Sorry, but if we let Mike Shanahan go we're just setting ourselves up for more years of mediocrity. Kyle Shanahan on the other hand...

I don't think we have to get rid of Kyle S., but he does need to diversify up his offense and learn to attack opponents' weaknesses better. He just wants to pass all day, and even the best passing offenses know how valuable running the ball is. I hope we have the players next year that fit what Kyle S. wants to do, because right now it looks like injuries are really going to limit our effectiveness on offense for the rest of the year.

We are getting better. Last yr the Eagles scored 28 points in the first qtr and this year only 20 points the entire game.

We don't even try. Good ground attacks keep going back to the well. What doesn't work in the first quarter may produce a long touchdown in the 4th quarter when the defense is winded.

And it is not just the number of runs which lead me to say that we don't try. It is also the variety of plays. We have stretch left and stretch right. That seems to be about it, excluding a brilliant reverse on the second play of the game.

Kyle didn't have a real ground game in Houston, either, but they developed one after he left with much of the same personnel.

In the end, the run may or may not work. But trying to milk a passing game out of Wrecks and Beck has no chance.

Well the Texans added Arian Foster, that was the major change. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure the Texans didn't attempt to run the ball last year any more than when KS was the OC in 2009

Playing Cooley at FB twice in the same set of downs tells me Kyle is innovative and a risk taker.
However sometimes its a fine line between being innovative and being an idiot.

Not sure why playing Cooley at FB was such a big deal. He played H-back under Gibbs and had similar responsibilities.

While our D is now decent (maybe even good) after a horrible year last season, we still spent money and draft picks to fix something that wasnt broken. Bottom line Kyle was totally outcoached by George Edwards yesterday. People can talk about Kyle's days in Houston all they want. I really don't care what he did in Houston. He's here now and his offense has been awful and it was down right atrocious yesterday.

My biggest beef with Mike Shanahan is that I don’t know where he adds value. He doesn’t call offensive or defensive plays and he doesn’t seem to have the team prepared to play consistently. If hes leaving everything up the assistant coaches that’s fine, but at what point does he step in?

On the defense there's plenty of camaraderie and these guys are definitely fighting to win. Haslett is a great motivator IMHO. His scheme is suspect part of the time, but I will go on record Haslett has exceeded my expectations.

So, I'm disappointed in the Shanahans and pretty damn impressed with Haslett. Very curious to know what ya'll are thinking...so discuss!

PS I think Mike's history as a returning 2X championship HC has to be taken into account when assessing his performance here. I definitely expected him to come in with a solid plan of action and have the offense, especially the QB situation, moving in a better direction by now.[/quote]


I agree. Mike Shanahan supposedly knows quarterbacks. He's coached the best. Steve Young, John Elway, Jake Plummer, and Jay Cutler. Grossman is only in Washington because he played for Kyle in Houston. Beck is here because Mike Shanahan liked him since his days at BYU. But it's clear as crystal that Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan are going to have to draft a quarterback in April. I would like to see them select Landry Jones. If they can somehow get Andrew Luck, which I doubt they will, then Landry Jones is the next best thing. Jones is certainly more capable than either Grossman or Beck.

Ugh, again with running the ball...

What is it that convinces people that 'pounding the rock' is the solution to all our offensive problems? Do people still seriously believe that these are the Hogs of 1982? That all they have to do is run the ball 55 times a game regardless of the in-game circumstances? They can't pass block [U]and[/U] they can't run block.

Keep this in mind: Before taking Trent Williams, this team hadn't selected an offensive lineman in the first two rounds of the draft since Chris Samuels [B]12 years ago.[/B] Kyle wasn't the one who neglected the line for a dozen seasons. And Shanahan and Allen haven't had enough drafts or draft picks to rectify it.

I'll never understand why the coaches are the ultimate demons in this nightmare.
