The only reason his picks the past 2 games havent been backbreakers is pure frickin luck. I cannot believe your reasoning, you cannot possibly be being objective about Kirk.If he was playing for another team I do not believe you guys would think Kirk was that great. Going back to my comparison with Hoyer.Hoyer threw for 400 yards yesterday with 2 tds and no picks.Hoyer and Cousins career stats are very similar.Cousins has slightly higher td percentage but Hoyer has lower int percentage.Plus Hoyer played for freaking Cleveland. Am I saying I would rather have Hoyer then Cousins,no I'm not but that's probably because I'm a skins fan,I'm a Cousins fan,and therefore I am not looking at it objectively. Can you imagine Brian Hoyer making 17 million a yr and being considered a franchise qb? I can't either but yet we are thinking that about Kirk. If that guy doesnt fumble the int do you still think we win that game? Last week when Cleveland rb fumbled{and from what I read Cleveland actually recovered and it was a blown call, lucky again}do you think we win that game if we dont get that fumble? I dont think we would have won either game. Just because we won both games does not give Kirk a free pass:rant: But I can see from your post we are not going to agree on this subject,l just hope Kirk's luck will continue in the future when he throws more backbreaking ints:laughing- HTTR
He didn't throw into triple coverage though. He threw it to Reed because he read a cover 2 she'll and had Reed on a post which was the right read. Mosley made a great play and jumped a mile into the air to catch it. Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
]I think a lot of us have developed certain expectations from Kirk given his performance and output during the second half of the season last year. Hence the reaction and criticism.
That being said, I will admit that this goes beyond Kirk. The coaching staff needs to figure out how to deal with these 3rd and short situations. Having the defense perform better, should take some of the pressure form Kirk and the passing game. Now we need to get the running game and these short-yardage situations handled.
I think that's fair. But we still have a long way to go one the schedule. And I would also say that we've got a tougher schedule this year as well. He may be a better QB than last year but may not have better numbers. |

Well you can't just say no defense. They've been giving up yards and all but they have been taking the ball away and giving it back to the offense. And yesterday the defense was outstanding. But again, I think KC is a better than Hoyer. No argument there. But I just don't think we're talking about a huge difference between the two. I look at the Texans and they flipped out cause Hoyer shit the bed during that playoff loss. They panicked, completely overpaid for an unknown guy. Can you say that Brock is really that much better than Hoyer? I just don't see that much of a difference. |

I would stick with Cousins. The chances of finding an average quaterback in free agency or the draft is extremely low. We should know.

Hoyer is not a Redskin...lol Cousins is the best qb we have had in a looooong time, brad johnson had a great year. Rg-3 had a great year. However, all things considered- age, scheme fit, etc - Cousins is our best qb in years. I am not sure how the hell Brian Hoyer has anything to do with anything ? Check out their numbers from just last year......Cousins is top ten but just scroll way down for Hoyers numbers..... I agree. I said that this would be the first "real" winning team, and barring the wind, he played a solid game and we won. That argument is now gone. Thank goodness. As for the end of the year stats, I would take those numbers in a heartbeat. |

Cousins can only improve, but i do believe we 100% know what we have with him on a "typical day" - that is at least one interception a game, and at his worst moments, 2 or 3 INTS in a game. But he also throws a lot of touchdowns too. Maybe a poor man's Brett Favre? |

Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
Kirk has one multiple INT game this year. One. Last year he didn't have one single game with more than 2. It's time to move on from this thought that he's an INT machine. Plenty of the top guys around the league will throw 1 or 2 here and there.
|
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
Meh, he isnt a finished product yet. Give him the rest of the season. I think you need to figure out what the other options are. I agree that 20 million of your roster to 1 guy is a big mistake, if he isn't damn good. Joe Flacco, drops mic.

Rodgers threw 2 last night in his win over the Giants. Definite turnover machine. Packers should move on already. |

KC isn't an elite QB but he isn't middle of the pack either. he will get around $20mil next year. IMO KC is the best redskins QB since Brad Johnson. Becareful of what you wish for; We might be able to get Jeff George v2.0(Cutler) on the cheap next year. |

It was a cover 2 shell. Watch the play again, look up cover 2 shell, and look up how to exploit it. Shit, you can even see it in the highlights because it's so obvious. The deep safety was Atleast 6 yards from Reed. The LB watched Kirks eyes and made a good play. Kirk could of put a little more air on it for a completion or hit the shallow cross coming across the field. You really need to research before you start saying shit like triple coverage.
Biggest issue with this philosophy is assuming Scot is going to spend 18 million on free agency for defense. He's been very adamant about building in the draft. You won't be spending 19 million on a few draft picks. Kirk fits the offense, runs it efficiently to win. You are not going to have a rookie or Colt McCoy run your offense while you try to build the defense. Especially when you have a guy who is winning games now while the defense is poor at best. You try to win games now in the NFL. There is no "rebuilding" anymore. Also, I woukd like to add. Please stop referencing it as 19 million dollar contract. The contract doesn't matter. The only thing that does matter is how much cap percentage is used on the QB position on the Redskins roster. Scot most likely won't spend more then 12% of our cap on the QB, since that is the league avg. Biggest issue with the defense is we have only spent a third of our cap on it. A third of that is on the Dline. Scot will build through the draft. It's not coincidence they are not signing Phil Taylor or Pot Roast after workout today's and giving Loannidis 65% of the snaps against the Ravens. They want to see what they got. |

And after going back and watching the play several times the 2 Ravens were not as close to him as I first thought, the trailing defender was about 6 yards away but the defender in front of Reed I thought would have been there to either int or knock it away if the pass would have made it past the lb. They need to give Kelley more touches, mix it up. On Joneses defense, I believe the ravens were ranked number 1 against the run. |

A lot of assuming going on here.. How about Letting Cousins play out the year that will determine his value. If he wants to much we move on. if he plays average then give him average pay if he won't sign let somebody else overpay for him. question for all the great football minds out there..would anybody have traded cousins for bradford before season???

I don't think so. If Colt was our QB Sunday we don't win that game. He could not have thrown the ball 5 yards past the line in that wind. |

How's that working for the Giants? How's that working for Jacksonville? How's that working for Miami? For the most part, free agency brings in individuals, it doesn't bring you a team. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
The big flaw in thinking free agency can help you, is people assume good players make it to free agency. Every now and then they do, due to various strange circumstances. Norman and DeSean Jackson were both examples.
But that's not common. Olivier Vernon was the best DE to make it to free agency this year. He had 7.5 sacks last year. That's not a good player. Free agency should never be viewed as part of the plan. Your plan has to be building through the draft. And if you get lucky in free agency and a player comes available, then keep your cap in a good place so that you can pounce on the opportunity. You use it as a way to be opportunistic and build out depth, you can't use it to build a foundation. |

Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
Cousins isn't playing really bad right now but hes not playing lights out either.

At this point I would rather have a stout D and above average QB ..maybe a solid Run game. We have very good wr's,good O line, great TE,good special teams..what we need is up front Dline help and chasing another QB is not gonna get us that. |
