Angelo Crowell? Rumor has it we're interested in his services as an OLB. He'd be cheap.
Solid player. |
Re: 2009 Free Agents
He looks like a good, inexpensive pickup, if he's over his knee injury. I like this rumor better than Haynesworth. Who else has been on the Redskins' radar? It's been relatively quiet, huh?

JLC also mentioned Chris Canty. |
Re: 2009 Free Agents
Canty and Crowell would be smart upgrades IMO.

Well looks like the Tuna may be going after Jason Brown. :(

Re: 2009 Free Agents
crowell is one of those solid unspectacular LBs that you can get cheaply every year... and we always seem to pass on them (brandon short a couple years ago etc).
LB depth would be a nice thing to have, and i don't know why the team has ignored it for 2-3 years... |
Re: 2009 Free Agents
Canty and Crowell would be smart upgrades IMO.
I'd like to have both for sure. I know SmootSmack and a few others kicked around the idea of Landon Johnson to help the LB situation. He restructured his deal and will stay a Panther. Re: 2009 Free Agents
I think Canty would be a very solid addition to the team. Fletcher's apparently pushing hard for Crowell.
|
Re: 2009 Free Agents
As a follow up question to the possibility of signing AH... I'm almost completely baffled how we could afford him. From what I've read he's demanding about $15 mil per year on the books i.e. against a team's cap. Even after cutting Springs we'd only have about $10 mil in space and the only other player who we could cut to free up enough to make this work... Jason Taylor?
|
Re: 2009 Free Agents
Falcons could release Keith Brooking. Heres a guy who can play inside and out.
|
Re: 2009 Free Agents
I like Angelo Crowell or Michael Boley... solid guys with probably lower price tags. Also, Chris Canty is great but probably abit more expensive but get him if we can afford it.

at 100mill it's be about 11mill actual 2009 impact, springs and taylor free up 14.5. that's oversimplifying it a bit, but it's doable... that'd basically be the entire offseason though, signing hall would be a lot harder now that griffin's restructuring (meaning you can't cut him to save 4mill anymore). |
Re: 2009 Free Agents
what about Donnie Edwards? the guy can flat out play, and i wouldn't think he would command top dollar
|
Re: 2009 Free Agents
Edwards is going to be 36 in April, the guy can still play but I'd be nervous about his play dropping off suddenly due to his age. Plus he's not a physical kind of LB. Not sure he would fit in this scheme.

Two Virginia guys, I can get on board with that. Draft Eugene Monroe and then we'd be doing something :) |

Now your talkin my language SC. Eugene Monroe is my first choice of all draft prospects. Unfortunatly, he will probably be gone. Offensive Tackle 6’ 6” 315 lbs. Virginia Strengths: Size, Agility, Run Blocking, Pass Protection, ability to start. This would be a great year to get a stud OT |
Re: 2009 Free Agents
Some pretty big names cut today
Warrick Dunn Ike Hilliard Cato June Derrick Brooks Joey Galloway Jeremy Bridges DJ Hackett |
Re: 2009 Free Agents
Just Heard DJ Hackett got released by the Panthers......what do you guys think? Cato June aslo released.
I know last year we wanted Hackett but I guess he turned out to be a bust for the Panthers |

Looks like Tampa is gearing up for their big Haynesworth run

Yup, hopefully they'll save us from ourselves (like the Bengals did last year) and make Haynesworth an offer he cant refuse. signing haynesworth is about they only thing they can do to meet the salary floor this year. what are they now, 60M under the cap? As far as theyre released players, id be interested in Cato June. Id certainly rather him play OLB for 2M/year than have Jason Taylor play there at 8.5. |
Looks like Tampa is gearing up for their big Haynesworth run
So much for their being little interest in teams signing him to a big money deal. |
Re: 2009 Free Agents
The Redskins should do anything to ensure that they have a solid offensive line in 2009. As mentioned by some others, moving Samuels to RT would be a smart move. It's going to be interesting to see how the Redskins handle the draft this year. They only have 4 picks.

I think Samuels moving to RT would be a smart move, but we dont draft high enough to select a stud LT in the 1st round and there is no one in FA who i would sign who would be an upgrade over Samuels at LT. I think our best bet is to draft an OT with our first pick, start him at RT this year and if he looks like a stud, move him to LT and Samuels to RT in 2010. |

I wonder if we'll dodge a bullet by not signing Haynesworth, just like when we did not trade for Dre Bly or Lance Briggs. Although if AH goes to Tampa and has a Pro Bowl year, I can see people complaining about it. I think I'd almost put money on it (almost, we're in bad economic times). |

... June is a guy I'd be very interested in... over Boley and even over Crowell cuz of those knee issues. Interesting possibility.
Since Cato Jone was brought up, here's the Stats Inc profile on him... Cato June, LB 2008 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc. Grade: 68 | Key Alert: None Comment: June moved from the weak outside linebacker position he was playing in Indianapolis to the strong outside linebacker position for the Buccaneers. He is undersized for the position, but plays with good instincts and is very athletic. He plays with a good motor and is very competitive going to the ball. He has the intelligence to play on either side and not miss a beat. He does a good job of recognizing blocking schemes and is quick to locate the level of the ball. He takes good angles and can adjust on the move. He can struggle when he has to take on and defeat blockers while at the point of attack and generally has to run around most blockers rather than take them on. He is not the strongest tackler and does not always come under control before contact, which can cause him to miss his share of tackles. He looks athletic when dropping into space and does a good job of defending the pass. He can close on the ball and shows ball skills when he gets to the area. While he probably fits the weak side linebacker spot better, he can be effective playing on the strong side, as well. |
Re: 2009 Free Agents
Ken Lucas maybe gone from Carolina and will soon be on the long list to replace Carlos Rogers and/or Shawn Springs.
Also, DJ Hackett was released. Maybe, he'll come crawling to Zorn? |

Re: 2009 Free Agents
Cato June, yeah he looks undersized to play the strong side, those Indy LBs are always athletic and quick but will probably get 'pancaked' alot in our system. I still prefer Crowell, he IMO is good vs the run but June probably has better coverage skills.

Sweet. Nothing like giving the least accurate kicker the league 7 million. |
Re: 2009 Free Agents
the LC move was stupid on LC's part. giving up 6mill gauranteed as a 31 year old WR with a bad foot is a bit silly.
