Washington Football Team
Completely neutral and not offensive. Except in seasons like the last one when one could argue if they´re really playing football. |
Re: Redskins Trademark cancelled
Just call them Washington. Or do you have to have an actual name after that? I have to say I honestly wouldn't be upset with Braves. Could still keep the Native American imagery too, not to mention it was the original name.

As soon as the Redskins change their name, Oneida will turn their attention to the Chiefs, Braves, Indians, Blackhawks, etc. We're just the first shoe to drop. The NCAI has a 30 plus page paper on their website calling for the end of ALL Native American team names and mascots. It's become trendy to hate on the Redskins, so momentum is on their side. |
Re: Redskins Trademark cancelled
Definitely. I was laughing hard at a Chiefs fan who was upset they were going after their name. I believe Pro Football Talk made a post a few weeks ago about it. Didn't mind the Redskins being attacked, but went on a piss and moan fest when it hit home.

The comments section at the end of that article was hilarious. Almost everyone thought it was a major overreach. I think they learned their lesson and will stick to the Redskins for now. Going after the Braves, Chiefs, etc. right now would cause a major backlash. Danny might want to make this a broader issue and call for the other Teams with NI names to take the plunge with him and refuse to do so until they do. Public sentiment would quickly shift back. |

It's very offensive to call a NA "chief" unless they are actually a Chief of a tribe. The point with the Indians (Cleveland) is their logo. The Braves have the tomahawk chant that is not very well received by the NA nation from what I hear, and there has been issues against the Blackhawks. It doesn't have to be anything associated with race to be considered offensive. |
Re: Redskins Trademark cancelled
This is truly getting rediculous with immense stupidity on the horizon.

Most of the Native Americans who are offended by the word Redskin are also offended by the use of any Native American imagery or words being used as team names or mascots. Those other teams will be going down soon after the Redskins change their name. |

Something tells me that Kansas City, with a stadium called arrowhead and its use of Indian imagery, is not named after a Chief Petty Officer. I could be wrong, but something tells me that I am not. Also, if you call an actual Indian Chief a Chief, Im sure they will take it as a sign of respect. But there is no Indian Chief associated with the Kansas City Chiefs. Im also not sure why you are trying to convince me of this. Im not the one lobbying Congress and had successfully lobbied the NCAA in the past about it. If Indians arent against these names, then why did the NCAA ban the use if Indian mascots at their request? Why is Stanford no longer called the Indians but are now called the Cardinals? Why did Florida State be required to get the consent of a Seminole Indian tribe and then have to go through a hearing with the NCAA to keep the name? The Indians against the use of Redskins are against any and all Indian imagery used as mascots or any other for profit situation for that matter and call them all demeaning and racist. You have to ask them why, not me. |

Yeah. I've heard some Chief fans say that their name doesn't have to refer to Native Americans, but when you have a tomahawk symbol on your helmet and a stadium called "Arrowhead", that usually points to Native American imagery.
Also, if you call an actual Indian Chief a Chief, Im sure they will take it as a sign of respect. But there is no Indian Chief associated with the Kansas City Chiefs.
LOL! Offer a piece of the pie to the Native Americans who are coming out against these names and imagery, and you'll probably have a much different story. Just like the guy who's suing the Cleveland Indians for $2 billion. He's not asking for the betterment of "racial equality"...he's asking to become an instant multi-billinonare. |
