It's about time another team gets burned on a big contract. :D They signed him for 5yr/$30mil in 2011.

I remember a lot of us wanting him on the Skins, including myself.

They also released Mike Patterson, a solid DT for them when healthy. Wonder if that brain surgery he had finished off his career?
If I remember right, Jenkins was actually supposed to sign with Redskins. His agent and Redskins FO had a contract agreement, but then at last min Jenkins and his agent spurred and demanded for more money so Redskins FO decided not to sign him.
Brady is smart. He wants to get his money ($9 mil a year ain't shabby) but doesn't want to wreck his team's salary cap. He obviously likes winning as much as he likes money.
Pretty damn unselfish thing to do. On the open market, even in his late 30's, Brady would command a lot more than 9 mil a year. I know he's made a lot of money, and has a very wealthy wife, but I don't ever remember any professional athlete doing this. I know I probably wouldn't do it. I think he likes winning more than the money.

I'm a Rex Ryan fan. I think he's a hell of a coach who may need a new team, because he's not winning with Mark sanchez.

Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.

Rex Ryan is ok. I personally think he lacks some leadership skills but he did take the Jets to two straight AFC championship games. However if they miss the playoffs again, its on him and he deserves to be fired. Even if they fired him this past year I would not have had a problem with it but he deserves it if he cannot reach the playoffs next year.

RR is not an innovator either offensively or defensively. When it comes to X's and O's, please tell me where his creativity lies, 'cause I don't see it.

I grant you that, for a short time, he can get the maximum effort and talent from his players. As such, he will always have some initial success whether as a coach or DC b/c he knows how to motivate players in the short term. He will never be, IMHO, a coach who achieves long term success in any one place because, ultimately, his style is to let the inmates run the asylum while he poses as the head inmate. Ultimately, this degenerates into the clown car "crisis of leadership" confessions we have seen in Jets' land these last two years ("I didn't guage the lockerroom well", "I have ignored the offense"). In my book, he is all style and little substance. And, quite frankly, I don't particularly like his style - but that's just a personal opinion.

At this point, given the public persona he has cultivated, I would have a hard time viewing him as anything other than a clown. If my team needs a shot in the arm, I might give him a couple years as DC - but I just think he, like his brother, is more trouble than he's worth.

Good way to put it. Style over substance and great at motivating players in the short term instead of having the ability to sustain long term success.

With the cap penalty I don't know if that would be true. This year this will hurt more than it did last year.

We really need to get guys restructured and signed. I am very weary as to how this roster will look coming out of training camp.

I like Ryan too actually. Thought he did a good job his first two years and I think a lot of the problems with that team had a lot to do with poor personnel decisions. Ryan has made his share of mistakes too, but I think the problems with that organization go way beyond him. Getting rid of Mike Tannenbaum was a good step in fixing those problems.

RR is a very good DC. As head coach, though, he's mediocre. As far as I'm concerned he is a living example of the Peter Principle.

Rex Ryan is a good coach, he just instills no discipline on his team. He's allowed it to become a circus much like Wade Phillips did in Dallas.

I like it for the Chiefs too. They now have a legit starting QB and I'd bet Reid will take a project QB to develop in the mid rounds while Smith holds things down for a couple of seasons.

Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.

Alex Smith is not a good fit for Andy Reid. He likes to chuck it around and not protect his QB. Smith is the definition of a game manager, not someone who's going to sling it around 40 times a game. Reid is going to have to adjust his ways if this is going to work.

Maybe this is exactly the type of QB Reid needs to win. Smith is atheletic with a solid arm. He seems like he would fix good in a west style offense. I would draft Jamal Charles in the top 10 next

@Jimmy_Beast: If KC's 2 to SF accurate, here are the Niners' picks: 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7. Also projected to get 4, 7, 7 comp picks. Unreal.

Wow I'd love to know how to build up a draft that well and have a great team and have a good amount of cap space

If you build up the drafts that well, then you will have a great team that can manage the cap. When you can get possibly 15 picks in what is considered a deep draft, that can keep your cap in check for 4 years if you are decent at drafting. And San Fran has been really good in the draft.

Reports are that the 49ers are going to make a run at revis with all those picks.

Skinzman 02-27-2013 02:02 PM

Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.

Jets would be smart to target some of those mid round picks. Seems like with the talent not being the best at the top but this draft having good depth through the mid rounds, they can get some cheaper talent to help them.

Where are the 9ers at with cap space? He is set to make 15mil this year and wants a Mario Williams contract. Are the niners really willing to do that and can they?
Reports are that the 49ers are going to make a run at revis with all those picks.
I'm not sure why anyone would want to put up w/ Revis. He just seems like a major pain in the ass. Every year he wants his contract re-done. He wants to be paid over 10 mil a year. I'm not sure any corner is worth that kind of money, especially one coming off an major knee injury. I don't put him up there with Darrell Green, Deion or Mel Blount in their primes.

If SF has the cap space then it looks like a good move for them. They have the extra picks to unload and the Jets need young players.

skinsfaninok 02-27-2013 03:39 PM

Jets should keep revis IMO but I bet they end up trading him

That Guy 02-27-2013 03:39 PM

SF doesn't need revis. their D is great and that money would be MUCH better spent on offensive talent.
