Brett Farve made sense for once. Funny I'm using a post from an article with a spelling error.

"I'm not pissed," Favre said. "It's football. I don't think anything less of those guys. I'm not going to make a big deal about it. In all honesty, there's a bounty of some kind on you on every play."
You don't reward a player for trying to get someone carted off the field, that is not the culture of football. Not at any level
Players have been getting handouts for years, not for carting guys off the field but for things like...int's, forcing turnovers, most tackles, sacks, special teams hits and so on....this has gone on for years and it went on here when Gibbs 1 coached. Williams crossed the line if he wanted someone severly injured. But all these things I mentioned is not a big deal.

Well it's technically illegal (from a CBA/Salary Cap standpoint) but I agree that in the grand scheme rewarding someone for things like turnovers are not a big deal. But these bounties reportedly go beyond that.

And he'll still be laughing unless their Super Bowl victory is stripped from them; since, after all, that is the ultimate goal of playing in the NFL (for some).

Sharper says he knows who the "snitch" is and said the player had a vendetta against the team. It's probably pretty obvious who it is if we just look at the teams through the years. Its someone who was not on the team last season (told the nfl about it last year), and someone who was on the team when the allegations began. I haven't done any research about this but Shockey and Brown come to mind as possibilities.

.......evidently you're incorrect becuase if the NFL is going to fine your players take away draft picks from your team and suspend your head coach and bann your former D cordinator.....it's a big deal.

Looks like Gibbs 1.0 was handing out cash himself for "big plays". Granted, it was under the rules at the time because there were no rules regarding this.
"In the meeting after the game, Joe Gibbs would come in, he’d have a fistful of $100 bills," Starke told ESPN on Monday night, via The Washington Post. "And if Dexter (Manley) knocked the quarterback down three times, he would get three $100 bills. And Joe would pass the money out in the meeting, and we would have to duck."

Gibbs told the Post on Tuesday that such incentive-based pay was within NFL rules at the time.

"In my first stint coaching the Redskins, we did have an incentive program in place to recognize the guys for outstanding plays made within the rules of the game," Gibbs said. "Back then there was no salary cap and the incentive program we used was within the league rules. We had all kinds of incentives, including dinners at local restaurants, radios, the chance to sit in a La-Z-Boy recliner during team meetings and cash rewards. To be clear -- we only used rewards as a motivational tool and to recognize the guys who made positive plays in the game each week."
Yes. It's not like Gibbs 1.0 was warned by the league for breaking rules (and the rules were different) and then egregiously continued.

Re: New Orleans Saints/Washington Redskins: Bounty Hunters

Not only was it legal under Allen and Gibbs 1.0, but the medical community didn't understand the repercussions of repeated concussions on players. My whole family was going crazy when Dexter Manley knocked Danny White out in the playoffs and I'm sure he got a "bonus" the next day. But I don't think anybody viewed it as hurting him, just knocking him out.

I didn't post that to say OMG LOOK GIBBS WAS DOING IT. I even said there were no rules in regards to this type of activity. I posted to show it's was/is a common thing.

One of the issues, and in the end the one that makes it a big problem, is that the Saints and GW were told they were being looked into, and told to stop specific practices. They agreed and said they would, but then kept doing it. I am sure there were ways they could have altered it, and been in compliance with what the league was looking for, but they chose not.

That's a problem, and they are probably gonna get hammered.

Starke should just be quiet. Trying to make Gibbs out to be a liar by trying to get him mixed up with Gregg William's violations of league rules is absurd. There's a difference between awarding players for intentionally hurting another player on the opposing team and rewarding players for a job well done. As Gibbs said, the rules were different during that era. Starke needs to keep his mouth shut and have a coke a smile.

That's it. The Saints aren't really in trouble because of bounties. They are in trouble because they continued the practice after being warned.
