I doubt that he does not at least get franchised. They resign everyone in Buffalo, and the fans, players and GM seem to love Byrd.

Randy Starks??? Has played in a 3-4 before. Only free agent d-linemen in my opinion worth looking at.

I'm assuming you're talking about the DL and not the interior of the OL.

If it ain't Starks, it must be Seymour or Henry Melton. (Darkhorses would be the 2 Seattle guys, Branch and Jason Jones)

If you're talking trade, maybe Darnell Dockett?

Heres some of SI's Free Agents with some quick bios.

When Vinny was running the show around here, I could pretty much guess who he would go after in FA and the first couple rounds of the draft. Now, with Shanny in charge, I usually don't have a clue.

There is a moral in this. If Vinny was using conventional fan "wisdom" to make his picks, it's no wonder he failed on so many of them. Most of us fans don't know jack. I know I don't.

So I take a certain amount of comfort in anticipating that Shanny and his staff will do professional evaluations and add players in FA and the draft that I never even thought of or knew anything about, such as Alfred Morris.

But that won't stop me from speculating.

Would this also suggest that we may be getting some of our cap space back in order to pursue a top tier stud?

Redskins Look North, Work Out CFL Starting Lineman Brian Simmons
By ZAC BOYER | zboyer@freelancestar.com

Brian Simmons, a 6-foot-5, 304-pound offensive lineman who started all 18 games at left tackle for the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats last season, worked out for the Washington Redskins last week, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Simmons, 27, played four seasons in college at Oklahoma, where he was a teammate of left tackle Trent Williams and occasionally started next to him at left guard. He was in New England’s training camp in 2010 after going undrafted, then signed with Hamilton for the 2011 season.

If you don't have much money to spend in FA, don't have your top draft picks -- I think this makes perfect sense. Shanny always likes low round draft picks for O-line, to work with his ZBS. Would be nice if it works, clearly other teams dumped him.

My guess on SS Armond Armstead- Has to pass a physical

Watching the NFC Championship game, I couldn't help thinking "what if we had the balls to do it"? What if we snagged a top receiver like Mike Wallace? The Falcons had a big three Gonzalez, White, and Jones. What if we did the same Resigning Fred D, Garcon, and Wallace. You have a possession guy in Garcon, Speed guy in Wallace and dynamic tight end option in Fred. Match that up with this running game and a dynamic player like RG3 it would be a nightmare to stop. Also if we have a stronger receiving core the better chance that Robert could become a better passer.

Lets do it. :D

However, we need to save some money for a secondary too, or we'll be in the same situation as 2012 with the offense battling its own defense for the most points.

Really? Pay an overpriced WR when we have young talent on the roster?
Why not develop what we have and see what comes of it? Robinson and Hankerson are plenty speedy enough (particularly Robinson) to stretch a defense and go for the deep ball.

Defense my friends. Defense. Our offense is averaging 24+ points a game.

Some people are so silly, a team can't win with a measly 24+ points average. We clearly need to upgrade the offensive skill position set in both FA and the draft. JR, just think a minute, and let the truth of this wash over you. Then you will see that all we need is a better WR, TE and RT. Then we will be all powerful, and opponents offenses will cower as we put up the might 27+ points average. That is the key, always. No opponent can beat you when you score 27 or more points. (it's true, I saw it on the internet).

Re: 2013 Free Agents

We can develop our talent here. Many of you sound like its your purse the Redskins shop with. We have one the most talented cap guys in the industry. We have never had problems getting any player we wanted until this past year and that was only because the league surprised us with a fine on the eve of free agency.

That being said getting a player at one position will not cripple us in other areas. If we address areas of need with players in free agency it gives us the opportunity to address other areas in the draft.

Branden Albert is the one from that list I'd want. Our O-line would be hugely upgraded by this one man's addition.

Some nice CBs on the list too, although I'm not sold on Captain Munenrlyn.

Yeah I agree. I remember SS mentioning McKelvin, and I'm not sold on him after getting benched in buffalo. Sean Smith is a great, tall, physical CB, much like the 2 seattle guys. Albert is the guy to get IMO.

Re: 2013 Free Agents
Skins won't have much dough to throw around next year either. Focus probably needs to be on fixing the defense and continiuing to draft starting-caliber prospects in round 2 and later. I think a shift to the 4-3 would be a boost to the current front seven. Years ago, there seemed to be a slew of DE/LB tweeners coming out of college that fit the 3-4 scheme. Skins decided to switch to the 3-4 when that trend was fading, forcing perhaps prototypical 4-3 DEs Kerrigan and Orakpo (4-3 DE Jenkins, 4-3 DT Cofield) into a 3-4 scheme. But there has been a lot ot talk about that in other threads already.

Trent Williams and his contract deserves a look over. What will be his status for next off-season? Skins need to somehow aquire two quality OTs and a safety this ofseason. I think a significant reason the secondary sucks so bad right now is the lack of pass rush generated with this 3-4 front played by guys who aren't thriving in it in addition to DBs who are in over their head with the coverages that the coaches are drawing up. Will this be another off-season of more questions than answers?
No chance they switch right now, even if it would be the better route to take. We need secondary first. ARC will be a redskin. Do not worry about the cap issue. The redskins will win most of that 18 million back.
Redskins have few restructure candidates

Thanks to the $18 million salary cap penalty they will be hit with this year, the Redskins are about $4 million over their 2013 salary cap number. That sounds like a lot to be over but normally it is something that can easily be handled by restructuring a few contracts. But that will not be easy for the Redskins to do.

The ideal contract for a restructure is one for a player with a high base salary, in the $10 million range or higher, and at least three years remaining. The team and the player get together and work it out so the player gets most of his salary for that year up front in the form of a signing bonus. That allows the team to spread the cap hit for that salary over the remaining years of the contract.

The problem is, the Redskins don’t have many high salaries this year. Their highest 2013 salary is $7.5 million and it belongs to DeAngelo Hall.
