Anthony Lynn is the front runner for the OC Position per ESPNs Josina Anderson

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Lynn then joined the Jacksonville Jaguars as the running backs coach (2003–2004). He left Jacksonville after being switched to special teams coach following a coaching staff shakeup by head coach Jack Del Rio in 2005.[3]

On September 16, 2016, Lynn was promoted to assistant head coach and offensive coordinator of the Bills when Greg Roman was fired.[8][9] When asked what he wants his offensive identity to be, Lynn responded, "I want to play smart, physical football. I want to be explosive down the field... We're going to play a little bit faster and see if we can put a little pressure on the defense. Just execute."[10] Lynn made his debut as offensive coordinator against the Arizona Cardinals, pulling out a 33–18 win.[11]

Itd be interesting if he even wants the job .. but I guess he is interviewing

If I was a somewhat young coach I wouldnt want the job.

A 1 year placeholder job that you will probably be fired from next year when RR is not retained ... on a team with probably the lowest ranked QB room in the league .. with an aging OL

That of course could be the other factor in this. If Ron and co actually want Jimmy G then they may see hiring Lynne as the way to get him to come here. I wasn't all that bothered about having Lynne as OC up until this point but this makes me think I want them to avoid him just on the off chance that Jimmy G follows

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread

Perhaps the combo of Jimmy G + Lynn = bring some of that Kyle Shannahan scheme over with them

Im not going to get too bothered with whatever the team decides to do. Decent argument to trade up, decent argument to add a Jimmy G type, decent argument to roll with Sam

Whatever options they go .. we end up a game or two below .500 regardless

Lynn literally said (in 2016) that he wanted to play smart physical football; that he wants the offense to be explosive down the field...play a little bit faster and see if they can put a little pressure on the defense.

From that, where are we getting " conservative offense, run first approach, won't take deep shots " ?

Your probably right, I just dont want to saddle the next front office with cap hits and lack of picks from the get go because of QB chasing by the previous regime while not fixing obvious O line issues

With the exception of the 2021 season when he was with Detroit, he's contributed to offenses in LA and SF, that were all top 10 in yards per game since 2017. I didn't watch every one of those team's games, but if they weren't explosive, they were at the very least - effective. They had the ability to move the ball and score points. That's all we need with this current defense.

Yeah the only thing I know of Lynn would be the chargers offense during his HC tenure of 2017 to 2020 .. he had an elder Phillip Rivers

2016 - Bills OC - led league in running 50.93% runs
2017 to 2020 - Chargers HC - pass oriented, bottom 10/15 in league in run %
2021 - Lions OC - ran ball 41.9%, 13th lowest or so

Was 2016 a Shady mcCoy bills year?

------------------

Best indication I could hope for is a guy who schemes to his talents and roster

Little worried that he only lasted 1 yr in Detroit. Careers been going backwards.

2020 - HC
2021 - OC
2022 - RB coach

----------------------

Wed be lucky to get someone decent imo

This is not a good job to take. Wrong place, wrong time.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread

He was hired on as the assistant head coach for the 49ers, and then took the additional duty as running backs coach.

As far as the lion's, it's not uncommon for a new head coach to bring in his own staff.

He might be my favorite candidate as far as those who have interviewed so far. He has a mix of 'been there done that', some success in places he has been, and credibility.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread

I think Anthony Lynn is perfect. Let’s face it with BR and Gibson we should be a run heavy team. But he is definitely a well rounded Offensive guy. Has worked with run heavy and pass heavy teams. If, big if, GM Ron manages to rebuild the o line and Sam is as capable as I believe he is than Lynn would be a great choice.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread

I agree.

Let's also face the fact that we haven't gotten the best out of these two RBs yet. BRob in year two, not coming off being shot in the knee, should take a nice step forward. It could be a great tandem with him and AG, especially if we upgrade the O-line. He has a lot of experience coaching some pretty good RBs - names like Fred Taylor, Julius Jones, Jamal Lewis, LaDainian Tomlinson, LeSean McCoy, & Christian McCaffrey.

BRob has such potential man. Seriously like u said, imagine an Oline, not being shot in the knee in the off season, and an OC that understands what he had there? Dude could be the rushing leader. He was an absolute beast and that was with the injury, no oline , and Scott fucking Turner. Im super pumped about him going forward.

I want to draft a G, C, and T in the first five rounds.

Yup LB, CB, Oline - and ill take the quarterback from fresno - Heaner or Hall from BYU late as a project. But I really want Torrence the G from Florida in the first - we should be able to trade back several spots in the first to get him and pick up an extra pick. Dude is an absolute beast.

https://www.hogshaven.com/2023/2/1/23580941/the-statistical-reality-of-drafting-for-needs-in-the-nfl

Interesting analysis of what we can expect if the Commanders draft in area of need in the rounds and the probability based on historical trends of that pick being a year 1 starter. Focused on OT, Interior O-line, LB and CB

Based on position and 16th pick in 1st round the probability (converted to percent) we get a 1st year starter if we draft a:
OT: 57%
IOL: 75%
LB: 60%
CB: 67%

After first round the odds of finding a first year starter drop dramatically at the areas of need. Perhaps at that point best player regardless of depth, trade backs for more potential picks or even use them to fill needs at FA (with Rivera's track record that might not equal to starters either)

Not sure if you mean just his FA batting avg or draft as well. But according to us fans, Ron is a draft master.

2020
- drafted rookie DPOY
-drafted a top 5, 15 million per year safety in the 7th round!! woot woot
- drafted a 1k run yards RB in 3rd
- drafted depth DE in 7th

2021
- starting OL in 2nd round
- starting outside corner in 3rd
- one of the best blocking TE in the NFL in the 4th
- Interception safety machine in 5th
- 10 year long snapper in 6th
- not one but two depth DEs in the 7th

2022
- WR1 stud in first round
- Mathis is a ?? mark
- Beast of a running back in 3rd
- Second coming of Tom fucking Brady in the 5th round

I dont think we can bash Ron et al .. while praising all these draft "hits"

If youre a Howellian .. Ron is your Moses

yeah I was referring to FA hit. If we are looking at need and probability of a second rounder being a year 1 starter is less than 50% at our areas I would think a known commodity FA that is already a starter in the league should be greater than 50% hit rate at starting for us the following season and I would prefer to use the second as a BPA.

I read that Hog haven article yesterday .. I appreciate the work they put in to come up with their own formula

FA has been a mixed bag. I think Scweitzer/Leno/Lucas/Mccain/Thomas/Samuel have been good returns on investment ... those QB and WJ3 miss hurts

Idk .. I think things would have been different if we just found a functional QB. Now we need a functional QB and some OL replacements

I wouldn’t call depth homeruns. I wouldn’t even call starters homeruns because they might just be starting by default. If FA was better maybe they aren’t starting. And how do we know a guy is a ten year starter in year 3? Lol. That list is a little fugazi.

Harris was officially hired by the Titans on Tuesday, just weeks after NBC Sports Washington reported he'd either be heading to Tennessee as the club's defensive pass game coordinator/cornerbacks coach or to Chicago as the Bears' defensive coordinator.
https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/commanders/titans-officially-hire-ex-commanders-defensive-backs-coach-chris-harris

Still dont understand how/why RR let this happen .. and no media is touching on whether we could have blocked this.

Its a lateral move .. or does the NFL allow it not to be bc teams create these "assistant head coach" type labels that mean nothing

Was his contract up?

Does RR have an internal policy with his guys that he would never block them if they wanted to interview?

Jags just blocked the Ravens from interviewing their OC.

--------------------

I just need a fucking simple explanation and the DC media isnt covering whether we could have blocked or not.

^ Sounds like his title as a pass game coordinator is a step up from DB coach, so RR can't block it.

And maybe he wanted to leave, no sense in blocking someone who wants to move on.

The title sounds a bit better (even if it's the same responsibilities) and I'm sure the salary is at least $1.00 higher, so I'm assuming they can't block it.
