I'd say he cares enough to fight for an extension or a new contract

if he doesn't do decently this year he's hoping for a starting position in the NFL

He won't be displaced as the #1, but overall, he's got to light it up this year. Period. Otherwise, there's no big paycheck from this team or anyone else.

Good statement. Jason has been in trouble for along time now and its catching up with him and after a piss poor performance tonight like last week, I now don't believe he will be in there log. If he doesn't do something to change what ever is wrong, it will just get only worse.

If they stay healthy Portis gets 1,600- 2,000 yards. That is if Clinton himself can stay healthy and that we iron out our QB problems.

He is the starter but he also needs reps in the offense, its not like he is a WCO vet. No excuses this yr.

i love what i saw tonight from the 2nd & 3rd string players defensively we are good. I like the pressure Orapko & even Chris Wilson put on the QB. Marko Mitchell will make the team has much more upside than Hackett. Chase made the 3rd string QB battle interesting Colt must have been thinking about Simpson when he threw that pick LOL

CB looked good until that last one, he has to protect the ball, especially in the redzone. Id rather see him throw it away and take the 3 than do what he did trying to force a play

I dont think Jason looked as bad as his numbers say. He looked pretty poised to me.

Well no matter how you look you don't want to look at the stats page and see 1/7 with 10 yards, whether it's your fault or not.

That is my point. He knows he is #1 on the roster and doesn't care about performance. Zorn needs to have an open competiton for QB and light fires under some asses. WE all talk about how we shouldn't anoint Brennan or because of tonights performance Daniels, but we have annointed JC as almost untouchable. This is what has baffled me the past 2 seasons. The guy is a middle of the pack type NFL starter, if that.

Pretty happy with what I saw out of both Mason and Dorsey. I think Dorsey ultimately actually has a better shot because of his punt return abilities

Yeah and though facing the depth he wasn't going down everytime he got brushed

I didn't really get to see much in pass protection from either though

I've been rooting for Dorsey since we signed him. He seems to be the only returner we have who possesses any zip.

nay and 5/35 isn't 10/70 either you know

there were circumstances but what's the best he could've pulled from that.. 4/7 aka 57pct or so?

i guess he needs his reps.. and I think that zorn is messing up by not giving them to him

By the end of the week 3 game, we'll have something substantial to say about Campbell's development. Even then it won't be much, but we'll be able to say "he looks better" or "he doesn't look any better".

Until then, his performance is more or less an expected constant, in my eyes at least.

Given the penalties, the best he could have done was about 3/7 for 25-30 yards. The fact that he didn't execute perfectly on a play or two, plus a deep ball that wasn't perfectly thrown, doesn't bother me at all.
It burns to see other starting QB's tear it up and ours is sputtering along.. yes its preseason but still...
Why does it burn? What is being proven in one quarter of play?

Good story: last year in the first quarter of games, Tyler Thigpen was a better quarterback than Peyton Manning, who won the MVP. If they both got pulled after two drives every game, the only difference would have been contract numbers.

Next week, we'll get to see 10-15 passes from Campbell, which should help a little. Zorn apparently doesn't need to see him read a defense because half of his passes are one receiver designed plays. No idea what the point of that is in the context of a preseason game.

THing is JC should be given some comeptition to raise his game. Why is the guy untouchable? He is not a Manning brother, Roethlisberger, Brady, McNabb, etc. He is average at best and the winning percentage of our team reflects this. It was Collins that came in when JC was hurt, went undefeated and got us in the playoffs. It is debatable at best if JC could have done the same.

I liked the first play call... but yes it was well covered and jason campbell either by design or whatever didn't think about throwing anything BUT that ball, kind of hard to say what could have been, so we can only work with the reality

even if he went 6/7 on the next 7 we'd still be looking at 7/14, I don't know.. I need to see more chemistry between him and the receivers

It seemed that throw was decided at the moment of the snap.

We always had strong QB depth in the Ramsey days, but if we released all of our QBs tomorrow, only Campbell would be employed next week.

I understand that, but still being calm doesn't mean complete passes, first downs, or scores. I think Zorn needs to give JC a nice workout next game.

The second deep ball went to Moss, and while it wasn't well thrown, I don't see exactly what Zorn was looking to accomplish on that play.

Considering he came back and ran the ball on the next down, I just don't get it. Are we trying to get in 3rd and long?

Maybe. But on that first play I thought Kelly was open for a big gainer. JC threw the ball poorly, the defense caught up with Kelly, and Kelly couldn't reach it. I thought that play was a potential td until the errant pass. IMO.

Yeah, but we are not going to get anywhere with JC. We will always hover around .500 ball. And as for the Ramsey days? Shane Matthews and Danny Wuerffel? Strong QB depth my ass!!!!

Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Game Thread

a lot of positives today. for those who are knocking JC's 1/7, remember many were calling for those deep shots, and they probably did loosen up Pitt's D. We didn't see Palamalou reeking havoc, and our lines looked good.

The starting D on the first drive showed the fierceness I want to see, and Haynesworth just drove his guys up the field.

I am happy with this game. JC after the game said he didn't know Kelly had the burst and that's why he underthrew him. Ok, but haven't they been practicing?

Our Receiving corps will be very good. you wait and see. Kelly and Mitchell both have shown great hands. DT will find his niche, and Moss/ARE/Cooley will be gold.

And yet the game ends in typical Skins fashion, 4 point lead, other team with the ball, and fingers crossed. Can we blow out NE and payback (albeit preseason) the regular season game a few years ago. PLEASE!

GO SKINS!

Definitely and yeah not sure why again.. and for the play calling unless it was strictly to just see what was there and nothing more

I'm suspect of Zorn's play calling as it is though
