But seriously, I actually like this signing. If we're going to give Crowder more reps, he can be the slot guy.

He hasn't lived to his potential, let's see what the Redskins can do with him. Could be a sleeper pick.

I cant find it online...but this is a quality, depth signing who seems like insurance for Doctson. Quick is coming off his best season last year who should knock Grant from the rotation. Really like this pick up.

It's just too early to give up on Jones. The game before he was benched he looked pretty good. He's had some really good games for us. Just needs to clean up the fumbling issue and look like he wants to be out of the field. But I think you're right, the staff is probably done with him now that SM is gone.

Marshall looked like he was scared to hit the hole hard in pre season, and just wanted to break everything outside. I was not impressed with him at all.

Well, we signed them not only to fill holes but to lift the unit to be better than last year.

But, Ricky Jean is gone, Trent Murphy is suspended and is better at OLB, and we missed out on Bennie Logan.

Folks, that's a massive hole. We need to draft a DL 1 or 2nd round. No question about it.

I'm sure that's the plan for the draft, DL. From what we've seen in FA they have signed 2 DL, it will carry to the draft.

Manusky clearly said they were going to build the defense mainly via draft. This draft apparently has plenty of talented DLs, so yeah, they'll draft at least one DL .

Yeah, I think Lanier could really develop. Interesting to note that Doug Williams was behind his signing.

He's still young (will be 24) and at 6'6", 280 he ran a 4.7 sec 40. He got some playing time last year, before going on IR, so I'm sure he's been able to slow things down in his mind now and will be even better next year.

Maybe not a starter, but definitely should help as much or more as any 8-10 yr old re-tread. I'd also put him ahead of most rookie DE's, so I wouldn't waste #17 on a highly rated DE, especially if they're light in the ass (under 260 lbs).

I really don't think we'll be that bad at DE as others do. It isn't all about sacks. Our D-line first and foremost needs to Stop the Run.

Our OLB's are good, especially if we get Gallete back and/or Preston steps up, along with Kerrigan, we should generate enough pass rush to contend.

Well, we definitely got taller at WR for this season...

Pryor 6'4, Quick 6'4 & Doctson 6'2.

Crowder (5'8) is gonna look like the only smurf out there.

Hard to assess his catch rate, but it's a warning sign for sure. He had bad QB's throwing to him - Goff/Keenum. Here's an example of a badly thrown pass, not sure if it would count as missed catch or bad pass. Anyway, hope we didn't spend much on a backup WR with gaping holes in our D-line.

It's really hard to plan to address a specific position in the draft, I'd prefer trying to fix in FA as much as possible first. For example, even if we want to draft DL, if great talent drops to us -- ie. if a top RB (Cook) or top LB (Foster) --- we may skip DL for a few rounds, and be stuck again picking up scraps for DL. Somewhat like Leonard Williams, I'm sorry no matter what anyone says, getting a probowl OG is NOT the same thing as a top tier DT, shoudn't have passed it up and may have been a need pick at the time.

That is at least partly a function of terrible QB play.

In our offense, with our line, the other targets around him, and with Cousins at the helm, Quick can be the exact same player as last year and his % caught will go up dramatically.

My thing is that the only way Quick does much of anything for us is if Doctson isn't healthy. And that would be bad news overall.

Still, another big body. I can see Quick being an asset in the red zone if we spread out 4 or 5 wide. That is an obvious focus this offseason.

Not a terrible group, but really hinges on the development of Doctson. If he can get on and stay on the field then I don't think we lose a lot from the Garcon/Jackson.

Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings

Remember, Quick played with some terrible quarterbacks with the Rams, so having Cousins throwing the ball to him should really make Quick look a lot better. I think the Redskins signed him to push Josh Doctson. Love that the Redskins have size at wide receiver. Who knows? They may wind up drafting another receiver as well.

Agree with all of this.

Quick is a big guy with good speed. Yes, he hasn't lived up to 'potential' yet, but he's played with some of the WORST QBs in the league. He's a bit of a gamble, but his up-side is way higher than the amount the Skins paid for him. If he can catch well thrown balls, I believe he can be a big part of the offense for very little down side.

i've heard Lanier is up to 290 now and all is moving very well . . . i thin he could not only become a starter, but a stud at DE . . . though i think it will take a couple of years for him to get to that status

Between Pryor and Quick, anyone else think we're going to see a lot of that fade route we all loved so much last season? I guess they're focused on curing our red zone problems, which is a good thing. Doctson, Pryor, Quick and Reed all at once -- hard to cover that kind of elevation potential.

I don't mind looking at the bright side, but if he's Rod Gardner 2.0 it will reflect poorly on us. Still I believe the players around him will allow him every opportunity to excel.

I wouldn't say we NEED a rb. Sure it would be nice to have a legit work horse.

But run blocking wasn't great last year.

I'd be fine with improving that and letting Kelley, CT, Brown and Jones (if he fixed his fumbling issue) compete and share the work load.

We'll get a good RB after the first round. Check out Samaje Perine (OK). He's 233 lbs. and extremely hard to tackle. Or, Jeremy McNicols (Boise St.). Does everything well and is noted for his pass protection. We might even get Joe Mixon (OK). He is spectacular both running and receiving.

Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings

I think we really need an impact player in the middle of our defense. Nobody brings to mind the word impact like Reuben Foster. Check out his highlights. They are UFB, particulary his hits on ST kick coverage. He could possibly fall to #17 where he would be a steal.

Haason Reddick might also be a good pick at #17. We might even be able to trade down and still get him.

I would say we absolutely need a rb.

Best case scenario for the upcoming draft is the first 2 picks spent in the front 7 of the defense. And then we go Running Back in the 3rd round. Hopefully grab an interior o lineman with one of the picks in the 4th round.

Listening to 980 (Cooley and others), we NEED a RB badly based on Kelly's performance last year. Kelly missed cuts and while getting positive yards, always left blocked yards on the field.

EARTHQUAKE2689 03-25-2017 10:59 AM

Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings

I say we definitely need a RB, where we draft one is another story. There are a few there that could contribute early and often. You got the pipedream of Fournette, the more realistic dream of Cook and then you have McCaffery, Kamura, Mixon, there are talented RBs to be had, and I do want to see if Keith Marshall can contribute as well.

We have so many WR's, like we did last season..
So many holes to fill on defense, and the DT's that we signed are not great. Swearinger played on a top defense with a top defensive coach. I am not convinced they will make much of a difference.
If we use our top two picks on a RB or O Lineman we will have to suffer through another season of watching our defense not be able to get off the field. We will be home in January.....again.
