What's he got left at this point?

As long as he doesn't take reps away from Crowder, I'm down with having more depth even if it's super old depth. Grant hasn't really progressed...

Re: Redskins Free Agency 2016

Boldin had 69 receptions despite mediocre QB play....great blocker, tough red zone receiver.... He would be a good addition for a year or two..... if the price is right

FWIW Knighton is visiting the Redskins tomorrow. The odds the visit involves a scale is 99.9%

Interesting...Im an Bolden fan and wouldn't mind signing him, but I don't like it if the corresponding move is too cut Garcon.

boldin was never a speed guy, so he can probably still be pretty good. he catches, blocks, runs hard. huge upgrade over roberts (who i think is still alive, somewhere in space and time). AB is a bit more than just a guy, and would be a decent 1 year rental.

Hell yea!
Boldin is built like a brick shit house.
I'd take him for a short term contract.
I agree, although it was hard to tell, Knighton was in dress clothes .... lets see what he looks like in a t shirt
It looked to me like he dropped 25-30 pounds. I guess we'll know more tomorrow.

I don't know why Boldin would want to come here, he seems like a guy that should go to a contender. Maybe he's got no other offers. I wouldn't mind having him, but he wouldn't take reps from Garcon or D.Jax and I don't like the idea of him taking reps from Crowder. I love him as a person but don't see a good fit here.

Hey why not... he'll probably be back with another one year deal at $4 or $5 mill or something. Dropping 30lbs is a good sign that Knighton wants to be here.

If Our defense can improve and we can take that next step in the running game...we will be contenders.

Why the hell not. Bolden would be a great piece...winner and veteran leader. He flat out performs everywhere he has been.

So you don't think we could be a contender? I think we need to adjust how we see ourselves. We emerged from that dark place last season. Who else doesn't think of us as a contender?

I agree with this. Are we a contender yet? Not in my opinion. Is it capable? Absolutely, but at minimum we need another strong draft this year.

Re: Redskins Free Agency 2016

Would love Boldin, but not at the expense of Garcon or at anything more than a mid-level UFA cost. I know PG is expensive and at times disappears, but he and DJax are a solid combo, throw in Crowder and the various skillsets create an array of problems for D's.

Schneed10 03-30-2016 01:17 PM

Re: Redskins Free Agency 2016

Not even mid level. I wouldn't pay Boldin more than $2M for one season. Maybe not even that.

Hard nosed guy but he'd be our #4. I'm not paying too much for a #4, especially since we still might draft a WR. Boldin's not an answer for succession planning for Garcon & Jackson.

I won't like this signing if it costs more than $2M.

Garcon and Boldin are pretty much the same player, except Garcon still has some quicks.

Does Boldin play ST? A WR3 or 4 probably has to play teams as well. Would be odd seeing him out there.

----------------------------------

After visiting with the Washington Redskins on Wednesday, nose tackle Terrance Knighton is leaning toward accepting an offer with the New England Patriots, according to a person familiar with the situation.

It was nice of Pot Roast to come back to us and, im guessing, give us the right to match/beat the NE offer. SM seems to get this gentlemen agreement of "check in with us before you sign anything" more than I remember in the past.

Dropping 20-30 pounds isn't a huge improvement; he needs to double it. If he was 340-350 he would be so much more effective.

His market value might be so low that he might be hard to pass on. That being said, I'm still not sold.

Having a replacement who could play 2 full plays or, dare to dream, 3 in a row at full speed would affect the entire DL rotation over the course of a game.

Less snaps = more rest = more pass rush down the stretch.

Everyone, most importantly the starters, would be fresher when the 4th quarter rolls around.

Vernon Davis has signed with the Redskins

no details yet

Chico23231 03-31-2016 12:07 PM

Re: Redskins Free Agency 2016

Gotta think this is insurance for Niles Paul...Davis hasn't been very good the last 2 years. We had major issues with TE injuries last year, this coming season we shouldn't.

Irrefutable 03-31-2016 12:11 PM

Re: Redskins Free Agency 2016

They will keep at least 3 TEs. I do not think Carrier has not recovered.....9-12 month rehab

Schneed10 03-31-2016 12:13 PM

Re: Redskins Free Agency 2016

Davis is a half decent blocker. Also with no more FB on the roster we're likely to go with 4 TEs.

Hope it was a low cost deal. I think you're right Chico, probably insurance. And McCloughan thinking I know this guy, if I can get him to bounce back to a shell of his former self then I've got something.

Niles should be our clear #2 though if he can manage to rebuild his strength he lost following the injury. He's exactly the kind of attitude player you like to see on the roster. And he can block and uncover in the passing game. He can also do a little H back.

Good point, I totally forgot about him, LOL

Not even sure he would make the roster even if fully recovered.

Chico23231 03-31-2016 12:22 PM

Re: Redskins Free Agency 2016

The running game effing sucked from not enough TE blocking and tells with Compton comin in the game. Pauleson, Davis and hopefully Niles should give us much better blocking on the edge.

My thinking behind the Bolden interest was Redzone target/RB blocking.

well, the boldin thing might be what cooley was talking about. if you want to keep reed, cousins, and jackson, maybe you save 6m this year and put it towards those deals.

Love the Vernon addition. Speed TE that can block. Davis could add a whole new dimension to the offense if Jay-McVay go that route.
