What a tool Wise is. Jesus. It's almost Baylessesque at this point. Was he always such a sanctimonious pile of crap?

Mike Wise has quickly turned himself into one of the most hated people in the DC area to Redskin fans. I no longer bother reading his redskin related columns.

What's up with Wise and his obsession with the team changing it's name? Where was he like 5 years ago on this issue? Seems that he's just hopping on board to make a name for himself. I agree he's columns are pretty useless these days.

These days? Like his radio show, his columns have been terrible from the start, and have never had much quality to their substance. The guy is a hack, and needs to either move elsewhere or find a new career.

I've always thought he wasn't any great shakes. But I don't have a lot of respect for the more Rick Reilly-esque columnists in sports these days. Never loved that type of content. Wise really isn't very good even at that and more than anything he is annoying. Maybe he's angling for a call from Bristol. He'd fit right in with their band of nitwit misfits. Maybe he can sit next to Smith and Bayless in the morning and spout misguided opinions no one wants to hear.

And several other teams did the same damn thing, just to a lesser degree. The Skins and Cowboys were made examples of. They should have punished all the teams that dumped cap.

The entire thing just stinks.

And Wise is still a troll.

There is nothing valid about it.

Is it "valid" to say say to a rape victim "you shouldn't have dressed that way since you knew it might cause you problems"?

It's actually valid to say "they knew that other owners would be mad about breaking the, totally dishonest and illegal, verbal agreement". That's not the same as "getting themselves in this mess"

That's what I was thinking too. At one point he says we used a "forbidden" tactic, but no one on either side has said that any specific tactic was forbidden, and in fact it is a legal and valid maneuver in all capped years, so unless it was agreed on in the CBA that outlined the do's and don'ts of the uncapped year, and was agreed to by both the owners and players, then the assumption has to be it was a valid move. And the fact that the contracts were approved by the league validates it all the more. His points were regurgitated garbage. The only "valid" thing is that the Skins would have had to gone nuclear to get any fair settlement, and that just shouldn't have been.

I think we all know the NFL owners colluded during that uncapped year. Bill Polian even acknowledged that it was put out that they were not to do anything egregious that would upset the competitive balance within the league. Illegal? Sure. When you are a thief yourself, you unfortunately have to play by the other thieves rules.

While some teams may have tread that same water, I think it's apparent that no team was more obvious about it than the Cowboys and Redskins. I think the reason Jerry Jones got hammered as well is because he single handily caused the franchise tag price (on WRs) to go up that following season and a reason the CHargers didn't tag VJ.

Well, even crooked organizations expects honesty within their ranks. If something is agreed upon by the majority, you either do it or you get punished. They decided not to adhere to the illegal collusion, and it bit them in the ass. Make no mistake about it, the NFL is a collection of shady billionaires doing shady things so they can make more and more money. They lie, they cheat, and they steal. We aren't innocent by no means, it just happens they got slapped for defying the rest of the league.

Also keep in mind that, if we hadnt dumped contracts and gotten hit with the cap penalty, we would have lost the cap space due to carrying those same contracts. Ultimately, due to the illegal collusion, we were screwed either way.

At this point, it really doesnt answer. We've been given a final answer.

There's actually one way we weren't screwed. If we were not punished for doing something legal then we'd be good to go. But yeah when the league decides to arbitrarily affect the balance of the playing field then we get screwed. That's what it comes down to.

And, if they had in fact said the contracts were invalid, then we would have been left with finding alternative solutions to reducing the cap hits of those contracts through other means, either in the uncapped or capped year. there is no way we would have been hit with all 36M in capped years.

SCRedskinsFan 03-18-2013 01:26 PM

Re: Good/Bad News for a Change - 2013 18MM cap penalty probably (not) going away

Well, the other dimension of this is that we did dump cap cost, whether legally or not. And the amount of cap we avoided is probably about the amount of the penalty.

Problem is we didn't get to do it on our schedule, and the timing was godawful. But that was obviously intentional, and we have Lurie, Mara and the committee to thank for that.

There is that chance that there were in fact cooler heads in that room, and we avoided losing draft picks, which might well have happened. And that could have cost us RG3...

We just gotta make lemonade out of lemons, do what we can with our own players (probably not a bad idea anyway), and beat the crap out of these bastards on the field like last year. Time to stop worrying about who we could have gotten and focus on what we have and what the draft will bring.

Gtothearry 03-18-2013 01:57 PM

Yep, time to move on. The league screwed us by approving what they deemed as bogus contracts. We all know it but there isn't anything that can be done.

We've took our lashings & we now decide how to best treat our wounds.

Re: Good/Bad News for a Change - 2013 18MM cap penalty probably (not) going away

Some of you guys are weenies.

"oh we deserved to get punished"
"we dumped cap"
"we must have done something wrong"
"there was an agreement"

A bunch of pansies! DS is an idiot for not going "nuclear" when he had leverage. I'll bet Goodell was behind the scene's "look don't hold up free agency cause we are thinking of lowering the penalty" then after FA, "F U we are not lowering anything".

What we know:

The NFL colluded (broke the law)
Two teams showed they had character by not breaking the law
The suspect owners were jealous of the two teams
Punishment was issued for not breaking the law
The whole scenario is immoral
And to simply "move past this" fans are "oh we need to move on."

I'll never move on from this blatant disregard of rules, laws, and out right immoral act of a punishment. The league approved the contracts. Period. They had a duty to deny any contracts that didn't fall within their guide lines. So why didn't they?

I don't want to hear the BS about they would have been found to have been colluding BS. The league should not be able to have it both ways and eat their cake too. You either deny the contracts and hope not to get caught or you approve the contracts and look the other way. This is completely immoral to and borderline illegal to approve the contracts to not get caught, look the other way for a year, then come out with a BS story about how the two teams should be punished. If the two teams right now handed in those contracts do you think the league would have approved them and waited a year to punish? Hell no they would deny them and tell the two teams to redo the contracts.

The Skins did nothing wrong and got punished for not breaking the law. <that my friends are what we are teaching our kids today.
