Matty's already warned everyone once here. Leave the bickering out of this thread
And Dean...what the hell? Not racial discrimination, but you don't expect a black QB to lead an NFL team??? |

You seem to have picked up on some animosity from me, which is not there. I didn't come to this thread to try to win an argument. I don't agree with your arguments at all but I'm glad you're here, the discussion has been stimulating and worthwhile. |
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
Dean and CultBrennan, who have similar sad racial views on QB's, appear to be time travelers from the 17th century.

You need to explain yourself. There needs to be a good reason why you believe a black QB won't "lead a team go further". And the reason better not be racist or peace out. |

Doug Williams anyone? I know it's been a long time since that magical game but come on. Maybe he should have mentioned the probability of a black QB going all the way. 32 teams/3 (maybe 4 depending on where JC goes) starting black QBs in the league. I would take all of them on my team except for Vick. Yes, even JC. |

Seriously. That ignorant comment on a message board for the only team to win a Super Bowl with a black QB. Ridiculous. |

Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
LOVE RGIII, however, if Manning is healthy (I know-impossible to tell) and available it would be irresponsible for us not to strongly pursue him. The nerve regeneration is something that can literally happen overnight. Marcellus Wiley was talking about this the other day, he had a similar nerve issue in his leg and had no explosiveness for 8 weeks into the season he said. He had 1.5 sacks and then literally from one day to the next, his nerve 'fired' and he was back to 100% immediately and racked up an additional 10 sacks the rest of the season.
Now of course, that's grapes and grapefruits but the point is short and long term, Manning is the play. For the short term he is obviously the best bet to improve our chances to win. Long term since we'd have to likely give up multiple high picks to get Griffin that will impede our rebuilding process so to acquire Manning and keep our now and future picks, draft a QB in the 2nd round (or even trade back into the 1st to get Tannehill at a lesser cost than going up for RGIII) would be better for the long term build of the roster. |

Good points. Acquiring Manning does not necessarily mean that we won't be rebuilding. As you say, a healthy Manning actually gives us the best chance to rebuild, especially if we BA works his magic and we trade down. With a healthy Manning, I wouldn't mind seeing the following: Rd 1: Blackmon (yeah I know a longshot at #6) Rd 2: Cousins/Osweiller Rd 3: O-lineman |

His intangibles alone are enough to make a case for him. Imagine Manning on offense and Fletcher on defense. NO player would have an excuse for 'not knowing how to be a pro' looking at them. |

Other than Luck, there is no QB in the draft I think is worth staking our future on, which is why going after manning makes so much sense. it would allow us to use our picks this year to build some talent and debt to surround the QB. To be honest, id love to trade down in the first and pick up another 1st rounder in 2013... two 1st rounders would go a long way to help us secure barkley next year. He's the guy i think would be ideal as a future franchise QB. Let him learn under manning for 2 or 3 years. |
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
So if we sign Peyton before the draft, do we draft RGIII if he falls to us? I say yes since it would solidify or QB situation for the next decade.

Yes, at this point I would be okay with Vick or Roethlisburger as long as we started winning again....actually no I wouldn't....well maybe Vick as he paid his debt to society with his jail time. |

This is probably the best case scenario...although RG3 at #6 could also land us many suitors in a trade (Miami, Cleveland, Seattle, etc., etc.). |

That would be weird, though. Because those two are completely different players, you'd literally have to start from scratch in terms of building your offense when RG3 takes over. I'd still like it to happen (just because it opens up so much for us), but if RG3 falls to us (which I don't see happening), I'd rather trade out of 1.6 and acquire more picks. |

i agree with doing a trade down in that scenario. RGIII and manning are two completely different types of quarterback. I know this may seem like a stupid statement, but i can't see RGIII really benefiting much from sitting behind manning for 2 or 3 years. it could even stunt his development. i think if we decided to go with manning, our primary strategy should be to surround him with as much talent as possibe. that means not using high picks on another QB. |

Hopefully the Browns take Blackmon and no one wants to give up a bunch of picks for RG. I'm just tired of backup Qb's under center. If we get Peyton and RG isn't available we must trade back and fill some holes. |

If Peyton comes back, it will be because he thinks he can play 2-3 more years. If we signed him, it would also be because we think he can play 2-3 more years. |

Yes, but the only one with a chip on their shoulder would be Manning. I am willing to give MS the benefit of the doubt with McNabb (I still think it was a terrible idea, but whatever). But our entire FO deserves to fired if they signed an unhealthy Manning or if MS is not able to fit his defense to a healthy Manning. As it has been mentioned before, signing Manning will only cost us money. Regardless of whether we get Manning or not, the key will be for his FO to get their QB of the future. Either by trading up for RG3 or getting a Tannehill/Cousins/Osweiller/etc. |

Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
I've seen video clips of Tannehill. He's very good. He has good size, a strong arm, and he can scramble very well. He has a quick release. His game is very effective and in time he would benefit any NFL offense. But he's a project at best. I see him getting drafted late in the first round at the earliest. In the case that the Redskin sign Peyton Manning, and I don't think Allen and Shanahan will, then Tannehill being drafted would make sense. But everyone isn't Tom Brady. Meaning if success is gained in today's NFL, then you have to draft your QB in the first round, and that means sidestepping Manning and drafting RG3.

I don't see how we could not have a Favre/Rodgers situation where we draft a QB late in the first round and have him sit in the bench and learn from a legend. I have no basis to compare Tannehill as a prospect vs. Rodgers as a prospect, nor am I saying that Tannehill is the same prospect as Rodgers was coming out. However, I don't see anything wrong with growing our own QB and still get a good (possibly great) FA like Manning. |

It would be nice to have a young QB learning from Manning. I think they need to have 3 QBS on the active roster this year. Manning, Grossman (ugh), Rookie |

While I agree with you, why Grossman and not Beck? Grossman is a FA and we've seen his 'best'. Why not just keep Beck in his final year of the contract, give him a full offseason and have him as the #3 QB? Don't get me wrong, Beck sucks but you don't bring in Manning and draft a QB early with the intention that your 'other' backup is going to get much playing time. |

Manning is an injury risk, and if you acquire a young QB they're most likely going to need some time to develop. Depth chart should be Manning/Rex/drafted QB. EDIT: I should have prefaced this post. That should be the depth chart as long as the Skins are in contention, obviously if they're mathematically eliminated it would be wiser to give the young QB some live PT. |
