We need about $5M for the draft alone.
$4-5M is generally the cap space needed for all teams for the draft. |
Re: Redskins 2013 Salary Cap Status
Even with no first rounder?

Nice link... we're the only team with a Signing bonus allocation less than year one allocation. |

Yes but it's also for post-draft and inseason moves (ie unsigned free agents, guys go on IR, etc.). |
Re: Redskins 2013 Salary Cap Status
I am thinking that not having a first round pick means you need a much smaller rookie pool.

It stands to reason... |
Re: Redskins 2013 Salary Cap Status
i'd be shocked if we needed more than 4mill for rookies. they'll all basically be vet min deals. only the 2nd round guy is going to get any kind of money, and he's a late pick at that.
plus any of the late rounders that don't make it out of camp disappear. yay for non-guaranteed contracts. |

They would then estimate one to two trades up just to have some wiggle room. They would then evaluate the roster for people they think could be reasonably likely to end up on IR and budget for that. Between that and 8 practice squad guys you are looking at 4-5 mil which put him at his figure of 8.5-9 mil in space. |

Teams with high first round picks need to keep $4-5.5 million on hand. Our rookie class almost drops our salary figure. |

you mean IR rookie draftees that don't get injury settlements, which is likely 1 guy that wouldn't even be in the top 51 anyways. i didn't talk about trades, I said for our DRAFT CLASS. our 2nd round pick will be about 35 maybe? on the top 51, the rest probably don't even register. |
Re: Redskins 2013 Salary Cap Status
You still only have to the cap space once you actually sign them right? It's not like draft day the NFL docks you xMil for rookie pool
|
You still only have to the cap space once you actually sign them right? It's not like draft day the NFL docks you xMil for rookie pool
Effectively yes, because they just dock you league minimum per player drafted until they sign.
So if you had less than 51 players under contract, draft day could put you over the cap, in theory. |
