Keep in mind that "top 5" D from 2 years ago got fat on several bottom of the barrel backup QBs. When faced with some real competition they got shredded, like the TB playoff game.

While that is true, I don't think it takes that much away from what they were able to accomplish that year.

They started slow last year too, but in the second half of the season they only allowed an average of about 16 points per game against T Brady, C Newton, D Carr, J Hurts, T Bridgewater, R Wilson, and D Jones...

The team was not too good from week 14-16, but they had a lot of issues going on during that stretch.

All fair points, Matty, but I think we can all agree that they were a moonshot better than what we've seen so far this season. Unless Jax and Det are actually good enough to make deep playoff runs (not sold on that yet), our D cannot be said to have held up all that well. Giving up 58 points in two games is not a good sign.

Maybe we're underselling Jax and Detroit just a bit. Are they going deep into the playoffs? Probably not, but neither will we. They are both probably .500 ish teams at best, like us.

At the end of the day yes, the D is a big concern.

Honestly, they just have to eliminate the big plays and they'll be fine.

Detroit ran 61 plays for 425 yards. They gained 260 yards on 7 of those 61 plays. That means that they only gained 165 yards over the remaining 54 plays.

Good gravy -- that's absurd. I had read that we've given up more 20+ and 40+ yard plays than anyone else this season, but those numbers are insane. So on 7 plays they averaged 37 years per play, and on the remaining 54 plays, they averaged 3 yards per play. Yikes.

Higher tech than I thought -- I was thinking smoke signals or passenger pigeons.

Tired of hearing this BS about communication. If you're 3 years into your program and communication is still an issue, you either have the wrong players or you're the wrong coach. Either way, fix it already.

Smoke signals left when the name changed.

Honestly it is both. Wrong coaches. Wrong players. Not sure it is fixable.

Only way this team is ever fixed is if we hire some young unknown who turns out to be a great OC/DC and we make him a HC. Because no established anyone is coming to play for Snyder. Either that or we start drafting and working FA so well that our personnel overshadows our Coaching woes.

Last thing I remember we had a ton of cap space and some good young pieces and somehow we got worse. It is a huge fail.

I can't get on board with the idea that the sky is falling yet. Perhaps it is, but it's really too early to tell. It's been two games against two pretty good teams.

I just see inconsistency, which can be fixed.

At the end of the year the Jags and the Lions will not be considered pretty good teams, and it isn’t just the third game it is the third year now. As always love your optimism Chief. Seriously.
