Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
I have lived in Houston before Watson was drafted, I have had a chance to see Watson play more than most on this site.
I have seen him play in person at NRG stadium and on TV. I have met him and he is a very nice guy, a good guy and a great teamate. Not a headcase Watson is a very talented QB, but he is not an instant plug and play superstar. He has some work to do in his game. He is not a Mahomes or Aaron Roger that is ready to be tops in the NFL. Watson holds on to the ball to long. He improvises too much and needs to be more disciplined. To be fair, with some good coaching and work to break him of his bad habits, he is not far from being great. But IMO he is not there yet. I would not sell the farm to get a Qb that has holes in his game. |
Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
Sorry, just a general nitpick here. But some of you guys do realize that the Sunday Ticket and RedZone channel have been around for years now right? Living in a certain area doesn't really carry the weight that it used to for being an expert on the home team LOL. Sorry, rant over on that. No disrespect intended.
What makes Watson so enticing is that he's a top talent who's only getting better, and he's only 25. Guys like that just don't become available very often. That's why the price is going to be high. Personally I think the way he's forcing his way out is a bit of a red flag that shouldn't be brushed aside. |
I think the Jets will ultimately land him, they have the most ammo and Darnold who is still young. I'd offer the next 2 first and Sweat for him today tho
Watson has a say on where he goes. He is not going to a rebuilding team like the Jets, where he has to compete with Josh Allen and the Bills for a playoff spot. |

Unlike TW and KC, Watson has legit grievances against his team. Houston is super dysfunctional, and we of all fan bases should know dysfunction when we see it. I don't blame him for wanting out of Houston. |
Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
Chase young is going to be a reason we land some free agents ... also Ron is a huge plus .. think many would want to come here with past situations.. I’m on fence about Watson .. he great but talk of 2-3 first round and a top player ... man that’s a lot ! Stafford for this years number one makes more sense to me ...

If he's smart he would steer clear of Washington then. Yes with Ron we're not the hot mess we were before he got here, but that can change very quickly. |

Yeah, this isn't like it's the 70's, 80's, or early 90's. The advent and growth of the internet, social media, sports being shoved down our throats 24 hours a day/7 days a week, and, of course, NFL Sunday Ticket and Red Zone has eliminated being from a specific area carrying weight to people from that specific area or region being more knowledgeable of a particular team. It's only relevant if a person doesn't focus on any teams other than their own or something similar. I told a friend a few days ago that I'm now leery of Watson due to his "tail wagging the dog" scenario. I'm not sure I wanna go that route. I also don't wanna give up the farm to get him. I somewhat agree with 'Defensewins,' re: Watson has a tendency to hold onto the ball too long. He's a heckuva talent, but the propensity to hold onto the ball increases his chances for unnecessary sacks and hits. It's slightly nitpicking as his pros certainly outweighs his cons, but it's still something to keep an eye on. |
Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
If we come away from this off-season with a known top talent qb who, *cringing in fear* barring injury , leads this team for the next 5 -7 years then this will have been a successful off-season. If we don't, then no matter how many picks we avoided giving up, it will be a wasted off-season.
No matter what the cost, in draft or salary cap this year, having a qb that has the talent and wins games, is worth it. Sure I want the FO to be smart, if the asking price is 2 1st rounders, don't offer 4. |
Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
The question is this...what is Dan Snyder telling the FO today about Watson?
What’s Mr.Snyder input? |

I can’t imagine it’s much better at NYJ over Houston and here. Miami might be his best bet plus he save on taxes and it’s nice and warm and you get a cute little mammal on your helmet. |

WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
I’d trade:
2021 : First 2022: First, Third 2023: First, Third Allen To get Watson That’s a pretty good package Plan B: See if we can trade up to get a QB in the draft Plan C: Go for Stafford 2021: First & Third Plan D: Go for Tua from Miami Sign Heinicke Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
This is an honest curiosity question. I don't even know if it is possible, but what about trading 19 for Tua which miami can add to their trade for Watson.

Send me your trade offers...now
The #19 overall pick this year and that's it. Why? Because we don't have the draft capital to compete with everybody else, and I sure as fuck don't want to lose 1 or 2 gold chip players on our roster in addition to 1 or 2 first rounders it will take to get him. He should have thought about these things before signing a 4-year $156 million dollar contract. His contract isn't even 5 months old. Screw him. Screw OBJ. Screw all the players like them that take boatloads of cash from teams, which represents a long-term investment in them, and then show no loyalty in return. If Watson had reservations he shouldn't have signed the new contract. Now he has it, and the team is on the hook for huge guarantees and hoses cap without him, he wants out? Tough. He was happy to take that $27M signing bonus though. Sure he's going to refund that, right? Nope. Screw him. Even if Houston wants to, trading him hoses their cap massively. I'll believe Watson is some great guy when he talks about giving Houston their $27M signing bonus back. Guy like that won't be loyal to us either. Bottom line: if you have reservations about long term future with team, don't sign a fat new deal with them. Screw these turds that take the boatloads of money and then hose the team that gave it to them. I agree with your basic assessment that he isn't a honed pocket passer. He is another running QB who uses athleticism as substitute for learning to read Ds and become a superb passer. Eventually, he's going to take bad hits and get hurt, like all running QBs do, going back to at least Steve Young. You want a primary pocket passer who avoids most big hits, runs only as an absolute last resort, and has longevity. With what QBs cost, and with how rare a commodity a franchise QB is, you don't want your QB doubling as a running back, period. There are QBs just as good as any of the guys homers are talking about trading for, in the draft this year, you just have to commit to finding one. |

Miami isn't trading Tua for a single 1st round pick. Even if they would, he has major injury issues. You draft a franchise QB, you take the hard road which is the only way to long-term success. We just set the record giving up on Haskins in year two. Tua gets at least a second year in Miami. Can everyone please put the bongs down and stop it with the pipe-dream trades that would be dumb even if possible? |
Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
He's solid. He's never had a lot of talent around him. A decent WR, no RB, a decent RB, no WR, a decent TE here and there. He's put up solid numbers - better than Stafford since he's been in the league.
Put him on a team that has talent on offense, a great defense, and good coaching, and he can win.
I would say Carr is a bit above average, but hardly someone you trade for. He is rolling up on 30. Stafford has a more elite physical skill set, especially arm strength and better deep ball accuracy, but that doesn't mean I love either. |

Ridiculous hypotheticals are a waste of time. And honestly, I wouldn't trade for Stafford even for the #19 straight up because it is surrendering long-term value for a short-term stopgap. We know what we're getting, a very good but not great QB who is 33 next season, and has taken an absolute beating in Detroit, and has maybe 2-3 good years left, and it will take us 2 years minimum before we can be contender. I'd rather fill a long-term hole such as LT or CB or draft a QB we have for 5 years on a rookie deal, period. You accept we aren't close to being a contender. You continue building, including with rookie QB you draft, or two of them. You don't trade premium picks for players on the backside of their career. |

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
Texans have to trade Watson. But they don't to trade him until draft day, unless someone goes insane. They have a chance to at least be reasonably competitive in 2022 if they make a solid trade.
Random thought - They might as well trade Watt too. Not to us. But the idea of Kerrigan and Watt going to the same team would be awesome (AFC team). Just 2 older amazing NFL citizens going out in a blaze of glory together. Titans have a good team and trash pass rush. That is my random offseason dream (if Kerrigan doesn't want to come back at No. 3). |

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
You guys really think giving up #19 for a qb who needs serious development in the passing game jives with Riverboat Ron's "window is open to win now" gameplan?
That idea sounds bad on many levels. If anything Tua is worth less than a first rounder now because teams know how much work he needs. You don't think that whole "insert Fitzpatrick to create Fitzmagic" at the end of the games isn't a strike against Tua? |
Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
Thoughts on teams for Watson:
He’s not going to the Jets. 1. AFC team. 2. Unless Saleh is blowing a smoke stack out his ass, he’s been quoted numerous times praising and touting Darnold (something he isn’t obligated to do, he could be non-committal). He’s not going to the Jags. They are a lock to build around Lawrence. He’s not going to New Orleans. They are in cap hell. Current sitting $100m over the cap. He’s not going to the Patriots. Cam is no bargaining chip and I don’t see Bellicheck mortgaging the farm when he recently has been quoted saying their poor performance this year is a direct result of mortgaging past years to win Super Bowls. Chicago is off the table. Even as an NFC team, Mitch Trubiski is no trade bait, Robinson won’t be there and I don’t see Watson waiving his clause to go there. Pittsburgh is loyal and will reach a renegotiated extension with Roethlisburger. No dice. Denver could be an interested party, but again I don’t see Watson wanting to sign up to join the Bronco’s anemic offense. No one is talking about this, but Detroit could try and trade Stafford for Watson, but ultimately I think Watson would poopoo a trade to Motown. Raiders are a dark horse candidate because they could offer Carr and Gruden is crazy and might do anything. Atlanta, a deeper dark horse, could come out of no where and trade Matty Ice and boatloads of picks. But Demitrov was more of a gambler with trading away draft capital (ie trading up for Julio Jones) and it remains to be seen what Fontenot will want to do. Is Miami an option? AFC team. Media and fans are speculating but I have seen ZERO actual rumblings/insider tips stating that Miami is seriously discussing trading Tua for Watson. Colts are a contender, but an AFC team. And I really don’t see Watson waiving his no trade clause to go there, they don’t have a ton of star power. The Rams are a possibility, with Goff perhaps being on the block, good skill players and a dominant defense. Panthers could be a contender. NFC team. They could offer Bridgewater, but other than McCaffrey, I don’t see any strong reason for Watson to want to go there. 49ers are a strong contender. NFC team. They could offer Garoppolo, have good skill players on offense and Shan-wow runs a QB friendly offense. With all this said, I think there are a lot of teams that may be interested, but not a lot of teams Watson I want to go to. With a limited list of teams that A) Watson would be willing to be traded to OR B) are willing to give up Houston’s most likely gong to be asking, that leaves: the Washington Football team as the top prospect. Watson is pissed off with the good old boy mentality in Houston. WFT has the most diverse staff in the league. Check. Young core of talented up and coming players in both sides of the ball. Great offensive skills position players. Check. Dominant defense. Check. Tom’s of cap space. Check. Deshaun Watson. Come on down to our nation’s capitol. The football’s fine. |
