That is my hope. Every year some team comes from out of nowhere and next year it might as well be us. We need a real QB, though, before it can happen. |
Yeah I believe there is some truth behind that. Looking back at the culture and methods of the front office, just wasnt smart. I think the move to pick up D Hall mid season and then to pay him a effing ridiculous contract shortly there after really pissed off Carlos. He coulda kept it professional but his lashing out every now and then just pissed off everyone, but that what the skins were, a drama filled circus. Change of scenery can be very beneficial for players, it was in Carlos's case.
That is exactly what happened, thank Vinny "the village idiot" for signing Hall and Haynesworth. I was extremely pissed at those moves, while many were saying we are going to the SB. I said the Giants made the right moves at the time signing Canty, Boley, Bernard and others. How did it turn out? |

Of course we need a QB and we'll get one. At the same time as the Giants and 49ers have proved, you need a strong OL and D. We have the D and need to focus on the OL and CB in addition to QB. If we can't get RGIII, I say trade down make a run at David DeCastro or Jonathan Martin, we would get an extra pick in either the 1st or 2nd and make a run at young QB in the draft. Drafting smart like last year will fix this team of many problems. The young OL Hurt, Smith, Polumbus, proved we now have depth at the OL. |
Re: Around The NFL - Divisional Round
The reality is Rogers wanted a long term big $$ deal and the Skins weren't willing to give him what he wanted. Nobody else wanted to pay him either at the time, as evident by the fact he signed a 1 year deal with SF. Good for him that he played well this year and likely earned his big payday. He moved on, so should we.

Leaving the disfunction of the Skins is why a lot of players that leave the Skins suddenly seem to play better than they ever have. I also think its why players that dont seem very talented often play very good in solid organizations like NE, Pgh & Balt. That said I do think that MS is getting rid of the culture of disfunction in Wash. |

I think this happens to every team in the NFL. It seems that the two everyone is making a fuss about is Carlos and Andre, and both of them left for very understandable reasons that had nothing to do with how bad our management is and such. The redskins didn't want to pay Carlos big money, MattyK pointed it out, NO ONE ELSE DID. Now that he finally held on to some picks, he'll get that big pay day finally. I thought we, as a fan base, were tired of over paying players? If we had given Carlos a top 5 CB contract, wouldn't that just be overspending again? I also would like to mention that no one else brings up Ladell Betts, Rock Cartwright, Randy Thomas, Casey Rabach, Randel El, Fred Smoot and others who were released and allowed to walk. |
Re: Around The NFL - Divisional Round
I just saw the NE didn't beat single a team in the regular season that finished over .500. Crazy.
And I know it's a few days late, but can someone please tell me why Gregg Williams is such a highly touted coordinator? His defenses have sucked for years now. Sure when the Saints won the SB they forced a ton of turnovers that year, but overall his track record is ho-hum at best IMO. Not too many people make Alex Smith look like a pro-bowler. |
I kinda agree w SF, I believe we are closer than most would think but it will come down to how good RGIII really is

I Peyton becomes a free agent... id like to sign him and draft foles to watch and learn.

Just heard on espn980 that Dez Bryant got arrested at a night club in Miami... Not seeing anything else about it, so stay tuned I guess.

I would not give more than a 3rd and a possible conditional for next year. He would be a risky investment at his age and coming from neck surgery. |

Given his history, if I were a bartender I would not let him run a tab. Cash up front, Dez. Good thing the Cowboys overlooked his character concerns. :) |
Re: Around The NFL - Divisional Round
Another page of Carlos Rogers talk. Understand that we already had a bummed out corner who wanted out in Champ Bailey. Had Champ been allowed to test free agency, he would have gotten a HUGE ass payday because he showed it in his play here. Meanwhile, with first-class bitch Carlos, NOBODY wanted to even give him even a Drayton Florence-like contract (or he didn't want to take it) and instead had to "settle" for a show-me-what-you-got one year deal.

Re: Around The NFL - Divisional Round
Dashon Goldson reminds me of Sean Taylor.
I hope the Skins look like SF next year. I hope the Skins look like NYG (in the playoffs) in years to follow. |

Re: Around The NFL - Divisional Round
Next year the Redskins will be this years 49ers, mark my words.
I don't see us going from 13th in the league in defense to a dominating, top 5 defense like San Fran. Unless we make some big pick ups in FA for the secondary, I don't think we will have enough draft picks to address all our secondary concerns this year. Especially if we are giving up picks to move up. |

I wasn't saying trade for manning, if and only if he becomes a free agent

Re: Around The NFL - Divisional Round
Media darlings Aaron Rogers and Drew Brees lost. Too bad! Ha!
It is a fact the NFL changed the rules of the game over the last 10 to 15 years years to increase passing. Allowing offensive lineman to hold, denying DB's any contact on receivers after 3.5 yards from scrimmage and all of the rules to protect Qb's and defenseless recievers . Now we have Qb's breaking records right and left and the media wants us to to believe it is all that these QB's are better than the ones that played before. Wrong. There are great players on defense in the NFL as well. Well now there is justice. The teams that have bought into the NFL's attempt to make the NFL a "QB driven league" and are hyper dependent on throwing the ball are getting beat in the playoffs. Balanced teams that run the ball as many times as they pass and commit to running the ball are doing well. Atlanta that gave away most of their draft picks for ONE WR are at home. They thought they were one WR away from the promise land. NO. NOW we already have media bitches today saying a Ravens vs. 49ers SB would be boring. Well Tom Terrific and the Pats are 0-2 against teams over .500 recors this year. Ravens can beat them because they have a running game and a good defense. Which New England defense will show next weekend? The one that played a weak Tebow offense or the one that got slammed all season this year? I say the bad one. |
Re: Around The NFL - Divisional Round
2 defensive teams are left along with 2 QB driven ones. Sounds about right.

Giants, 49ers, Ravens, Patriots. 3 of those teams are coming in with hot QB's. Two of which are number one overall picks (don't know the last time we were able to say something like that). The Ravens are the only ones without a QB capable of carrying them right now and that could easily change in a moments notice. |
Re: Around The NFL - Divisional Round
Maybe we've got his thing all wrong. Screw worrying about the QB situation and hope the Skins draft guys to bolster the defense even more.
|
Re: Around The NFL - Divisional Round

The Packers and Saints are nothing but offense. Sure the Packers have a few playmakers on the defensive side of the ball, but overall they're terrible. To allow 37 points in a home playoff game as a 15-1 defending champ.... Inexcusable. Same reason I don't see NE winning it all. San Fran could win the whole thing. They really could. As much as a I want see a Harbaugh bowl, I think San Fran-NE would be a really fun match up. |

With the exception of the Ravens the other 3 teams got to the Conference Championship with a lot of fire power on offense. The runt of the offensive litter this past week (which excludes the defensive minded Ravens) was the 49ers with 36 points (Giants 37, Bronco's 45). Not saying defense isn't important but without offense you can't beat a team like the Saints, especially when they put up 32 points. I will say though that defense has been a big reason the Giants are playing next week. Shutting out the Falcons offense and then holding the Packers to 20 points. |

To this I would add that while Flacco may underachieve somewhat, he's not terrible. One could argue that this weekend shows that a good to elite QB is required for winning championships now. We need at least a very good, and hopefully elite, QB. |

Yeah, I mean consider that Drew Brees took the number 1 defense in the league for 32 points. Usually thats more then enough to win. |

Well look at it this way. With Greg Williams gone, maybe they can get a decent defense and dominate the league with multiple super bowl wins the next few years. ;) |

..and all of the QB stars except Tom Brady are at home wondering why the their Superman cape the NFL gave them did not work this last weekend. Brady has an uphill battle to make it to the big game. Guess the NFL will have to change more rules so their designated money makers can make it next year. Ten guys on defense or only four men can rush the passer. |

Right now I'm predicting a New England/San Francisco Super Bowl. Which Tom Brady will loose because he will be unable to summon the courage to beat his childhood team :D Also keep in mind that right next to the Superman capes of Brees and Rodgers sits a Super Bowl ring. |

I dont really know what you are talking about. Manning, Smith & Brady are all QB stars. Flacco isnt quite in their league. All the remaining teams also play good D. The league had to open things up because fans just werent interested in watching 9-6 games. The NFL is more exciting now than it has ever been and they will never change the rules to go back to the boring old days. |

May I point also just as mike Goalic(sp) did this morning that the 2 really bad calls in the Packer game kept the drive from ending so they would not have scored had those BS calls not been made to extend the drives. |

In the case of the NFL opening up the game has worked. In the NBA it has all but failed, as one of the most frequent complaints about the NBA is that no one plays defense. |
