's gone in Buffalo honestly, but it is what it is. Curious to see who Buffalo gets as I imagine it may be an offensive guy for Allen.

Talk of whether they could get Tomlin. Pedigree is there of course but would Tomlin's style work? Could he turn the D around? Get an OC to get the best out of Allen? Does Tomlin even want a HC job again without a break?

Tomlin has sucked picking OC in recent years. Tomlin is taking a year off.

Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Mike McDaniel will become the OC for Chargers.
This could be defining for McDaniel. He'll have worked with 2 of the top 3 QB's to come out of the 2020 draft. If he can't turn Herbert into a winner in the playoffs, does it show his limitations as an OC or the fact those QB's were overrated? If he can, and Tua bombs wherever he goes, does it vindicate McDaniel the HC? After all he didn't draft Tua.

Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel

McDermott criticized the roster in a meeting 5 weeks ago; that didn’t help him. Ownership said the playoffs loss, devastation players felt and Josh Allen crying; played a role in McDermott’s firing.

If I was McDermott (and they ask) I'd be very interested in the Raiders job. 1st pick (Mendoza) an O that's a good OL and a good QB away from being very good and a lot of D pieces in place. Get in a good OC and that could be a swift turnaround, maybe even us from last year.

88Commanders00 01-23-2026 09:42 AM

Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel

Of the 5 remaining jobs:

Bills- Josh Allen in his prime. You could’ve be the coach to get him over the hump.
Raiders- Can get franchise with Mendoza.

Steelers- stable organization. Owners are fine with mediocrity; as don’t want a bad season or two, to put team in position to draft qb.

Cards- some pieces but what to do at qb. Buzz, they move on from Murray.

Browns- Coaches are turning them down left and right. Still saddled with Watson for I think 1 more year. Do have extra picks this year and next; to put them in a position for a qb in 27. Probably go with Sheddur this year or even play Watson.
