Sorry, but I can't see how anybody in their right minds would be making excuses for the oil companies. They are making profits hand over fist. I don't care what the reason is for the increased gasoline and other fuel prices, it's ridiculous and needs to end.
But its not the oil companies' faults. If you want to blindly blame something blame opec. At least most of the oil companies are American businesses, dont you want American businesses to make money? If there were more and smaller oil companies and their profit dollars (not margins) were smaller would that take away any blame you would place on oil companies? |

I'm not just blindly blaming the oil companies. I realize it all starts with OPEC and these stupid speculators that are running up the costs of oil out of fear. But let's not be stupid or naive, oil companies here in America are also making nifty profits. Don't just throw out the "Don't you want American businesses to make money" card. There is a huge difference in this situation. The difference is that this country lives and dies on oil for fuel. Everything hinges on this. Everything. And because these fuel prices have gotten out of hand in such a short amount of time, AMERICAN companies have either had to raise prices sky high on their products, or have gone out of business. It's one thing if the price of oil had naturally risen over a decade or so. I understand that inflation will eventually force all price tags to go higher, but you're talking a way dramatic increase in prices in a short amount of time. Maybe you're well off, making six figures a year or come from a wealthy family; but in the real world, with real people who are struggling to get by, the rising prices of oil is detrimental to those people's livelihood. |

My son just sent me a text and told me to fill up. He says its going to jump up by .30 by noon tomorrow.

I absolutely agree that this county lives and dies on oil and everything hinges on it. But as demand and use of oil grows oil companies are bound to make more profits, I don’t understand why they should be vilified for that when I don’t think they share any of the blame. Its not their faults demand for oil is high and continues to grow and supply isn’t infinite. I am not well off and make nowhere near 6 figures a year, nor do I come from a wealthy or well off family in the least. Re: F... gas prices
Kroger by Regency Mall in the West End. You get 3 cents off w/ your Kroger card plus more if you have fuel pionts built up. I never have enough fuel points built up so this was the standard price for anyone w a kroger card.
But i do live in the Richmond City SS and theres an Exxon by my house for 3.01, which is pretty good for a name brand station. Also i think winter blends are susposed to be cheaper beacuse they have more additives and you get worse mileage. |
Re: F... gas prices
$3.08 out here.
|
Re: F... gas prices
Wow just look at the past post on this thread and see how much gas has jumped and how quick. I paid $3.97 today. The gas prices will change how I use my boat this summer.

Re: F... gas prices
Up to $4.00 even for 87 octane here...$4.25ish for high octane.

In 2006, 73 percent of Democrats believed the Bush administration could reduce gas prices. Today, just 33 percent of Democrats believe there is anything President Obama can do about them. That’s a 40 point swing. (To be sure some Republicans have also flip-flopped on this, but only by an 18 point swing.) Obama doesn't set gas prices. Wall Street does. |
Re: F... gas prices
Sure, you're absolutely right. Blocking the Keystone pipeline, banning off-shore drilling by Domestic companies after a foreign company had an accident and generally not allowing us to explore ANY of our own options like oil shale have no effect on gas prices.
Besides, it's YOUR fault. The President said so. President Obama Blames You for High Gas Prices |

Its tough to nail down, but my personal belief is Wall Street and the Oil companys, they are in bed together. Guaranty the 5 major oil companies will be in the top 10 of highest profits of the year as well in the quarters. They always do..........what does that tell everybody? |

Re: F... gas prices
I think I've just grown numb to gas prices.
Exactly; it is what it is. What sucks is I will still fill my tank but I will just have to adjust my budget and normally that means taking dollars from my entertainment budget. So I will have my gas and the gas kings will have their money but the local pizza shop I always get pizza from on Friday nights might be out my $12 a week, those are the guys that get really burned. |
Re: F... gas prices
While it totally pisses me off, I can't imagine actually changing my driving habits until it gets something like 8-9 dollars a gallon (God forbid). I mean when I break it down, I miss the days of a $10 fill-up, but I don't do enough driving to get upset when I pay an extra $10-$20 per fill-up.
It sucks, and I hate it, but I think a lot of us are creatures of habit and might not be willing to change. |
Re: F... gas prices
I have changed my habits already, I work at least once per week from home and i'm going to start doing that twice a week if the prices get up to the level of the projections. It's not even the money so much as the idea of only using what you need. Got rid of my truck, bought a much more fuel efficient car... every little bit helps til they figure out how to make H work.

Re: F... gas prices
Also, having lived in western europe for most of my 20's, let me just say that we still have no ****ing clue what high gas prices truly are.
