The article i'm about to link is crap, in my opinion (Ried does what he always does and exaggerates and is overly dramatic to try to make a point), but there is some insight into shanahan's thought process, from a private interview with Jason Reid:

A lot of people feel Mike Shanahan sacrificed the franchise by allowing RG3 to continue to play. But what folks don't realize is if he had pulled Griffin, the player mainly responsible for getting the Redskins as far as they got, then that decision would have alienated Griffin from Shanahan and Shanahan would have lost Griffin's trust with the risk of losing the entire locker room. I think Mike Shanahan will only repeat a decision like this one during a playoff game only when the season is on the line and allow RG3 to keep playing.

Would a responsible parent care about upsetting or "alienating" his kid because he tells him he's not allowed to go outside to play because he's sick?

Mike dropped the ball on this one and should have been the responsible "parent", especially dealing with a 22 year old kid who thinks he's invincible.

Shanahan let his ego get the best of him(yes,Mike has one) and has not been in a winning position like this in a while. He wanted to win at all costs even if it meant running his shiny toy into the ground.

I have heard commentary on this issue.....in perpetuum(thats for you Joe). To be sure it has been hashed and re-hashed and abashed. Of the PROfessional football types I have heard....Coaches.....Players......they do not agree with you. Like Ditka, Herm Edwards, Trent Dilfer, Doc Walker and many more. The only people sharing your opinion THAT I have heard have been fans.....

NFL coaches aren't parents to the athletes. They are there to win games. And I imagine Griffin would take offense to that concept as well. He was paid multiple millions to be on the field, he wanted to be on the field, no medical assistant said don't put him on the field, and the coach let him go on the field. This happens a lot at the end of seasons, and even in playoffs. Ultimately the coach is going to listen to everyone around him and make a decision.

I cant fault Shanny for leaving him in. I am sure he asked him many times how he was feeling and RG3 replied that he could go. I feel he should of came out whenever he hobbled to the side line for the 8 or 9 yard gain in 3rd quarter. I could of ran faster than that. Well maybe not i am fat and old. He was our best option obviously. Would of liked to of seen Cousins get a rhythem to of seen what he could of done and brought us back sooner. Seattle was clearly the better team and the score should of been worse. The play that was the difference was Marshaw Lynch scooping the ball up for 18 yards. Who does that?! We recover that ball and possibly score it is a different game. With the recovery they eventually score.

As far as when Robert should be back and how to use him? Make sure that his knee is 100%. I have no problem having him sit half the season. This is our future we are talking about. I have faith in Cousins to win at least half the games. While watching him play is very exciting they need to have run as a last resort in order to save his career.

Whenever someone one ask me if he will be back or how will he recover. I always tell him he is Superman, he will be back. When seeing him on TV before game day rather it be on a commercial or highlight. I always sound like TO saying thats my quarterback. I am so proud to say that is my QB and hopefully for many years and championships to come.
