cant expect much from yahoo sports, they are fairly hot garbage in terms of sports journalism.
I mean, anyone who watched the cowturds know they have major issues at every area on the field.
I agree he is a bum, but I do not disagree with him. I don't think we are in the same class as Seattle or AZ. We are one more year away from being a legitimate challenger. I' sure we all agree Dallas is one injury away from being the NFC East dumpster fire.
It does blow my mind that no matter how poorly Dallas plays, they are always in the conversation to win the NFC East and to go on to the Super Bowl. Provided, had the 'skins gotten past GB in the playoffs, maybe people would start recognizing them as a legitimate threat, but it still makes me laugh. Nobody else can use the excuse of injuries for a bad season, but if it's Dallas, "Oh, Dez was hurt, Romo was hurt...." That's two players from a 53-man roster! Provided, Romo and Dez are two of the best on their team, but still, the Cowturds could go 0-16 next year and they'll still say Dallas is the best in the NFC East. |

Re: Better days ahead. (Off season part 1 thread)
My plan for better days ahead.....
DEF-- o draft and/or sign a ILB o draft and/or sign a CB/NB o keep Hatcher and Knighton o draft DL (take advantage of the quality depth of DL in this draft) o draft an edge rusher o draft a S |
Re: Better days ahead. (Off season part 1 thread)
i'm not sure i'd keep hatcher or knighton. i guess it depends on what we're looking at in FA/the draft.

I think losing them creates a hole we cant currently fill. We can hope the players we acquire via draft/FA are as good or better but i would rather add to them as opposed trying to replace their production. |

I am sure I would not keep Hatcher or Knighton. You can save about 10 million dollars if they retire/leave. The draft is very deep at defensive line. And they could sign a free agent NT that is not 50lbs overweight . |

Agree. I really like Hatcher, but he is too old. The "want to" is still there but at his age and with his injury history, he can't recover from the beating he takes in a single week. He noticeably wears down over a season. Hatcher has an 8.7m cap hit next year and a 4.2m cap savings if cut. His body isn't going to be able to recover any better being another year older. We need to cut ties and spend the money on youth. Knighton was out of shape the entire season. He couldn't stay in for 2 plays in a row and be 100% effective. His play did pick up toward the last 3 or 4 games but he was a non-factor most of the year. We shouldn't extend a guy who stayed so out of shape in his "prove it" year. Being 50 pounds overweight is really about self control. He would have been so much better hovering around the 350 mark. The performance through 2015 didn't warrant bringing him back at anywhere near his 4m contract. For the folk(s) that want to bring them back, what kind of contract numbers are you talking about? |

https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2016/02/09/pro-top-10-safeties-about-to-hit-free-agency/
Thanks for posting the article. There are a lot of talented players on that list. I could envision the Skins picking up one of them on a cap-friendly short term contract. If they do, I'd prefer someone who also plays ST. |
Re: Better days ahead. (Off season part 1 thread)
The Bears have informed Matt Forte that they will not be offering him a contract. Some NFL GM's have said they think his next contract will be in the $4MM/Yr. range. If he can be signed to a cap-friendly contract, I think he might be a very good fit for the Skins. I would expect him to share the workload with Jones.
|
Re: Better days ahead. (Off season part 1 thread)
I like Forte, I just don't see him coming here. RB is just not a money spot any more. If we were one RB away, yes, I would be open to spending some cap space for him. Right now, better to draft and develop a RB who fits.

But what about their production? How do you replace the holes created by letting your best run stopper and best pass rushing DL walk? Seems like digging a hole, only to turn around and have to fill a hole. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk |

With Knighton, the hole is dug b/c he is a free agent. Just a matter if we bring him or someone else back.

It's more of an eyeball test. So I guess his performance is in the eye of the evaluator, kind of like PFF or Cooley's film breakdown. Knighton won't be back except on the cheap. Too fat, too out of shape, and largely ineffective with the occasional flash in the pan. The best pass rushing D lineman was Big Swaggy Chris Baker, and it wasn't even close. I think Knighton is getting a worse rap then his play warrants. His production at 4mil seems fair to me. Now if we could land Ian Willliams or Damon Harrison for the same money, I'm all for it. |

Per nfltraderumors.com:
"Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk writes that the prospect looms of the Rams possibly signing QB Robert Griffin III once the Redskins cut him loose in the coming weeks." Wouldn't that be a kick in the teeth? The final indignity of that unfortunate trade. "John Keim of ESPN writes that Redskins GM Scot McCloughan will remain consistent with his approach towards the team’s roster this offseason. According to Keim, the Redskins want to get younger on their defensive line and find another inside linebacker. Washington could use more depth at cornerback, safety, running back and tight end." Finding D-Line help in this draft should be easy. This draft is as loaded as I can remember with good D-line prospects. I think we can get two good D-line prospects if we want two of them. At ILB, one of Jaylon Smith, Reggie Ragland, Kentrell Brothers and Scooby Wright should be available to us. I think we could probably find good players at CB, WR, RB, and TE in this draft, as well. |

as far as rgiii, whatever. he's not helping us, so where he goes really doesn't matter.
i think our best DL next year may be the guy that's been sitting on IR all season. that's a valid hatcher replacement. knighton looked like just a guy to me. he wasn't terrible, but he didn't really prove he's worth big money either. we'll probably draft a guy and see who's available in FA (which might be knighton on another cheap contract if there's no real value elsewhere). as for the draft, i'm not sure you can say that scot is 100% bpa. he seems to hit needs, but i guess when you're terrible everything is a need. he does seem to know what he's doing (mild understatement). |

Good eye on Robert! Reminds me of Justin Tuck. Trent is country strong and he's a good tackler with some pass rush moves but I wonder if he can carry the weight he'd need to put on to play DE. If so, I think he could be part of a D-Line rotation. |
Re: Better days ahead. (Off season part 1 thread)
Per nfltraderumors.com:
"Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that the Redskins and QB Kirk Cousins were 'nowhere near' an agreement on a long-term extension at the conclusion of the Senior Bowl a few weeks ago. According to La Canfora, this could lead to the Redskins using their franchise tag on Cousins in the coming weeks, barring major progress towards an agreement. Recent reports have said that Cousins will likely end up with a blockbuster contract when all is said and done. However, it could require them to franchise Cousins at the cost of $19 million or so in order to buy some additional time to work out a long-term deal. Bengals QB Andy Dalton‘s six-year, $96 million deal has come up as a potential starting point for the two sides in contract talks." No surprise here. Andy Dalton's contract is only the 18th largest QB contract in the league, as measured by $$ per year. Dalton's guaranteed money is quite low compared to his peers at 17% of the total contract amount (Aaron Rodgers is guaranteed 49% of his total contract amount). I don't think the $19MM tag looms over the contract talks at all because nearly 20 NFL QB's are currently being paid an average amount of $17MM or more annually. Kirk is going to cost a whole lot of money but that is normal for someone like Kirk who I think is among the top two-thirds of NFL QB's in ability. As we all know, the devil is in the details and that's going to take some time for the two parties to work out. |

Seriously. You would think with the success we had last year (albeit small, but still above where everyone thought we would be) people would just forget about it. Who care where he goes, as long as he's not wasting a roster spot here? And of course as long as he doesn't go to a rival and somehow figure it out of course, as unlikely as that might be. But the Rams? Really who cares. |

I'd be happy to forget about it as long as Dan Snyder would forget about making such a risky trade ever again. I would also appreciate it if Snyder would resist the urge to pay some fat, lazy, entitled, attitude case $100MM ever again. I'm not too bitter.
