Redskins have been eyeing Hackett for a couple of years now
The secondary didn't get abysmally bad until Raheem showed up. Don't get me wrong the entire defense was bad but the secondary stood out as the worst of the worst as soon as Morris starting "coaching" them.
Agreed. There were far too many games this year where the d-backs completely screwed their assignments, leaving defenders wide open (and I mean wide open by 5 yards or more). I'm sure talent has some place in that, but I'm equally sure Coaching (or lack thereof) had its rightful place in the blame as well. Time to start fresh...I feel good about it. |

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
I agree with the sentiment that we lack talent on the back end of our defense, but there were issues out there that were beyond being a talent issue. Players constantly not in the right position or knowing who they cover. That is on coaching. From what some of the twitter peeps said, Raheem relied on Dhall way too much to do a lot of the "coaching" and putting the secondary in the positions they need to be.
Brady is the number one reason the Patriots have had sustained success. Not BB. End of discussion. Matt Cassel was fortunate to play for an 18-1 team that was coming off one of the best seasons ever. That was still a very strong team. See what happened to Cassel once he left NE?
No offense, but the majority of Patriot fans would call you an idiot for such a statement. |
Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
For the extraordinary success the Patriots have had, I think it is beyond reasonable debate that both Brady and Belichick have been critical. Brady had been clutch for years, often with very little talent around him. And Belichick can get average guys to play better than expected. Period. Most teams that are perennial contenders have a great QB and an excellent coach. They surely do. B

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
With the departure of Morris & Hazlett, and the addition of McCloughan, it just seems to me that BA's Tampa Mafia is being disassembled. It seems that the coaching staff and personnel units are getting a makeover.
If Gruden felt more comfortable with Barry b/c he knew him and felt he was a grinder. Okay, not holding the TBay connection against him. It appears that Gruden did his due diligence in looking into Fangio and other established DC's. Obviously, still not thinking we are doing any massive turnaround in one year (or even two), but encouraged that they seem to be broadening their horizons. Really, McCloughan and Callahan are two major positives ... if they add A. Highsmith after the draft to replace Scott Campbell, well, that's some serious offseason winning. Check back in five years, however, to see if DS stays committed to the slow build. |

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
If we are so devoid of talent, should we expect a large roster turnover next season?
If we are so devoid of talent, should we expect a large roster turnover next season?
Well, we gotta have someone to play the games. I would expect a large turnover. Hard to say though. |

If I remember correctly, we had a pretty big turnover when Shanny came to town. Though I don't remember if it happened right away or not. |
Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
Redskins hired ex-Giants DC Perry Fewell as DBs coach.
Fewell was also a candidate for the 49ers' defensive-backs job. Fewell has been coordinating defenses or coaching defensive backs in the NFL since 1998. He's a nice addition to DC Joe Barry's staff, especially since Barry himself was such an underwhelming hire per rotoworld nice hire imo. really nice |

Yes. It's normal. If I recall, the big purge came in year 2 of Shanny's regime. Lots of players who had been around since Gibbs 2.0 and the Zorn years. |

Just like we tell Giants fans Morris is trash. So we now have a recycling program. |
Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
Callahan and fewell are strong position coach hires. Looking for that QB coach next...things are looking up so far this offseason. If we can add the front office dude from Green Bay too, wow, I'm pretty happy then.

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
No Bucs connection to Fewell either for the crony lovers.

It's nice to have 2 DC's on staff that help each other (Barry/Fewell) unlike (Haslett/Morris).
|
Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
Yeah, I wasn't in the meeting rooms or the like, but it did seem that Haz and Morris were not the best of mixes. I have nothing but rumor and speculation to go on but just not sure the two complemented each other well.

Well, no IMMEDIATE Bucs connection. In 2005, he coached DB's in Chicago under head coach Lovie Smith From 1996 - 2000, Lovie Smith was LB coach while Rod Marinelli was DL coach under DC Monte Kiffin IN TAMPA!! Further: Rod Marinelli is John Barry's father-in-law. AND Marinelli was DL Coach while JON Gruden was Head Coach of (wait for it) ..... TAMPA BAY!!! Clearly, Fewell was hired b/c of his connections to Gruden and Barry, not b/c he coached a SB winning defense. Rank cronyism at its worst. |

I agree, I also like both of those hires. Sounds like Highsmith is staying in GB., they won't grant him permission to interview. Seems like a guy they don't want to lose. It does feel like things are trending up. Very curious to see how the draft plays out. |

According to twitterverse, Haz wanted to fire Raheem but that was a no-go with Bruce. Probably gives credibility to Jsteelze saying that Raheem was calling some of the defense last year. |
