Bye bye then Laron, will fit in perfect there will his trash talking after tackling someone after they already gained 20 yards --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?b0ca0i |
Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
Jets actually wouldnt be that bad of a fit for Laron. Still think we should at least give him a 1 year offer. Safety market is worse that that Tackle market.

After overpaying Mark Sanchez, I will believe anything coming from the Jets. |

i agree atleast make an offer, i think we will. hes a rare talent we are going to miss having him out there. i can see him with the Jets, coming from every angle on rex's blitzes reeking havoc. |

And missing a tackle. LOL. I kid, I kid. I can't fault a team for gambling on Laron. If he wasn't for his health issues, I'm sure keeping him would not have been a problem. |
Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
Hmm...Paulsen said that one of LL's people said that he is not necessarily done in DC. But he also said that the Redskins won't be making the first offer.

Smart move by the Skins FO. I think Landry, along w/ his supporters, are in for a shock when they see how modest the offers for his services will be after two lousy seasons and the uncertainty of his recovery. Laron has done the team no favors...ever. No point in extending him one. |
Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
Seems like the Jets and EAGLES are the strongest contenders for LaRon now. Makes me sick...either team.
However, since he still has not had surgery for some insane reason, I don't think we have to worry about him doing much damage against us, but seeing him in an Eagles uniform will make me puke. He was one of my favorite current Skins. |

Do they need a new strength & conditioning coach? I can't see him doing anything else. |

Maybe he can resurrect his career with either the Eagles or the Jets. |
Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
Bears are reportedly interested too.
Just shows how close the line between great and a disaster can be in the NFL. Area 51 could have been so great...if only. |
Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
Saying LL was destined to be a bust is highly overrated. During the half a season that Landry and Taylor played together our secondary was playing amazing. With Landry patrolling the box Taylor was able to become the ballhawking safety we all envisioned (5 picks in the first half of 07) and we were all talking about how we were set at the safety position for years to come.
08 and 09 Landry fell off when they tried to move him to FS and he struggled to adjust, mainly because he's not a guy you can trust in space. But when Haslett joined the Skins with Shanny in 2010, the first half of 2010 saw Landry moved back to SS where he once again started balling his ass off before he got injured, and ever since then he's never been the same player. He definitely has the potential to be a playmaker in this defense, all we have to do is put him in a position to succeed (aka in the box SS), minimize how often he gets left alone in coverage, and make sure that he's completely healthy. |

It took a while before the Cowboys realized it with Roy Williams even though the glitzy hits were great to look at on Sportscenter. It's also the reason why the Patriots just up and released their 2 time pro-bowl safety Brandon Meriweather with no real backup in place. Sigh. This is one of those things you don't normally hear about where the player sacrifices for the team. It's just a shame the way things have turned out. |
Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
Said he hurt it when he shot up his ankle. Doesn't mean he tore his achilles becuase of the shot.
As part of the job you're expected to play hurt w/in reason. In hindsight you can always say any injury wouldn't have happened if... If there's really a correlation here & there was medical advice for him not to play, then I have some sympathy. Otherwise, it's football & everyone gets hurt, everyone has a short career compared to other professions. Sadly, his may be on the down side, I'm just not so eager to blame the Skins or deem him a total team player, just cause he tweets that he got hurt when his ankle was shot up. |

He would make one or two highlight reel hits but also give up a TD or two and a bunch of first down catches per game. That is not my definition of a guy "balling his ass off"... |

Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
So I haven't really been keeping up with the Landry news. What chance do we all think Landry has of resigning with the skins? And if that percentage is low, do we have a backup plan at safety?
|
Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
Low, unless no one else wants to roll the dice on his Achilles and he comes back cheaper just to stay in the league.
The Jets, Bears, Lions are interested from what I've heard. Philly was but seems to have bowed out. Right now, we have one FS and one SS on the roster under contract. DeJon Gomes and Reed Doughty. I expect we'll move Kevin Barnes to FS, probably more out of necessity than preference but he did play great there when he had to fill in. We're bringing Brandon Meriweather (nothing special) in for a visit but right now we basically have no depth at safety. I like Gomes, he played well last year and Barnes is better at safety than CB. Doughty, he's basically a body on the field. Occasionally makes good plays but they get canceled out. Seems like we can't get rid of him. Wonder what Chris Horton is up to these days> Phone call? :D |
Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
I don't see anyone kicking down his door. I think we have a decent chance at bringing him back. The FO is smart in letting him see what's out there.

The Redskins are having safety Brandon Meriweather come in for a visit today. Hopefully, they will sign him to a deal in order to fill a pressing need @ strong safety. |

After looking at that dreadful Patriot defense all last year, they must make upgrades. If they sign Landry, it would be good for him to go into a consistent winning organization and contribute. Hopefully, if they strike a deal, Landry can stay healthy. |

Landry does not know it, but he's a masochist whose career is going to go the route of Bob Sanders circa now because he likes neglecting that Achilles of his. |

Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
My enduring memory of Landry will be of him taking shit from a Seahags fan the whole game last season (I was sat one row behind the Redskins bench) and at the end he came over and chatted to him 'politely', blew him kisses etc. also joined by Rex and a couple of others.
Hilarious. |
I'll miss LL, I wanted him to take over after Sean, he had a great playoff game in Seattle and he was a very good player for us.. the hit on Robinson in Dallas this year was vintage LL

wow, if this is based on any real conversations w/Skins staff, pretty much says that the writing's been on the wall for a while now. I wish we could sign him to a cheap deal to prove he can get back, but that looks so unlikely now. In addition to the injuries being a problem, his attitude & poor fundamentals don't fit in w/the shanny way. |
Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
I don't LL is signing with NE who signed Gregory from the Chargers. Chung and LL (if healthy) would be a lethal combination.

I think he'll sign with Detroit when it's all done. |

Good riddance! Go to the Jets and pick up needless penalties along with getting hurt again.

Change thread title to something of the effect "Laron Landry - Jet for 2 Seasons?"
