Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
As of now, the word I'm seeing is that it's NOT done with Royal.
Eddie Royal - Denver Broncos - 2012 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com Scout.com: Eddie Royal Profile Either way, we'll have Moss or Royal along with Garcon/Morgan/Gaffney/Hankerson/Paul...so we'll be loaded up at WR with or without him. I think the Garcon and Morgan signings were enough, as we weren't in dire WR help, just needed a #1 which we now have with Garcon and potentially with Hankerson later on. If we don't sign another WR, we'll be in great shape...we just need a RT and DB help now. I expect us to get Brandon Meriweather on the cheap today. No one else will want him. He left Denver last night without a contract. He's depth at least, not an answer but we just need bodies at Safety now with maybe a solid starter in the draft. We only have one FS and one SS in Gomes and Doughty, with possibly Barnes being converted. |
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
It would be nice though and adding him with our other cast of recievers would be a benefit to this offense.
Merriweather ischeduled to visit according to a headline in the Hog Haven article regarding Royal. |
Please don't tell me Reed is going to start next year???
|
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
It's a strong possibility.

Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
Like I was saying a plus of Royal signing is we don't need to "waste" a roster spot on a returner
Like I was saying a plus of Royal signing is we don't need to "waste" a roster spot on a returner
Yeah and don't forget that Paul & Robinson have some return experience as well so if both of them are on the '12 roster that saves a spot also. |
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
Unless, we actually save cap money in replacing Moss with Royal, I don't see the need to sign him.
I'd rather keep Moss and let Niles Paul be the return man. Banks would be nice but I think Paul beats him out and there's just no room for Banks, Austin and possibly Armstrong. Shame because Austin was showing promise and Banks was just exciting to have on the team. You can tell, I'm a big Niles Paul fan...hope we can keep him on the roster, even if just for special teams and depth. I watched him in college and he has some huge play ability and obviously plays with a passion. His bank statement will confirm that. |
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
Robinson doesn't have much experience in it, but yes it helps.

Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
Yeah I saw the washington post reporting that Merriweather is visiting here. Whenever Bill Belichick gives up on a player and cuts them, is never a good thing.

I don't think he learned his lesson after Belichek cut him. Early success got to his head. He's not a Pro Bowler any more. He ignores his coaches, freelances too much, and plays out of position a lot. Bears' D improved once he was benched. I don't think he's good for the locker room. |

Plus, last year with the Bears, he got torched worse than Landry ever did while he was at FS. If Meriweather is a starter for us, we'll in sad shape. For depth, I'll take him. I'd be more confident with Doughty back there. |

That doesn't explain getting cut from one of the worst secondaries in the NFL though. (New England) At this point, unless we can find (and afford) clear starters in FA, we just need to fill up camp with some bodies at Safety...and do what we can in the draft. |

It sounds like this Meriweather is not a good safety. I didn't watch any Bears games last season. But to have more confidence in a below average player like Reed Doughty over Meriweather is saying a lot. |
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
We need to step in and steal Brandon Carr out from under the Cowboys, who are trying to fit a deal in with their cap hell.
Mike Adams from the Browns is available. Steve Gregory from SD. William Gay from the Steelers is available at CB. All of these guys other than Carr would be reserves, not solutions...but we need both. |

In the meantime, I'd like for the team to address that position since we have no starters on the roster. |

Doughty is always a step late and that is maddening. But at least he's trying to get to the right spot. Too often Meriweather goes west when he should be going east and that is worse than being a step late. |

This is going to be a classic case of 'you can't fix it all in one offseason' deals. They will likely try to go with Gomes at SS and sign a free agent to play FS or convert Barnes to a FS-although I think he's a bit slow and stiff for that position. |

Yup. Although I hope we make some moves, reluctantly I am mentally preparing to just accept that safety will be a weakness for us. Griffin will need to put up a lot of points to overcome deficits in our secondary. |

This isn't a scheme issue, no matter how many excuses you want to make for a player you like. The fact is he has been benched/cut by two teams now and one of them Bill Belicheat. If BB cuts your ass, chances are we don't want him either. |

You can't fix everything in one offseason, however, it is silly to get another CB when we have two starters. Yes, I know our starting CBs are not perfect, but we have no starters at safety. As I said, I'd be fine with taking a CB if we are moving one our current CBs into the safety spot. |
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
Does anyone know if we have plans to grab Matt Leinart? He sorta makes sense as a bridge for RG3
|
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
Whats interesting to me is that we are able to get Reheem Morris but we dont really seem to be giving him much help. I thought he would be able to draw more weight and get a couple guys he really wants.
Talib is on the last year of his contract and is due 2.2 million this year. Maybe he ends up getting released or traded cheaply? |

I was thinking that, if the current Texans offense was anything like Kyle's. It's better not to switch back and forth between lefties and righties though. Not as a bridge though, a backup. There will be no bridge. |
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
I know the cupboard is a bit bare, but I'd like to see us take a peek at some O-lineman here pretty soon.
|
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
It's not looking positive for Winston. He has 3 visits lined up and we're not one of them. (Miami, KC, STL)
Reported that 10 teams are interested. |
Dallas signs Kyle orton

Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
People need to chill with the CBs, I am sure we will get one. But right now safety sould be a slightly higher priority. I don't want to go with Doughty and Gomes as our starting safeties.
Biggest problem with the way the Redskins are approaching the defense right now is that they are to an extent, being accepting of mediocrity on that side of the ball.
And the problem if you shoot for mediocrity -- and ask anyone who has watched our offense the last two or three years -- is that you typically don't get anything resembling mediocrity. We need to either reinforce our strength (the linebacker level) or fix our weaknesses (secondary, safeties, corner depth, D-Hall). I realize we're too cap restrained to do both, but just pick one or the other and at least try to make an incremental improvement over last year. |

I was thinking along the same lines. Houston just released him days ago so he's a free agent. The Redskins showed interest in Leinart last off season after the lockout ended but with Orton signing with Dallas, the Redskins may pursue Leinart again this year unless he ends up playing for his USC coach in Seattle. |

With Jenkins coming back and everyone else another year into the scheme it is a good possibility that pressure on the QB will increase which could (could) hide any potential weaknesses in the secondary. Time will tell, and there are a lot of moves left to be made. |

Ravens G Ben Grubbs in play?
https://twitter.com/#!/Rich_Campbell/statuses/179993063886831616 I'm surprised. Tackle is a bigger need and he wants paid. He turned down a nice deal from Baltimore. |
