Re: Black Monday: NFL Coaches and Executives Carousel
So Kelly annouced he took the job one day after the deadline for underclassmen to declare for the draft. 2013 NFL Draft: Record-breaking underclassman crop dominates again - CBSSports.com
Not sure if this impacts any Oregon players but you think Kelly could have timed it a bit better. |
they had some great qbs in that era, household names, really:
brad otton kyle wachholtz john fox mike van raaphorst
Oh man, now you're just bringing up my entire undergrad nightmare lol. Hey, Otton won us a Rose Bowl during that terrible 2 qb offense. And even Tom Brady wouldn't win under Paul Hackett. |
Re: Black Monday: NFL Coaches and Executives Carousel
Just was reading over on my favorite Love-To-Hate-Them Eagles forum. They are NOT enamored of this hire. LOLOL.
Damn I came here hoping this wasn't true.... I guess it's official, the Eagles & the Skins have totally switched team philosophies... How long before Kelly is on our sidelines giving bubble guppy lips during a MNF loss?
Response:
Depends on when their first MNF game is.
One more (just for it's poetic lilt):
Hey so farg this right in the goat ass.
Just because you have luxury to do something, doesn't mean it's the best "moral" choice. It was a wise strategic move, but "inconsiderate" to the eagles and ducks. That was my only point.
All parties act the same so I don't blame him. If the Ducks decided to can him they would whenever they wanted and why would I care about the Eagles. |
Re: Black Monday: NFL Coaches and Executives Carousel
The Eagle's fan in JR's quote said exactly what I was thinking, between their big name signings, handling of Reid at the end, and now signing Spurr... Kelly. They may lay claim to the basement for the next several years! (i can only hope)

Re: Black Monday: NFL Coaches and Executives Carousel
Eagles defense is loaded with bad, overrated players, many with bloated contracts. Kelly may put together a better offense, but their defense is garbage. The funny thing is they have major problems on the Oline and the QB as well and thats where Kelly will be expected to improve the team immediately. So he will be pressured right away for results on offense, so let's see it Chip. I personally dont believe he can, but if he is this must of a genius results should show right away.

Yeah, from a business standpoint, he played it perfectly. I am just more of a "let your yes mean yes and your no mean no" type person. i dont think i'd feel right doing what he did - but of course, I don't have the talents to ever be in that situation so who knows what i'd do lol. |

lol |
If you mean hes a genius at being a charlatan, youre right. None of the QBs you mentioned are particularly impressive either, but thats just me. Saying everywhere he goes is a success is also ridiculous.... winning a college bowl game - lol... if thats an important accomplishment, then that would make about 500 guys out there qualified to be head coaches in your opinion.
He has a 1 in 8 chance of winning every year. Jim Zorn would probably win it a few times, too. The fact that he's done so twice is not remotely meaningful in the context of being an NFL head coach. Thanks to Lovie Smith, the Bears are already a great football team. I expect them to start out fairly hot, just like Zorn did when taking over for Gibbs. Within a year or two, the Lovie-effect will wear off, the Bears will decline, and Trestman will be out.
You dont think Kosar, Plummer, and Gannon were impressive qb's. ? Ok fine, Scott Mitchell certainly isnt but look at what he did when Trestman was there. Its night and day. Look at what all of them did when Trestman was in town. its not important about your opinion of the qb's overall success but your opinion of how the quarterbacks played while he was there. You cant deny those numbers, wins, and career years under his watch. Bears offense will be explosive next year - watch. As for bowl games - its NC State. They arent exactly a great team, but while he was there they had one of their better years. Not sure why you think its ridiculous to say everyehere he has gone hes had success? His footprints are all over winning teams in three different leagues even if one was the CFL. He shows up and its instant offense. The proof is in the pudding. Show me somewhere his offense didnt light it up as an OC or somewhere his qb didnt do the same while he was a QB coach? |
I think Trestman is one of the better offensive minds pro football has seen in the last three decades. It's a shame he's never got his opportunity to be a HC. I'm rooting for him big time.
Im with you all the way. I hope this guy is a huge success, except when he plays the Skins of course. |
Re: Black Monday: NFL Coaches and Executives Carousel
Eagles are either going to implode or start a new set of trends for offense in the NFL.

Raheem Morris will interview for Browns DC job tomorrow

Generally college coaches that don't have any NFL experience. Don't work |
Raheem Morris will interview for Browns DC job tomorrow
Hey SS, is Haslett here next year? Any rumblings from FO about Morris interviewing? Does anybody think Morris got credit for the defensive turn around the second half? Somethings changed where we played better D and it was noticeable in the secondary...I think you have to give some credit there, Id like Morris to hang around, even more so than Haslett at this point. |
Re: Black Monday: NFL Coaches and Executives Carousel
Haslett probably stays. Think Rah definitely deserves credit. I don't think Cleveland will be his only interview
|
Re: Black Monday: NFL Coaches and Executives Carousel
Yeah Rah seem to def turn it up and had the guys playing well.
Im glad Eagles didnt get Bruce Arians...Cards gonna get a solid coach. Surprised Zim in Cincy doesnt get interviews... |

Re: Black Monday: NFL Coaches and Executives Carousel
I already forgot Marc Trestmann was hired today with Chip Kelly pulling a reverse Nick Saban ("I'm not gonna coach there I'm gonna coach here; nevermind I'm gonna coach there") and Manti either being an evil lying mormon or another ''catfish'' victim.

After my wife saw the story she told me about Catfish. I now watch that and should probably mention that in the silly tv shows you get hooked on thread. Of course i may be making this whole story about my wife up? In all seriousness the Manti story trumps absolutely every other bit of news ive heard today, in recent history, and quite possibly ever as far as being out there. |
That's sad. I thought that he did an ok job for us.
I never really paid his contributions or lack there of any mind, but Other than Moss and Garcon who was our good wr? They were both established before he got here or before they came here. I cant think of somebody who raised their game under his tutelage. Hank? Robinson? |
Re: Black Monday: NFL Coaches and Executives Carousel
I thought all of our WRs did a good job this year.
|
Well Garcon and Moss have always done a good job. Hank has been a semi dissapointment imo. Just thinking - who is that guy that came on out of nowhere or somewhere for that matter under Ikes watch?
Edit: not that i put too much stock in a wr coach, but at the end of the day im not worried that he is gone. |
Re: Black Monday: NFL Coaches and Executives Carousel
Hank still has a lot of work to do, but remember he didn't play much in his rookie year and had no offseason due to the lockout, then he got hurt at the end of the year. He had 38-543-3 this year basically as the #4 option.
|
Re: Black Monday: NFL Coaches and Executives Carousel
I thought all of our WRs did a good job this year.
i agree
if garcon can stay healthy, i see a much better season for him. he has flashed that great play making ability, and his wheels are very impressive. i mean to say i expected more from him this year. everyone else performed on par w my expectations, except santana, he really raised his game when given the opportunity. |
