So glad to hear that Griffin III is OK. We definitely need him down the stretch if we're going to get into the playoffs.

I don't think anybody here is discounting the importance and the difficulty of winning out, but I would much rather the Redskins have the path they have now to get to the playoffs, rather than say, the Patriots, Falcons, and Texans.

I would put some of the blame on Williams. It looked like he was late getting over on those TD's.

Re: Ravens at Redskins Post Game Thread (RG3 MRI Result-Sprained Knee)

From Peter King's Monday Morning Quarterback
The forgotten rookie quarterback.

On draft weekend, Michigan State's Kirk Cousins thought there were a lot of teams that might pick him. Washington wasn't one of them, not after taking Robert Griffin III in the first round. But the Redskins took him at pick 102. "I was scratching my head too,'' Cousins said Sunday evening, "I think like a lot of people were."

But Cousins settled into a support role for Griffin, and they became good friends. Cousins, a team source told me, has been an excellent guy for Griffin to bounce ideas and frustrations off of. "A football career is a marathon, not a sprint,'' said Cousins. "And I realize how good it is for my career that I'm in a place where the game is taught so well. If I ever want to coach someday, now I know all about the zone-read scheme, and that's something that may grow in the game as the years go on.''

So Cousins was on the sideline -- "with my overcoat on for about three hours'' -- when Griffin hurt his knee against the Ravens. Washington trailed 28-20, and Cousins got to three five or six passes in haste on the sideline, trying to get the blood flowing a little on a raw day at Fedex Field. He hustled onto the field on 3rd-and-6 from the Washington 40 with 1:42 to go; his crossing-pattern pass to Pierre Garcon was on target, but Garcon got mugged by backup cornerback Chris Johnson, and interference was called. Now Griffin came back for four snaps before the knee was just too painful to move, and back came Cousins. Second-and-20, Baltimore 26. Cousins found Leonard Hankerson open for 15. Now 36 seconds left. Timeout. Third-and-5. Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan called a play with Cousins, in the pocket, instructed to take his time, survey his options, and pick the most open one.

"I didn't like the look I got right away,'' Cousins said. "Something inside me said to take off and try to make a play. That's what you do sometimes as a quarterback. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.''

But how many sometimes come when you're cold off the bench, with your team's playoff life at stake?

Not many sometimes.

"It happened so fast,'' Cousins said. "I definitely didn't want to take a sack. We weren't playing The Little Sisters of the Poor out there. I was out of the pocket, and I just channeled my inner RGIII, and Pierre got open in the corner of the end zone.''

Cousins threw a perfect ball, over one corner and just before the safety came in to hit Garcon. Touchdown.

Now it was 28-26. Two-point conversion. The call was quarterback draw all the way. Cousins saw a hole and made it past the goal line before Ed Reed could blast him. Tie game. Washington got a long punt return and won on Kai Forbath's field goal in overtime.

"One of the things I've learned about being a quarterback,'' said Cousins, and for a minute, he sounded like a Penn professor of Football 101 with a tweed coat on, "is that it's a balance between being a robot and being an artist. On the touchdown to Garcon, that's being an artist; you don't really know how it's going to look, but you've just got to get out of the pocket and create something. On the two-point conversion, you're a robot. You take the play and do what's called, because you know if it's blocked the right way and set up the right way, it'll work -- the quarterback just executes it."

Cousins did his first NFL spike in the end zone after the robot play. When he got to the sideline, Griffin hugged him and said, "Thank you." A region of fans said the same thing.
This season since our bye week, has been magical! I don't think I have enjoyed watching the 'skins play nearly as much as I have these past four weeks! Not in a long time, anyway! No matter if this team makes it into the post season or not, this team is something special.

Cousins is the real deal. If he was in the 2013 draft he might have been the best prospect out of the bunch though I think its probably safer to say that Geno Smith is a better prospect.

This year he might be tied with Tannehill for the 4th best QB in a ridiculously deep QB class though Tannehill obviously get the edge because he's actually playing and doing a fair job.

God forbid RG3 doesn't start the Skins will still be fine against the Browns provided Morris can continue to avoid the rookie wall and Garcon plays. Keep in mind Morris has played in 16 games this year with 10 or more carries and he was fighting for his life in camp. The fact that he's still going strong is an incredible feat.

As sweet as the turkey day victory and the blowout win over philly was, or the mnf fight with the giants was (my least favorite team) - that game yesterday stands alone. All the things you mentioned - as positive as i was remaining - it really seemed improbable at one point. Unreal pretty much sums that win up.

OK, then who else would start at CB?

Hall at 75% is better than any depth we have...and that's very sad to say.

Next year's to-do list: secondary, secondary, more secondary!

Maybe after yesterday, we can pull a Kolb for picks and starting CB-type trade with Kirk. :D

Arizona still needs a QB! We'll take Patrick Peterson.

I don't want Captain Kirk going anywhere anytime soon. Sure he might end up being the Ladell Betts of QB's but with the upcoming QB recession on the horizon I'm in no hurry to get rid of our prized backup save a ridiculous offer where a team overpays. I think until Griffin severely limits the running portion of his game the Skins will be using a 3rd or 4th round pick every couple of years on a QB.

A lot of people here just look at the media, or the record, or both and just say "Oh Cleveland has a bad record; typical Cleveland; we should win"

I'll say this again, I'm as nervous going into this game as I was with the panthers game...
At the beginning of the year I had us losing to the Ravens and beating the Browns. As the season has progressed I was worried about both games. Last week I flip flopped and had us beating the Ravens and losing to the Browns.

I hope I'm wrong. I hope the Skins beat the Browns. But as most have said I think it boils down to how healthy RG3 is. It will be interesting to see what Cousins will do with a full weeks practice with starters if RG3 can't start or they hold him a week to get healthy.

I think Cousins can make all the throws and is acturate as all get out but he obviously is slower then RG3 and tweeks will have to be made to accomidate that.

On the plus side there is very little film of Cousins and the Skins can employ a different looks that the Browns will have a tough time preparing for. Like I said as long as Morris continues to run well and Garcon is healthy the Skins can succeed on offense. It's obviously much harder without Griffin but if there was one game where we had to use Cousins this is the one I would pick.

I agree, this is a great game for it to be Cousins, if it has to be, and like others have said all these teams have been studying to play against Griffin's offense. There is very little to no film on Kirk running a full offense based on his skill set. I imagine the coaching staff has been well prepared for this and there may even be a second playbook that has been designed around Cousins. The Browns D is tough but they really have nothing to look at to game plan on if it is cousins. They will have to prepare as if RG3 is going to be healthy are else he will clown them if he plays, its hard to study up two QB's with Different styles for one game, so I say it's win win. Although I want Griff to come out healthy and strong.

Yeah, we have lots of work to do still. Browns are no pushover, they lost to some teams we beat (Philly, NYG, Cincinnatti, Baltimore), but they also beat Cincinnatti and Pittsburgh whom we lost to...gotta bring our A game on the road. If we stop Trent Richardson, and do enough to bother Weeden, we should be ok.

I'm more worried about the last game of the season though. Glad we are at home for that one.

This could be a wild division race, granted the Giants have to lose, but using the generator you can easily create scenarios where we are division winner, wild card, or out, all with reasonable W-L expectations for all the teams that are vying for the 2 wild card spots and our division.

Pretty exciting that one loss doesn't knock us out with 3 to play. vice versa kind of a bummer that 3 wins doesn't guarantee it either...

Whatever - good season, especially once Garcon got back.

Because I call Williams a bum and say that going 2-10 on 3rd down conversion isn't cutting it in the NFL doesn't mean I'm giving up on my team. It means I'm point out obvious things wrong that need to be corrected. Giving up on the team would be saying.............GAME OVER! THIS TEAM SUCKS AND WE ARE DOOMED.

You are trying to compare apples to oranges my friend.

Guess what? Williams is still a bum, and going 3-10 on 3rd down conversion (before Kirk came in) isn't going to cut it in the NFL. Having 394 (yards prior to KC) yards of offense with only 14 points to show for it says it's not a efficient offense.

When the Redskins went 4 or 5 wide for that 2 point conversion, I said to my Dad watching the game with me on the couch, "the last thing Baltimore would expect is a slow white boy QB sneak up the middle." What a great call by Kyle, totally unexpected by everyone, but me. :) Amazing game. Skins need to keep winning and now I'm cheering for the Packers to beat the Bears next week.

I think Morris' running and having a legit #1 WR will help Cousins if he starts. It makes sense to rest RG3. Maybe have RG3 active and bring him off the bench if Cousins is not working out?
Ok you got me i said game over on the Niles Paul fumbled KO return late in the game before i saw the replay on it and if the Ravens would have gotten the ball the game would have been over. Its not like i said it when in 3rd quarter on some random stupid play call or something.
Exactly when I said it. NC my panties arent in a bunch because you know what im not wearing my panties today. I never where my panties the day after a win. Its quite liberating. At one point very late in the game i said this aint over - not even close. Followed immediately by your comment about how "this shit is costing us the game - and they should get their heads out of their asses. ". Lol.
Yesterday the Rev gave up during the coin toss and your potty mouth was berating both sides of the ball throughout the entire game while you were thanking God you started Flaccp in your fantasy league. So i just think its ironic that you are the one today quoting and pointing out who gave up yesterday. Thats all.

Re: Ravens at Redskins Post Game Thread (RG3 MRI Result-Sprained Knee)

Gameday threads are always full of gameflow ups and downs. Hard to call anyone out right after an apparent game ending fumble. Seems like a What Happens in Gameday Threads Stays in Gameday Threads type situation.

All this seems so unreal sometimes. We haven't had a really good offense in so long it seemed like we never would. Same smashed hopes year after year. Now we have a QB who is nothing short of phenomenal and a backup who is probably better than most of the starters we've had in the last decade.
We know our offense can score at any time and win the game for us. Wait.....wow. How unbelievable is that? I'm so proud to be a Redskin fan. We have young depth on the oline...we'll be getting our injured guys on defense back next year...we just beat the Eagles-Cowgirls-Giants-Ravens on a 4 game winning streak...and we're in the playoff hunt. Morris is a beast..Young is a beast..Garcon..Morgan..it goes on and on and on.
I admire Joe Gibbs so much and I always will...but I gave him hell alot of times when he was here the first go round and he gave us 3 SB trophies. I never was a big fan of Shanahan and had huge doubts about him when he got here. Our defense is lacking big time and it needs to be addressed. But we're building something here. My God the last 4 weeks have been surreal compared to what I've been accustomed to. This year is the first year since I don't know when that we've made such a big step towards being the kind of team we've all been hoping for. It's not perfect..it never will be so I'll still bitch from time to time, especially until this defense gets better, but I have to say the Shanahans..Bruce Allen..even Snyder and many more have gotten us to a place I had begun to doubt we'd ever see again. Just wanted to get that off my chest.

That's why I don't waste my time in the Gameday threads, because I'd rather have uninterrupted time watching the game without any distractions.
