McCain was more than fine last year, which is why he was one of the few players they mentioned by name as a priority to bring back.
It was one game, without their best safety - K Curl. I wouldn't be too judgmental just yet.
I wasn't a fan of McCain last season either. He was part of all the blown coverages and miscommunications, wasn't he? |

I think if I was to single out one guy from the secondary who was a liability it would be WJ3, not McCain. He was pretty solid I think. PFF had him with four interceptions, five pass break-ups, and a 72.6 coverage grade. |
Re: Jags Postgame
They didn’t give McCain the extension to sit, but to be the free safety. They coulda easily moved on from him. He ain’t coming off the field regardless of Curl or Forrest

Jackson and McCain suck!! Period!! Bad signings, what pisses me off is McCain has an attitude, opens his mouth. |
Re: Jags Postgame
Well, I certainly don't think either of them suck. Both played pretty well in the second half of last season. With the exception of Forrest, I think the whole secondary was pretty bad in game 1, but it was just one game, and they were without K Curl. Hopefully Curl returns Sunday against the Lions and we can see how they perform when their all out there together. I think it's nice returning the whole starting secondary from last year, but they gotta play better collectively, and complementary to the D-line.

I still think most of it is him being misused.
For McCain, I just gave too many flashes of a guy running wide open and McCain being in the vicinity and DBs shaking heads and pointing fingers at each other. That and the missed tackles and bad angles in the run game... I'd rather have two young hard hitting promising young guys on the field than a lousy mouthed veteran who doesn't deliver. Agreed. Jackson couldn’t cover a a sandwich with a ziplock. Our secondary is as terrible as our lb corp. If those areas aren’t addressed heavily this off-season the entire staff , and front office should be sent to a football 101 seminar and then fired whether they learn something or not. |
Re: Jags Postgame
I love our TE's, we went from an area of weakness to one of great strength. All 4 can play, Bates is an animal blocker (love watching him kick ass). Love Rogers, young stud. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/commanders-tight-end-armani-rogers-113042607.html

I think the McCloughan genius ship has long set sail. He got drafted late and cut, and hasn't seen the field. He's a depth piece, if guys go down. I'd rather go with the same guys and see if it improves. I still have confidence in Jackson. I could be wrong, but I feel like he's the default guy to blame. Even though the team insists on using him against his actual strengths. |

Maybe he can. But you don't risk putting a player on waivers that can play, if he's possibly that important. Maybe the 49ers messed up. I hope they did. But unless he's crushed it here, I don't think we need a major shake-up in the secondary in week 2. |

Loaded at tight end.

Re: Jags Postgame
I can't get over that bunch of 4 play we ran. I had been hoping to see that kind of creativity from Scott Turner. With all the offensive talent we have, we should be able to bamboozle defenses on a regular basis.

It's nice to now have a QB whose skillset allows ST to open up his playbook. Just scratching the surface... |
