Are you pulling that money out of your homer Commanders Wallet?
I’ve seen enough of Sam to know he’s our future franchise QB. Yeah, he has an issue holding the ball, however he gets the job done. Like I said, time will tell. |
Re: The Sam Howell Thread
@Wash_PR
QB Sam Howell has thrown for 1,602 yards in his career, the most by a Washington quarterback through seven career games in franchise history. |
Re: The Sam Howell Thread
He's on pace for 4,250 this year which would be the 2nd highest single season total in team history
|
Re: The Sam Howell Thread
He's on pace for 4,250 this year which would be the 2nd highest single season total in team history
He is also on pace to be the all time leading sacked leader (96 sacks) beating the record held by David Carr (76) by 20 sacks. It also helps your yards passing number when you keep getting your ass sacked and your team is constantly behind so you have to throw the damn ball 50x and if you are down big then teams are easily going prevent D making it easier to pass short and mid range crap until you are in the Red Zone, see Bears game. IMHO, I think Sam will be a quality starter in this league for a handful of years but he is not the next super star by any means or a QB that can carry a team on his own to a SB. If we are staying on the Sam train we need to boost the O-line, maybe find a more explosive back and he needs a go to super star TE. |
Re: The Sam Howell Thread
Sam is still only 23 and hasn't had a full season. He is taking some lumps with the sacks but this is something he can no doubt improve on.
|
Re: The Sam Howell Thread
The fact that he is posting those numbers with the amount of sacks he is getting is even more telling … not all those sacks are on him .. we got only two Recievers (Terry and Curtis) that seem to get separation and really no big time TE … no running game that scares anybody.. so those numbers are pretty dang impressive.. imagine Sam behind a good OL with a top TE and a running game … he easy would be top 10 !

Howell stats very solid among other QBs |
The Sam Howell Thread
“With 109 yards through the air in the first half on Sunday, Howell became the passing yards leader in franchise history for the Commanders through seven starts, the team announced. “
4-3 as a starter on a team whose defense has underperformed for most of those starts and an absolutely sub par oline. Id definitely go to the prom with that mother fucker. This team has mad holes TE Run game Oline LB HC DC Our rookie quarterback (7 games, 6 with an actual offseason as the number 1) is definitely on the list of positives. It is mind numbing after decades of piss poor revolving door quarterback play that Sam is not a breath of fresh air to some people. |

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
The stats won't ever matter til we have a real team and real leadership that isn't still coaching a team in the early 2000s.
Praying for that for next year and keeping Sam to see what he and this team can be capable with some nice additions and a better staff. The wins are all that matters but even commenting on his "ceiling" is just baseless chatter of a disgruntled fan. Can't blame the frustration but will blame the finger pointing b/c it's in the wrong direction and way premature, like those prom plans that he prolly spent a week planning only to get shut down. Like I said, disgruntled 🤷 |

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
Nah I don't quit until it's mathematical man lol, think you're just missing or I wasn't clear enough in the way of this being directed at the previous Andy dalton ceiling comment. Less to do with this season but also including some thoughts on it.

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
I just hope Sam survives. Way too many sacks. There have been some good QBs who were drilled too often and never really recovered and had good careers or whose promising careers were cut short.

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
I'm not wearing rose tinted glasses when I say this; for the first time in years, early season form suggests QB is not our biggest problem. Hell, it might not be a problem at all. We have so many bigger problems, starting and almost ending with the coaching staff. OL, LB and TE are next. If those had been fixed in the offseason we might be as good as 5-1, if they get fixed this offseason we could be division favourites next year.

Howell stats very solid among other QBs
The filter on that web page was set to total yards , which again is skewed by the CHI game , when the Bears sat in prevent and Sam throw nearly 400 meaningless yards in a blow out. Click QBR he is ranked 20th which is probably about right , he is the 20th best QB out of 32. He is not bad but he is not anything special either to this point. Remember next year most likely a whole new coaching. Is that coaching staff really going to want to hook their wagon to SH? . |

Do you think there is a chance that in year two or three he could be top 10 like he is in completion percentage or yards? Or are those ratings by espn meaningless? Take a look at the roughly 30 different starting quarterbacks we have trotted out there over the last 20 years and see where they ranked in those categories over their first 7 games. The red rifle? Seriously? While QBR is a good metric, his passer rating is solid. His yards per attempt, tds are strong. Also, his run threat and off script abilities are in-line with todays QB prototype which meets the needs when facing a more athletic, faster defenses. This isn’t Andy Dalton standing tall in the pocket. He passes the eye test and I think EB offense is a fit for him. Let him grow and please get Oline in the offseason Don’t get mad when I call out some trolling and hatin |
Re: The Sam Howell Thread
Sam has plenty to like but the one thing he really needs to learn is an incomplete pass is much better than a sack. One of these days he will get injured off a sack and then he will learn the best ability is availability.
I like the kid but he's gotta work on those weaknesses. 3rd and 10 is much better than 3rd and 17. |

Just curious. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Exactly! I don't know what metric to use to determine he is going be great. At this point i say he has the opportunity to be a serviceable QB1 in this league. Now for him to get too say the impact starter level he needs to be faster on his reads and not take as many sacks. We have just been so statured with poor QB play over the last few decades that the first guy to complete a screen pass and we think we have Joe Montana II. To put in perspective I was way more excited about RGIII going into week 7 of his rookie year then i am of SH going into his week 7 of his "rookie" year. |

Nothing is certain M, and yes he could be a HOF’er or a bust. But if we are speculating based on someones first 7 games I am going to lean towards optimism not pessimism based on those things. Didn’t actually expect you to go look at the list of prior quarterbacks. You don’t have to. You know the quarterback situation here has been nothing short of lackluster since Joey T! That isn’t a physical trait that cannot be fixed like a noodle arm, or a guy who cannot move. Sam Howell is the equivalent of a ten dollar bill? Wow. |
